HUES 2020
Dear Readers,
Hearty greetings to all! Hope you are in pink of health and wishing the safe days ahead!
Gone are the days where we shared probable certainties and the moments around us
whistle unpredictable realities and life tries to impersonate an empty lane for an escape
from normalcy but our mission to cater the needs of children continues to thrive and we
are indeed privileged to meet you with this Online Journal of Bhavans Middle East – HUES. The
journal is deeply rooted in publishing multi-disciplinary subjects where the essence of
initiation, collaboration and success work together. The term HUES talks about colour or
shade – songs of creation but at this juncture of time, we would like to view it in a
slightly different way by infusing HUMANITY. The colours of life flow when we combine
humane qualities in us.
The guide to the meaning of the word ‘HUMANITY’ speaks about human nature and
kindness. This word contains signification in each one’s perspective having its etymology
derived from Latin. The current journal tries to delve deeper into love, kindness and
compassion that can be shared with everyone.
Let our works echo rich values in our children to help them see their dreams getting
fulfilled in their lives. Shri Mr. N.K. Ramachandran Menon – our beloved Chairman of
Bhavans Middle East has been riding on the crest of success ever since the commencement of
this temple of learning in 2006. His metamorphosis from a financier to an educationist
lies on this quote that says, “Real education should educate us out of self into something
far finer; into a selflessness which links us with all humanity”.
Unbridled passion and phenomenal vision have encompassed his prestigious self to sow
seeds of his desire by instilling the trees of education in the Middle Eastern countries.
The visionary’s journey emerged as a bright and beautiful spring in this established
relationship between students and facilitators. Thus his journey on the road to zenith
started off by imparting values through education.
This current situation demands only one thing which is to show kindness to others. It is
a huge pleasure to extend my sincere thanks to the contributors, reviewers, readers
and others who have extended their invaluable support in the making of this journal. On
behalf of the members of the current editorial board, I wish everyone to have prosperous days
ahead. God bless all!
Stay Home Stay Safe,
With Best Regards,
Ms.A.P Marie Christiane

It is a privilege for me to be a part of the IES Bhavans Kuwait.
Our variety of academic, extra-curricular programs
combined with brilliant CBSE results has helped us to
increase enrollment to the point where we had to stop
taking in students whose FIRST choice is IES. The
entire staff truly enjoys each other’s company and
always pull together in times of need. Our reading
program is the best tool we have for building achievement
and we have dominated the literary contests in Kuwait for last six years.
Our well trained staff have been deployed to branch schools and they
have done us proud by being instrumental in setting standards that we
are known for. The “FISH” philosophy is transmitted across the staff
and student community and that is our best practice to record here.
Best wishes,
Mr.T.Premkumar

Schools are regarded as a natural extension of our homes and Wise Indian
Academy; Ajman can rightly be considered a “happy home”. The school is
an answer to the social needs of our students. Every single child feels
welcome in this green campus, where there is
opportunity for all irrespective of gender. It
was a proud moment for us when the girls’
football team won the runners up trophy in
the Northern Emirates Soccer Super Cup
Tournament. “Tawasol” the community outreach
programme that included a series of visits to
the Autism centre and a beach cleaning
drive, enabled our students to view the world with a sensitive perspective. The
"Coffee Mornings" with parents give a new definition to parental
involvement. Every day at Wise is an attempt to mould global citizens
with due attention being paid to inculcating in students everyday
etiquettes like attending phone calls, table manners etc.

Once anyone enters the corridors of BIS s/he can
hear the chatters of the eager minds, the excitement
of the winners, children singing in their melodious
voice and the thump of their dancing feet. Yes, with a
different perception we allow our students to relish
their childhood. Besides providing strong academic support we also try to instill
creativity, innovation and confidence.
At Bhavans Bahrain Indian School we agree with John Dewey that ‘Education is
not preparation for life; education is life itself.” It is a continuous learning
experience. BIS enjoys an enviable reputation in terms of its exceptionally
caring ethos that ensures all our students receive strong personal and academic
support.
The students, parents and the people of Bahrain witnessed BIS school growing
and traversing a glorious journey of six years. From our modest beginning in
the year 2014, today we are grown to a full-fledged Secondary School. At BIS,
we have dedicated ourselves to helping our students excel intellectually and
creatively. We give wings to their hidden dreams and talents in preparation for
lifelong learning and success. We strive to empower our learners with human
values self-confidence and a whole wide range of holistic skills like critical
thinking, problem solving, decision making, independent and divergent thinking
along with application of mind right from the beginning of their career so that
once they step into the world they are able to cope with every challenge
thrown at them.
We also focus on enhancing every student’s creativity through performing and
visual arts, music, and theatre. Through technology, math and science our
students learn skills to navigate the world. Thus, our vibrant and conducive
environment makes a child feel so much like a home away from home.
As it is often said, “There is something special about BIS.” I invite you to come
and find out why so…!

