Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

I am grateful for the chance to write to this first issue of the SSB Seni Travel

magazine. Special thanks to the editors of Sekretariat Seni Budaya PMS' Creative

Art Writing Department for taking the effort to collaborate with students enrolled

in DTM 50163 Visitor Interpretation Service. May this collaboration provide

polytechnic students with a good platform for obtaining experience and enhancing
their writing talents. Each component addressed must therefore be addressed

thoughtfully, as this publication will serve as a resource for introducing tourists to
attractive places in Malaysia.

The publication of this SSB Seni Travel magazine is an effort by the Sekretariat

Seni Budaya to provide information on the art and culture of places in Malaysia

and to act as a resource for the Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian
Negara and local tourist organisations. The enthusiasm and tireless
effort of polytechnic educators will act as a catalyst for a yield in
the commitment and excellence of educators in educating and
assisting students.

Hence, I believe that the publication of this magazine will
encourage students to demonstrate their creative writing skills
and abilities. In addition to developing their writing abilities,
students learn to enhance their creative and critical thinking
skills in terms of idea generation. Thus, the initiation of such
a project will help students develop their abilities and prepare
them for their future careers.
Thank you.

Author's Letter

Dear Reader,

We are pleased to introduce our first issue of 'Tumpat - District of
Culture and Architecture' magazine. The purpose of this magazine is to
promote and provide information about the location that we visited,
Tumpat, Kelantan. Authors for this magazine came from the Sekretariat
Seni Budaya PMS' Creative Art Writing Department in collaboration
with students enrolling in DTM50163 Visitor Interpretation Service.

Our magazine aimed to represent the art and culture of our destination.
In the publication of this magazine, the reader will have the opportunity
to learn about the assortment of art and culture in Tumpat, thereby
promoting the area.

It is our pleasure to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped
make this magazine a success, in particular, my lecturers, Ms Nur
Hashimah Binti Said, Ms Syuhairah Binti Mohd Norhisham Lee, and
Mr. Ariff Shafiq Bin Hamidi, who provided assistance to us during the
process.

Our family members have been a great source of moral support and we
would like to express our gratitude to them for their support. We also
wish to express our appreciation for the assistance and cooperation of
our colleagues in completing this project successfully.

In collaboration with students enrolled in DTM 50163 Visitor

Interpretation Service, Sekretariat Seni Budaya PMS'

Creative Art Writing Department aspires to develop a

project on Malaysian art and culture in the form of a

magazine. SSB Seni Travel magazine intended to emphasise

the diverse art and culture of Malaysia's eastern coast

community. We witnessed the richness of art and culture in

each area we visited in this first edition of our magazine.

It's a good thing we decided to visit the east coast during

Ramadhan since it highlights more of their food culture

and activities that locals normally perform during

Ramadhan.

We did study on the areas we wanted to see before

traveling to the east coast. We are delighted to spend our

Ramadhan month there. When we arrived to the east coast,

we were intrigued by the art and culture that they had to

offer. Our magazine strives to promote and provide

information about local art and culture.

Tumpat

Tumpat refers to both a town and a City of Tumpat
district in Kelantan, Malaysia. Tumpat is
located at the very end of the Malayan
Railways' East Coast railway line. This
rail route connects Kelantan to
Peninsular Malaysia's western parts.
Tumpat has been Kelantan's
transportation hub due to its strategic
location. Tumpat do have several
meanings in Malay. Tumpat can be
defined as the "end or conclusion of a
certain thing." Another common
interpretation of the word 'Tumpat' is
"an empty place that has been filled to
the brim."

Tumpat has existed for around 190 years.

Many supplies were hauled in and out

using small boats such as sampans due to

the lack of appropriate roads or routes of

transportation. Initially, only

transportations weighing 300 to 400

tonnes were allowed to dock. In response

to changes in rules, more transportation

stopped at Tumpat before heading to

Singapore in recent years.

KELANTAN MALAY TRADITIONAL SHADOW PLAY
GALLERY

Until recently, wayang kulit was a
popular Malay traditional performance
art in Kelantan. Although wayang kulit is
the primary medium in wayang kulit
performances, the concept is that it is
more of a shadow play than a wayang
kulit performance. Pak Dain, whose true
name is Muhammad Dain bin Othman,
designed the puppet.
During the harvest season, shadow plays
were presented for the Malay community
as entertainment. It was originally
created to provide income for the show's
organizer.
The current generation of Kelantan has
little understanding and appreciation of
wayang kulit, so shadow performances
are being used in international
promotion of the art form.

It is situated on a quarter-acre plot Pak Dain puppet figure
of land in Kampong Morak, collections
Palekbang, Kelantan. The Kelantan
Traditional Malay Puppet Gallery is
housed in a building with four main
rooms: the first is a stage or shed for
wayang kulit performances; the
second is an exhibition hall for
musical equipment, wayang kulit
photos, and their history. The third
room is a workshop for puppet
masters, with puppeteers and
mementos.

WAT MACHIMARAM

The Buddha's lower lip appears gold-plated, which could
consist of gold leaf, paint, or plating. The figure sits cross-
legged on the roof of the temple, which is shaped like a lotus
flower. The statue's size is depicted through a window on the
petals of a lotus flower. Murals and paintings in both Thai and
Chinese styles can be found inside the temple. Various festivals
are also conducted in this wat, including Wesak Day, Lakathor,
Chinese New Year Celebration, and chai entry ceremony.

Wat Machimmaram, located in Kelantan's Tumpat area, is a
Thai Buddhist temple with a large sitting Buddha figure. The
Buddha statue that stands 30 metres high is a place Buddhist
believers should visit. It is frequently referred to as Southeast
Asia's tallest summit. This Buddhist sitting was constructed in
1990 by talented Thai craftsmen and was completed in 2000. On
closer inspection, it becomes evident that the Buddha statue is
covered in tiny mosaic tiles.

discovered a mosque that existed no less than
300 years ago at Kampung Laut. As a result of
the recent floods in Kelantan, the mosque was
relocated to Nilam Puri.

TUMPAT TRAIN STATION

The station is well-known since it is the last KTMB stop
in Kelantan before the railway line ends. The station is
located near the sea. This is the only station on the East
Coast that is close to the sea. In addition to Kuala Lipis,
Tumpat train station is responsible for managing all
KTMB train loading operations. Because it is the main
stop for KTMB to rest and manage logistics, the facilities
are more than adequate. KTMB Tumpat is still using the
old station. Today, this old station still exists. KTMB
Tumpat, which was later connected to Sungai Golok, was
the first route established by the British. Ticket booths are
open from 4 a.m. until 11 p.m.

Food menus

The term "Ike bekok" comes
from the process of preserving
fish by salting and drying it.
The fish had to be immersed
in salted water combined with
vinegar or marinated solely
with salt for roughly 30
minutes. The fish is then dried
for a whole day. This meal
pairs well with warm rice and
other side dishes.

This restaurant serves salted
dried fish as well as various
side dishes. The restaurant's
staff will cook the fish chosen
by the customers. It took us 24
minutes and 34 kilometers to
get to this restaurant from Kota
17 Bharu.

sweetened condensed milk are all included in one bowl of Bingsoo.

There are a variety of flavors, including

red beans and many others.

Additionally, red beans are referred to as

Patbingsu or Patbingsoo, while other
