online magazine for TEXTILES, CLOTHING, LEATHER AND TECHNOLOGY ISSN 2535-0447ABSTRACT:
Leathers differ from other materials in dyeing or printing due to their diverse structure. The dyeing

process results in a monochromatic background, while the printing processes can reproduce multicolored
patterns on the face of the material using different printing techniques. The printing of patterns, symbols
and ornaments on materials is a form of decoration that is more common in the textile industry than in
the leather industry. Modern printing technologies offer fast printing on leather and other materials with
different structure and color, which stimulates designers to develop their graphic designs for prints and
patterns digitally.

The aim of the present work is to study and analyze the methods and techniques for printing and
decoration on leather.

The interaction of dyes or printing inks with the protein substances of the skin tissue and the hair cover
is a complex process. The reasons are due to the different structure and properties of the printing inks and the
different application of the main component of the dyed material - collagen and keratin, depending on the
pre-treatment of the leather, tanning and finishing processes.

Printing on leather can be done by screen printing, transfer, inkjet, digital and other types of printing.
The special ink, developed for leather, made it possible to apply high-quality, multi-colored motifs. The
requirement is to use dyed smooth leather, as a transparent cover layer is applied to prevent the paint from
being erased by sealing the ink layer.

Key words: leather, printing techniques, inks, decoration techniques

Given the impact COVID-19 has had across the globe, ANDTEX organizer E.J. Krause & Associates has decided
it’s in the best interest of all participants to reschedule the in-person event to a new date October 27 – 29,
2021 after consulting with the Thai authority, industry associations and key stakeholders. The rescheduled
event will still take place at BITEC in Bangkok, Thailand.
“Foreigners who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 will be welcomed with open arms by Thailand through
a new campaign set to launch in Q3 2021” as proposed by the president of the Tourism Council of Thailand to
the government recently. The new October dates of ANDTEX 2021 fits perfectly in Q4.
The pandemic has obviously made business very difficult for all of us. To help you gain more customers and
marketing opportunities, we will hold a virtual ANDTEX event in June this year. Exhibitors will be provided with
a free virtual booth. More details will come in the next few weeks.
For all exhibitors, participation will automatically be transferred to the October dates in 2021. We will be
working closely with you to provide all the necessary support for the change. Please follow the show website
for updates: www.andtex.com
COVID-19 pandemic has striking impacts on most industries. But many sectors in the nonwoven industry
remain strong. To support nonwoven industry players gain more customers and marketing opportunities, we
have added an ANDTEX Virtual event on June 2 - 4, will be invited to visit the virtual event. Exhibitors, buyers,
speakers and attendees will meet with each other digitally before the in-person ANDTEX event takes place in
October. More info the next weeks!

ALIAS ART - „Just fashion is not enough… „

ALIAS ART

DEVAN LAUNCHES NEW RANGE OF BIO FRAGRANCESFOR TEXTILES

Textile innovator Devan is launching a new range of bio-based fragrances, named SceNTL®. The range uses traceable
raw materials and an external lab has confirmed that the bio-content of the fragrances is above 85%.
The range consists of Natural Lavender, Menthol, Wild Mint, a Citrus Blend and will be
expanded over time.
SceNTL® is a unique and wide range of encapsulated fra-
grances that can be integrated onto the fabric and are gradu-
ally released over time. Upon release, the fragrances appeal
to the senses, promoting relaxation, wellbeing and feel-good
sensations.
While synthetic fragrances are composed of synthetic, man-
made ingredients, natural scents and oils are created by iso-
lating natural aroma components from raw plant materials.
This also explains why every SceNTL® batch can have a slight
variation in smell. As natural conditions differ from time to
time, every harvest is a little different from the previous one.
Although aromatherapy is still a young and understudied
domain, recent studies have shown that essential oils can
indeed have neurological effects. Linalool for example, a
component found in Lavender and rosewood, is found to en-
hance sleep, while Limonene, a component found in the peel of citrus fruits, is clinically proven to have an uplifting
effect.
At this moment, the SceNTL® range is intended for low-wash items such as mattress ticking, decorative pillows, up-
holstery, curtains, carpets, etc. It can also be used as a natural 'masking scent' for products that have a strong artificial
smell caused by the production process. The company is already looking into further development of other scents and
broader application use.

ISSN 2535-0447VIRUS-PROOF SOLES
online magazine for TEXTILES, CLOTHING, LEATHER AND TECHNOLOGY ISSN 2535-0447ВИРУС-УСТОЙЧИВИ ПОДМЕТКИ

Shoes with virus-proof soles? This is not something from the future! It is being developed in Portugal right now. A
group of Portuguese researchers are working on a project that involves the universities of Aveiro, Porto and Minho.
The goal? Create a virus-proof shoe sole to combat the coronavirus, among other pathogens.
One of the researchers said: "The ground is a vehicle for the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, meaning footwear
can be a vehicle for transmission of Covid-19.” The Safety Materials for Shoes project (SM4S) is being developed by a
consortium and the footwear company Ropar, responsable for the brand Arcopedico. This company, which specialises
in the comfort segment, has strong links with the health sector and is present in more than 50 countries.