VASUDHAIVA KUTUMBAKAM – The world is one Family
When I think of our school- Bhavans SMART
INDIAN SCHOOL, KUWAIT- the first think
which sparks into my mind is indubitably is our
school motto – EDUCATION FIRST .Whatever we
do for our students ultimately should aim at
Education .We do all the activities for the
students, parents and the teachers which would
enhance their educative skills directly or indirectly.
Everyday morning starts with an assembly which kindles and enriches various
educative skills of our students, teachers and the parents.
Word of the day, usage of the same word in different forms of the tenses and
the meaning in all the five languages (ENGLISH, HINDI, FRENCH, ARABIC
AND SANSKRIT, Idiom of the day, wrong usage of English etc….. all aim at
enriching the educative skills of the students, teachers and the parents.
Our Yoga and meditation sessions and the water bell concept everyday make
our students and the entire staff to have self-realization for a bright future
ahead.
Even in this pandemic situation we have not left any stones untouched, coaching all
our people that we van transcribe any difficult situation into useful educative
venture if we have a positive vibes.
All the positive transformations happened on us and our near and dear ones
force us to say that CORONA, PYAAR KARONA…….As we all know that education is
the manifestation of all the good deeds, we at SMART INDIAN SCHOOL aim
at education first.
Whatever milestones we achieve keeping our motto education first is only because of
our teaching and non-teaching battalion with us .We should be always thankful
to our parents ,our gurus and all our people around us because of whom we are
interdependent and coexist to reach all the set goals.
Our special gratitude to our chairman, who is the epitome of humility and humanity.
Thank you to our students, their parents and grandparents for entrusting us
and make all our endeavors possible even in any difficult situations. Our sincere
gratitude to the almighty to keep our team firmly united so that we can inculcate
the values of humanity in each one of us aims at VASUDHAIVA KUTUMBAKAM –
The world is one family

A Pinch of love, peace and humanity
Every single day we wake up with a news of something terrible happening somewhere.
Even today in these modern times it is clear that no other generation had to
experience so much bad news as we have to face today; this should be enough
for any sensitive soul to question everything happening around in today's modern world.
We have achieved everything that is to be achieved in many fields and have
done wonders in science and technology but somehow education doesn't seem
enough, it doesn't seem to have raised goodness in the minds of people, instead
has only stimulated mental restlessness and discontent. We have not yet succeeded in
bringing about peace and happiness or in overcoming suffering.
We are all in the quest of happiness, to find inner peace and in this journey we adopt a self-centered
approach to life and usually try to use others for our own interest. Every being wants happiness to
be served to him/her, most are not at all concerned about people around them & their lives. If we,
as intelligent human beings, do not acknowledge the fact that we are collectively in this mayhem,
sufferings are ought to increase on this planet.
I feel it is necessary to develop a sense of universal responsibility, a deep concern for all irrespective of
creed, colour, religion and sex.
Every existing religion tells us about humanity, peace and love, which is why no religion should be
considered as higher than humanity.
Whether one believes in religion or not, there is no one who does not appreciate love and compassion.
Right from when we are born, we are under the care and kindness of our parents; later in life, when
we face sufferings of illness and old age, we depend on the kindness of people surrounding us. If at
the beginning and end of our lives we depend upon others' kindness, why then in the middle should
we not act kindly towards others?
Humanity is an important part of life , it is about empathising and understanding others and realizing
their problems with our own sensibilities and trying to help them. Trying to feel and to empower
them with faith.
If you continue believing that things are going to be the way they are and they will never change,
then you've already lost the game.
It is not someone else's responsibility to make you kind, compassionate, and sensitive. It should
start from you, it should start by restoring faith in ourselves.
Being good or bad, for most of us, is a constant choice. And when we keep trying to restore our faith
in others, we miss the whole point of life: it should start from within.
Even animals who have less thinking capabilities than humans show their love and care .
Many people think that empathy is an emotion shown by only humans. But many animals express
empathy for each other. There are documented stories of elephants finding people who were lost. In
one case, an old woman who couldn’t see well, got lost and was found the next day with elephants
guarding her. The elephants had protected her from hyenas, amidst a bunch of branches. That
seems extraordinary to us but it comes naturally to elephants.
As the great saint Dalai Lama once said “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without
them, humanity cannot survive.”
