ERNEST ALFRED MAYO (1868-1946)
Ernest A. Mayo was born in England and worked in the office of H.M.
Townsend in Birmingham. After practicing briefly in South Africa, he
came to Chicago and served as an architectural advisor for the 1893 World’s
Colombian Exposition and designed several of the administration buildings.
Mayo dominated the design of residential architecture in Evanston for wealthy
homeowners from the turn of the century until his death in 1946.
