NECRONS
NECRON HISTORY The Necrons are one of the most frightening races in Warhammer 40,000. Aeons ago they ruled vast swathes of the galaxy as cruel immortal masters, their people having forsaken frail, mortal flesh for deathless living metal bodies. Yet, the march of time and the wrath of their foes drove the Necrons into hibernation. For sixty million years they slumbered under the surfaces of their tomb worlds. These subterranean mausolea are filled with dormant armies and inactive war machines. Now the Necrons are awakening as if from half-remembered nightmares, and the galaxy shudders at their return.

OVERLORD SZAREGON Szaregon leads a Necron dynasty which is in turn a part of the larger Sautekh dynasty. He believes the way to rebuilt the greatness of the Necrons is to find new biological vessels for their consciousness, and when the Adeptus Mechanicus makes contact with him, Szaregon is initially curious about whether humanity can serve as such vessels. The more Szaregon learns about humanity, particularly the Imperium, the more he comes to see humanity as hopelessly flawed and corrupted; and for the good of the galaxy, should be exterminated. Szaregon is forced to emerge from his sarcophagus early when the Tech-Priests breach his tomb.
VIZIER MHELOB Mhelob is a Cryptek in Szaregon’s court, master of the most esoteric Necron technologies. Mhelob is highly curious and sees humanity, like all other species, as creatures to be studied. He communicates with the Tech-Priests exploring his tomb, enthusing about how much he is looking forward to vivisecting them. To Mhelob, the universe is a puzzle to be solved. Mhelob has a rivalry with Lord Neftusk, whom he sees as a simple labourer without the imagination to aspire to be more.
LORD ASTROMER EKROPIS Ekropis is the astronomer to Szaregon’s court. He is akin to a religious official and is Szaregon’s expert on the C’Tan. Ekropis is fanatical about the superiority of the Necrons, for they are a people that once killed their gods and therefore can have nothing to fear from mortal enemies.
VOID ADMIRAL AGROLEKH Agrolekh is a Destroyer Lord and master of Szaregon’s fleets. He is an enthusiastic adherent to the nihilistic philosophy of the Necron Destroyers, which calls for total oblivion of life in the galaxy - if the Necrons cannot live and prosper in this galaxy, no one should. Agrolekh is fuelled by hatred of all life, including his own.
LORD UBJAO Ubjao was infected by the Flayer Virus during the Great Sleep and has gone mad. He has the same bloodlust as the Flayed One packs, married with the torment of remembering the powerful, enlightened being he once was. He speaks only to lament his appalling suffering. Ubjao wants to die but is barely able to articulate this wish. When the Mechanicus meet him in combat, he hopes that, finally, his day has come, the day that relieves him of this suffering.
GRAND ARCHITECT NEFTUSK Neftusk is the architect to Szaregon’s court and is responsible for building the tomb complexes on Silva Tenebris. Neftusk believes he will be the one to rebuild the galaxy as a monument to the greatness of the Necrons, and is obsessed by the grandeur of the legacy he will bequeath to the universe via his creations. Neftusk selected the location of the tomb complex on Silva Tenebris for its large deposits of Blackstone, ready to become the key location for resource mining for the Sautekh Dynasty. Neftusk has a rivalry with Mhelob, whom he sees as a dreamer whose lofty ideas have no grounding in reality.

The Caestus Metalican is an armed Explorator ship commanded by the triumvirate of Magi. It is crewed by dozens of Tech-Priests and thousands of menials and servitors. Faustinius directs the tomb exploration missions from here, and between missions, visits various locations to prepare his forces for the next deployment to converse with other key Mechanicus characters. The Caestus Metalican is a gothic-industrial pile combining functional warship architecture with the oppressive, ornate religiosity of the Cult Mechanicus. Bizarrely specialised servitors trundle through the corridors while servo-skulls and cherub-servitors hover through the air. CAESTUS METALICAN

SILVA TENEBRIS
TOMB VALLEY OF SILVA TENEBRIS The Tomb Valley is located in a stretch of dense and hostile jungle. It is inhospitable, though not enough to be a true Death World, it’s lack of other lifeforms leaves an eerie image on the minds of those that venture here. An area of cleared jungle contains the intact but abandoned Imperial settlement of Saint Eckhardt’s Hope. Near the settlement are ancient xenos ruins, overrun by the hungry jungle. As Faustinius and the Explorator expedition send down Skitarii cohorts on scouting missions on the crust of Silva Tenebris, more entrances to the Necron tombs are discovered. A number of sites are impenetrable due to long ago collapses or vast floodings from nearby lakes. It is truly unclear how many tomb complexes sit within the crust of this rock. Most entrances are accessible with simple explosives or blessed flame. Is there truly anything of value upon this cursed planet?

TOMB OF EKROPIS This tomb is bathed in a sickly green light that serves not to illuminate, but only to make the shadows deeper. Every surface seems connected via filaments of alien light. The design here speaks of xenos tech-heresy, forbidden knowledge and a structure as alive and aware as anything inhabiting it.
