INVITATION – CALL FOR ENTRY

Artists from around the World are invited to submit works of wearable art to be
unveiled in a fabulous fashion show setting on November 14, 2015 in Saskatoon.

The Saskatchewan Wearable Art Gala (SWAG) is primarily concerned with the creation
of wearable items not traditionally, or typically, associated with clothing, fashion or
“haute couture”. This event is about the exploration of materials, processes and
methods which are generally not associated with fashion or clothing.

We want you to challenge yourself to be creative and inventive, and to let your
imagination run wild.

The only pre-requisite is that the piece(s) must be WEARABLE!

THE GALA PERFORMANCE

The Gala Performance will be a “runway show” where the human body, movement and
dance, music and wearable art unite to create an expressive, “living” work of art. The
venue is the Roxy Theatre in Saskatoon, Canada.

Saturday November 14, 2015 promises to be a really fun evening, unlike any other!

ENTRY INFORMATION

To participate in the 2015 Saskatchewan Wearable Art Gala (“SWAG”) the artist’s
application package must be submitted electronically at

http://www.jackmillikincentre.com/swag_artist_applications

no later than 5 pm on Friday, September 25th, 2015.

Each artist is allowed to submit up to three items for jurying. The Application must
contain:

Artist’s contact information (name(s), address, email and telephone #)

Information related to each entry to be entered into the competition: the
entry’s title, materials and processes used, garment size, and an artist’s
statement of 150 words.

Three, high resolution images of each entry to be entered into the competition
(front, back and a detail of the artist’s choosing). Images must be a minimum
size of 1000 pixels by 1000 pixels – jpg format required.

ENTRY FEE

There is a $50.00 entry fee, which allows an artist to submit up to three pieces.
Collaborations are allowed, but submissions entering under the same $50.00 fee must
all be by the same artist or the same group of collaborators. Payment must be made
either by cheque or credit card at the time of entry (the electronic submission).

CATEGORIES 2

An entry must fall into one of the following three categories:

“HEADPIECE”: Mechanisms must be in place for a proper and safe fit.

“CORSET and/or COD PIECE”: If the entry is a corset and/or a cod-piece, then you
will need to supply appropriate under garments such as a close fitting black tank top
and footless tights.

“OPEN”: Entries must be a full outfit to be considered for this category. To be
considered a full outfit, the entry must cover the model’s upper and lower body.

JURY and JURYING – Decisions by the Jury are final

A jury will review the application packages and select those entries that will be part of
the Saskatchewan Wearable Art Gala Performance. Artists whose entries are chosen
will be notified via email during the week of Monday, 28 September 2015.

Entries juried into SWAG must be sent by mail or hand delivered to: Lindsay Embree
and/or Arnfinn Prugger, 1040 Aird Street, Saskatoon, SK. All entries must arrive during
the time period of Monday, 05 October – Monday, 19 October 2015.

Entries must be wearable. They do not need to be “practical clothing” so the more
unusual the piece, the better. Entries will be judged based on the following criteria:

Creativity/Originality: does the piece exhibit a “WOW!” factor?

Design: the use of multiple design elements, unusual materials and techniques
and / or processes is encouraged.

Conceptual Message: is this clearly stated?

Quality of Workmanship and Construction: the work must stand up to the
rigours of multiple fittings and a runway show.

2 Note that the SWAG committee reserves the right to cancel categories at any point during the
judging process. As well, SWAG reserves the right to move entries between categories if it is felt
the entry is better suited to a category other than that for which it was originally submitted.

AWARDS

A total of $6,000 in prize money will be awarded as follows:

 1 Best in Show Award of $1,500.00

 3 First Place Awards of $1,000.00 each, one given in each of the the three
categories: Headpiece, Corset and/or Cod Piece, and Open.

 3 Runner-up Awards of $500.00 each, one given in each of the three categories.

Cash prizes will be presented to category winners as determined by the jury. Decisions
by the Jury are final. Awards are in Canadian dollars.

Please keep in mind that the pieces will be presented on live models. They will need to