According to the researchers: "The proposed solution involves the addition of one or more antiviral agents into the
soles’ components, without altering the intrinsic mechanical characteristics of the final material. In this way, we will
control one of the ways most vulnerable to virus transmission, which will help in the fight against Covid-19, especially
in places visited by a lot of people, such as health services and shops.”
How? The researchers explain that the basis of the solution is in the incorporation of antiviral, antibacterial and anti-
fungal properties into the soles of shoes. This will in no way alter any of the material’s mechanical characteristics and
will help prevent transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus as well as help stop the spread of other bacteria and
fungi. This last aspect is particularly important, since the hospital environment is "a particularly welcoming environ-
ment for the transmission of viruses, bacteria and fungi,” and one in which antiviral soles can provide added value to
the lives of health professionals working on the front line every day.

"We are still in the final phase, but we expect the company will soon place the product on the national and international
market,” said the researchers in a statement.

Other bodies involved in this project are: the Technological Centre for the Textile and Clothing Industry of Portugal
(CITEVE), the Technological Centre for the Leather Industries (CTIC) and the Centre for Excellence and Innovation in
the Automotive Industry (CEIIA).

100 YEARS OF TEXTILE RESEARCH AT THE DITF
online magazine for TEXTILES, CLOTHING, LEATHER AND TECHNOLOGY ISSN 2535-0447The German Institutes of Textile and Fiber Research Denkendorf (DITF) look back on 100 years of successful textile
research. In 1921, the cornerstone was laid in Reutlingen with the foundation of the German Research Institute for the
Textile Industry. Today, the DITF form the largest textile research center in Europe.
The new institution quickly met its goal of supporting
the domestic industry with independent research. With
the technical center as a teaching institute, the testing
office as a service provider and the research institute
as a source of ideas, the Reutlingen institute made a
significant contribution to the economic success of the
German textile industry in the following decades. Over
the years, further locations are established in Stuttgart
and Denkendorf, which are merged in Denkendorf in
1979 to become the German Institutes of Textile and
Fiber Research.
Today, the DITF conduct research on the entire textile
value chain, including corporate processes and business
models. The DITF work on an interdisciplinary basis: chemists, biologists, mechanical engineers, process engineers,
cyberneticists, computer scientists and economists collaborate in researching all textile topics of the future. They are
involved in regional, national and international networks. The DITF are looking forward to the challenges of tomorrow.
That is why the motto of this anniversary year is: LET'S CELEBRATE THE TEXTILE FUTURE.
"Today, the DITF are the innovation engine of the German economy, especially for technical textiles and medical tex-
tiles. We open up new ways of bringing textile ideas and technologies quickly and efficiently to industry and society,"
summarizes CEO Professor Götz T. Gresser the development since the beginnings 100 years ago.
With its innovations, the DITF primarily support small and medium-sized enterprises that do not have their own re-
search department. Specialized events, often in cooperation with other institutes, ensure knowledge transfer to vari-
ous industries. Service offerings such as a wide range of textile testing services, prototype construction and a pilot fac-
tory complement the DITF's range of services. In 2001, the subsidiary ITV Denkendorf Produktservice GmbH (ITVP)  is
founded, which successfully manufactures medical precursors for industrial partners.
For research on an industrial scale, the DITF is continuously expanding its pilot plants. In 2014, for example, the High-
Performance Fiber Center (HPFC), one of the world's most modern facilities for the development of high-performance
fibers, an important unique selling point of the DITF is built with the support of the state.
"This year, however, the DITF are celebrating especially the people who have accompanied 100 years of successful re-
search" emphasizes Professor Gresser. "These are, of course, first and foremost our dedicated employees who are pas-
sionate about their work every day. They include the industrial partners who work with the scientists to drive forward

future-oriented projects and implement nu-
merous research results on the market. And
last but not least, we would like to thank the
politicians and the administration for their
reliable support and their trust in 100 years
of textile future," adds Gresser.

(innBW). With more than 250 employees
on an area of more than 25,000 m², they
conduct nationally and internationally net-
worked application-oriented research across
the entire textile value chain. The DITF works on cross-thematic research and development projects for various appli-
cations such as mobility, architecture and construction, health and care, environment and energy as well as clothing.
Through three chairs and two professorships, the DITF are closely linked to the University of Stuttgart and the Univer-
sity of Reutlingen.
