“EPTS,

the Pride of PDS ”

Founded in 1997, EPTS is the pride of Patumwan Demonstration n
School. "EPTS" stands for the English Program for Talented Students. .
Yearly EPTS graduates con irm their impressive talents and we celebrate e
their successful accomplishment in the irst step of their tertiary y
education. On behalf of PDS, I am absolutely delighted that they are our r
immensely satisfying by-products. Annually we hold a party to celebrate e
their success, “Congratulations! You’ve made it”.
As the director of PDS, I promise to support and encourage our EPTS S
students to excel themselves. In my view, each letter in the “EPTS” ”
is abbreviated from these four meaningful words: “ E = Ethics; P = =
Professional ; T = Teamwork ; S = Smartness ”. I am certain our future e
EPTS graduates will increasingly live up to all our expectations.

EPTS WORLD CUP PROJECT

- A.Jason

The M1-M3 World Cup project combined all three Matthyom lower
levels (210 students) into an activity to represent the 32 teams
playing in the 2014 World Cup. The project brought together the
Geography curriculum for the lower levels (M1 Asia & Paci ic, M2
Europe & Africa and M3 North & South America) into a real world
event. All 32 countries were marked on their exhibitions in varying
degrees of dif iculty (M3s obviously being marked on more dif icult
components than the M1 students).
However this project was not only about grades. It was also
about the students learning Social Studies in an enjoyable and
knowledgeable way. The main World Cup event, held on Friday 4th
of June, was the climax of the 3 week project that had included lunch
time quizzes on a knockout basis (eventually won by the M2 group
Netherlands),student displays and of course the highlight was the
fashion show, won by Mexico.
All in all, everyone seemed to have a lot of fun and in the process
learnt about their respective countries and the other countries
taking part. It was great to see so many students putting so much
energy and creativity into this project and being able to gain
valuable knowledge about the Geography and cultures of countries
from around the world. It's just a shame, we have to wait 4 years
until the next World Cup. rld Cup.

The EPTS Amnesty International Club was started three years ago to help promote
student awareness of global human rights issues both in and out of the classroom. It
kicked off its irst meeting of the 2014 school year on Wednesday, July 9. Ms. Nawaphon
Supawitkul, an Amnesty International activism of icer, provided a brief overview of what
Amnesty International is about and then led the students through a fun classi ication-
type game, which helped them connect human rights to their lives. After that, the
students were shown a video clip about the individual- at- risk case of Mr. Chiou Ho
Shun, a Taiwanese man who has been wrongfully imprisoned on murder charges for over
twenty three years and is currently on death row. The students s
were encouraged to participate in a letter writing campaign to try y
and persuade the Taiwanese authorities to allow a fair retrial.

During April 21st - May 17th, 2014
our EPTS held the English intensive
course for new M.1 students under
the theme "EPTS 18 Survivors".
This course aimed to help all 70
students to improve their English
and prepare them to be ready in
EPTS program. There were several
core subjects taught by foreign and
Thai teachers including English,
Mathematics, Science, Computer
and Technology. Moreover, all
students attended the camp at
the Greenery resort, Khao-yai to
experience more activities and
help them to adapt themselves to
new community of teachers and
friends. The closing ceremony was
held at school and the students
performed the English shows to
their parents. This intensive course
was a successful project and the
students learned a lot from our
academic and joyful activities.
