Because Your
Mother Love

You

Andrew Clements

This is a story for mother and son all over the world.

When you get lost in the outdoor equipment
store, you shout loudly,

MOM!

Your mother could have said: It’s alright, I’ll come to you right now!
But she wouldn’t say that.

She will call out your name and let you follow her voice and look for it.

When you find her, you have to make sure that you will never walk
around again before you can get a big hug.

When you are climbing a mountain and your backpack feels like a big
rock, your mom could have said: Your bag looks too heavy, come on, let
me carry it for you!
But she wouldn’t say that.

She will let you sit down for a while and drink some water. Then,
she asks you to put your backpack back on and keep climbing

When you have to cross the stream and that single-
plank bridge looks so narrow and dangling, your
mother could have said: Don’t worry, I’ll take you
there.
But she wouldn’t say that.

She will walk over first
and give you a
demonstration. Then, let
you follow along, entirely
on your own.

By the time you pitched the tent, you were
clueless and messed up, and your mother
could have said: This is grown-up work, go
and rest.
But she wouldn’t say that.

She will teach you to read the manual
again. Then you step by step, step by
step…
Finally your tent is done!

It’s late at night and you
can’t open your sleepy eyes.
Your mother could have
said: You are too tired, let
me carry you to bed.
But she wouldn’t say that.

She pulls you up to put
out the campfire with
her, then she leads you
to the tent and you get
in by yourself.

When you lay down, then your mother could have said:
See you when the sun rises!
Or: there's more to come tomorrow!
Or: take a good rest now!
But she wouldn't say that.

She will hold you and whisper to you: I love you!

Moral Value

-Love does not hold you in the palm of your
hand; love makes you brave to fly by yourself!

-Try to do it all by yourself, because that’s
how you grow.
