How technology helps education ?

LEARNING TECHNOLOGY IN EPTS

By Ajarn James Sayer, EPTS Mathematics Teacher

Technology plays a very

important role in Education

and the EPTS teachers and
students have access to the

latest tools in technology

enhanced learning.

Moodle is EPTS’s Learning Management
System(LMS). It is the central storage space
for course information and content. Teachers
upload homework due dates, course
curriculum, highlighting materials used in
class and are able to offer adaptive testing
online. Moodle enables teachers to effectively
track and report student’s performance in
class.

Google Apps for Education is a suite of
software applications that enables
collaborative working. Project work becomes
a team effort with all students having access
to the work from school or from home.
Documents and sites are always backed up
ensuring that no student will lose their work.
Google Apps makes collaboration easy by
bringing students and teachers together.

Both Google Apps and Moodle offer platform
neutrality-they are accessible from
smartphones, tablets, PCs and Macbooks.

Science Labs M3 Integrated Projects

By Ajarn Craig, EPTS Lower Matayom Science
The M3 Integrated Project helps prepare students for life after graduation by
showing them how different subjects are connected in the real-world, even
though they are taught separately in school. It is a two semester group
project, where all the group members need to work together as a team to
conduct a scientific experiment and meet the requirements of all the other
subjects. They will complete two presentations, and produce a properly
referenced and formatted final report.

This year we have a brand new set of lab equipment for the new M3 physics
curriculum. Physics labs will include working with
inclined planes, pulleys, ticker tape timers, and spring
balances. Electrical labs are also a large part of the
M3 curriculum, and include using power
supplies, digital and analog One example of a project this year is ‘Music and People’ by Air, Pimmy, Nad,
multimeters, breadboards, and Pang from Room 341. For science they are going to investigate how

how Thai music is connected to Thai culture and daily life. The effects of
music and relaxation on health will also be studied. For English, they will
conduct research and follow the writing process for their report.
M5 Science Projects

By Ajarn Adam, EPTS Upper Matayom Biology

The M5 Science Projects are year-long projects in which all Science Program
students participate. The students work in small groups on a science project
of their choice. Previous projects have included an analysis of water quality in
Bangkok, antimicrobial properties of Thai herbs, the making and use of a
chlorophyll battery, and an investigation into the effect of temperature on
electrical resistance in various materials. Students are given the choice of

interpersonal skills, and the use of ICT to analyze and report data.

Often, students face a number of challenges to overcome during the course of
their projects. For example, how exactly do you design an experiment to test
which substances wood decays most quickly in, or to investigate the viscosity
of different liquids? Last year, one group even had to figure out how to breed
and successfully raise homing pigeons! It is precisely problems like these
which makes the M5 Science Projects a challenging but ultimately rewarding
experience. They provide students with a valuable learning opportunity, one
that is relevant whether or not they continue to pursue science at University or
A key aim of the projects is to promote students’ understanding of science as a career. This is because all of us need to understand how science works if

2 Health stresses learning the many areas of character education, such as responsibility, caring,
Mcitizenship, and other important qualities. The project requires that the students earn 25,000
baht, and collect their good old toys or to buy new ones with their allowance. This is the 4th year that
the M2’s have worked on this project. To raise the money, the M2 class cooks spaghetti, bakes goods,
and then has a bake sale. This year’s bake sale is scheduled for the first week of July.

M4 Volunteer Project

ast December, the M4 students began collecting toys and gifts for the kids at Rajanukun
LSchool. They worked hard and they collected almost 100 toys for the kids. They were also
working hard on improving their character as well along the way. In March, they went to the
school and met the students for the first time. They spent the morning helping them play and
learn, as well as giving them gifts and treats.
