" I'm an addict now."

These are just a few phrases we
have been hearing throughout our
daily conversations more and more
often each day. But while people
utter the word so often, have we
actually mastered the concept of
“addiction" yet? Do we fully
understand what it is to be addicted
before prejudicing someone as an
“addict"?

What is addiction? Simply defined,
addiction is the need for something
that' s not for basic survival. It's not
just drugs that people get addicted
to, is often misunderstood. People
also get addicted to things as
common and widespread as social
media, cartoons, and mobile phones.
Simply stated, addiction is to need a

In most cases, addiction starts from
the feeling of wanting to escape
from something, maybe from reality,
problems or negative feelings. People
who have an addiction might not be
brave enough to face it and avoid
these things by getting addicted to

Lots of people are addicted to anime, a

world of imagination and creativity that

How about those that judge their own
value based on social media? They don't
receive acceptance from others, so
their lives depend almost solely on
media. The very media that is luring us

In the previous 10 or so years, every New Year's Eve,
three friends who were as close as sisters, would come

their yearly ritual. This consisted of them pledging,
singing, dancing, and having fun. However, this year
was different. This year, the ghost of their past, lay

I’m a phone addiction

Over the past century, there have been a myriad of technological developments.
As a result, innovators thrive to create new technologies that meet the needs
of people. A classic example would be mobile phones. Although it eases our
lives tremendously, there are also disadvantages of phones too. It makes
people less socially interactive. Therefore, today we need things that decrease
the addiction of technology, such as applications that encourage people to
lift their faces from their devices.

BreakFree

BreakFree is an Android app developed by husband-and-wife duo Mrigaen
and Nupur Kapadia to help individuals who are hooked to their
smartphones 24/7 to break free fromf their addiction. The app works by
tracking the amount of time you spend glued to your screen and reminds
you when it's time to take a break. It is a smart analytic approach to taking
back your control over addictive apps such as Facebook or Pinterest.

Forest

Forest is an app that helps you reclaim the time lost in the reverie of social
media and stay in the present. It motivates nature lovers by planting a tree
for every hour the phone is not used. While it's simple enough to work for
children doing their homework and teenagers studying for their exams, it's
also an incredibly effective alternative to the Pomodoro Technique for
adults too
– especially if you have any kind of emotional attachment to nature

Brain-training

Brain-training app Memorado, developed in Berlin, offers a set of games
promising to improve your memory and “cognitive controls". How it works:
Users set training goals, take an assessment test, then leave the rest for
Memorado to provide selected games to match your goals. In September,
the startup behind the mobile game announced a $1.3 million seed round.

Checky

Checky is an app that counts each time you open your phone to send a text
message, see what's happening on Facebook, or whatever else it is you do
on that thing. At the end of the day, the app lets you see not only how
many times you have checked your phone, and a plot where every check-in
happened. There goes denying you were on your phone during dinner.
