DQ CHANNELS n February 2023 4 A CyberMedia Publication COVER STORY For more about Partners Strategies, log on to www.dqchannels.com Expanding the Territory DR ARCHANA VERMA [email protected] Many members of the partner community are expanding into new fields to check their partner business decline and to get profit. What are their thoughts? These are turbulent times. The Indian market remains unstable. New technologies are evolving which enable the vendors to reach their end clients directly, bypassing the channel community and clients find these new technologies more convenient than the older models that have been in existence so far. Changing Times While the partner business is not going away at least for some years, its size is dwindling, especially in the metros. There is no escaping from this. Although large partner businesses are still doing very well and national distributors are helping the partners to fulfil large orders, smaller partners are facing a decline. New Segments Perhaps, in the near future, we may find a situation where the large partner businesses will monopolise the market and smaller partners will expand into newer segments. We are already seeing a trend where many smaller partners have expanded into newer segments. Some of these segments are related to the IT partner business, while some are not directly related. We see many partners turning manufacturers of IT products and accessories. This trend is supported by the Make in India scheme of the government, which gives the manufacturers many kinds of incentives. Another expanded territory is providing services along with selling products. Although this trend existed even earlier, now we see a gradual expansion of the services segment as the products sales segment shrinks for the smaller partners. While providing services for IT products is integrated with the sale of IT gadgets, there’s another segment that may not be completely related to the IT products. This segment enlists providing advisory services for business growth to clients, who may or may not come from the IT sector. Further, some sellers may diversify into providing services of other kinds that are not in the IT domain. Thus, the partner community is trying to find newer ways to achieve business growth in these changing times. In the following passages, a few such partners have expressed their views about diversification of their business. Manufacturing IoT products Atlanta Systems has diversified into manufacturing IoT products. These include connected devices, sensors and software platforms remote monitoring devices and solutions, GPS and GSM based data loggers, vehicle and asset tracking devices and so on. Atlanta has a state-of-theart production facility, equipped with SMT lines and quality control equipment, both pre and post-production. Growth of the diversified field It has grown from 2 IoT divisions to 5 divisions, expanding into home automation, industrial IoT and renewable IoT solutions in past couple of years with a CAGR of 30% in this period. Is this diversified field equal to or more profitable than the partner business? The long-term vision to get into the manufacturing of electronics and IT products is the right strategy. Some potential benefits and drawbacks to consider – Benefits of manufacturing IT products • Control over the product development process, allowing for a higher degree of customisation and innovation • The ability to differentiate yourself from competitors by offering unique products • Increased potential for profit, as the company captures more of the value of the product. Drawbacks of manufacturing IT products • Higher initial investment in research and development, as well as production costs • Greater risk of product failure or obsolescence • Limited resources and expertise compared to larger established players On the other hand, partnering with or reselling IT products from other companies can also have its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Benefits of partnering or reselling IT products • Lower initial investment and risk, as the company does not need to fund product development • Ability to offer a wider range of products to customers • Potential for lower costs and greater efficiency through economies of scale Drawbacks of partnering or reselling IT products • Less control over product development and branding • Potential for lower profit margins, as the company captures less of the value of the product • Dependence on the performance and reputation of the partner company Ultimately, whether manufacturing IT products or partnering with SUJEET NARULA, Founder and CEO, Atlanta System
A CyberMedia Publication 5 February 2023 n DQ CHANNELS For more about Partners Strategies, log on to www.dqchannels.com COVER STORY things are changing slowly, women in India are rising Running Aadhar Card/Voters’ Card/PAN Card Agency SK Computers started off in 2015 as a laptop and smartphone repair services provider. Gradually, it became a dealer in laptops, UPS, printers, photocopy machines, smartphones, wi-fi routers, headphones, antiviruses and other softwares. This was a case of a service provider turning into a hardware and software dealer, in contrast to many cases that go in the reverse direction. However, after a few years, SK Computers became an agent for renewing and making Aadhar cards, Voters’ cards, PAN cards and a photocopier and printing services provider. It continues to deal in IT dealership and services works. Growth of the diversified field and comparison to the partner work At present, the diversified field makes up 80-90% of the business of SK Computers. It has seen its profit multiplying several times, almost 400- 500% as compared to the times of hardware and software dealership. This is because almost every individual needs Aadhar Card, Voters’ Card and PAN card nowadays and printing and photocopying needs have increased multifold. Would they like to expand the diversified activity further? If allied fields such as obtaining necessary government documents Manufacturing CCTV cables and other accessories Securenet manufactures CCTV cables, power supply, CAT 6 cables and other surveillance accessories. They provide lifetime warranty and have gained all necessary certifications. Growth of manufacturing activity They started from 1 office in Allahabad/Prayagraj and expanded to having 2 more offices in Delhi and Lucknow. Their profit margin has increased considerably. Is this manufacturing activity equal to or more profitable than the partner business? In the CCTV segment, there is considerable competition from the wellknown multinational brands. Hence, it requires evolving new strategies to popularise these products. However, there’s a large base of clients who want low-cost good quality products. Securenet fill that niche for the clients who don’t have a high budget, but who don’t want to compromise on quality. Would they like to expand the manufacturing activity further? There is a large market for the CCTV accessories, which the vendor companies are not completely able to target. Hence, Securenet would explore newer ways to expand further in this segment. Motivating factor behind manufacturing CCTV accessories Securenet saw a potential in the surveillance accessories market, which was not completely addressed by the MNCs in this segment. Hence, desire increase in demand, then they would certainly like to maximise profits by expanding in this field. Further, may go into manufacturing IT products accessories which are nowadays being imported from China. Motivating factors behind diversification Desire to expand profit base, as dealership business was declining. Going into diversified field not only checked the losses, but gave more profit than earlier. SUNIL KUMAR, Owner, SK Computers SHIV SHANKAR, MD, Securenet for profit, innovation and offering quality to all clients-bases became the motivation. Seeing these insights, it becomes clear that partners who have remained flexible and innovative about making profit have been able to beat the decline in their partner business. Further, it emerges that every business leader, whether they are big or small, eventually want to expand and maximise their profit, make a name for themselves as the quality products and services providers and encourage innovation. Hence, other partners who find themselves in a similar slot, can find insights from this and venture into newer territories. other companies is more beneficial will depend on a variety of factors, including the company’s goals, resources and the specific products and services it is offering. It’s important to consider all the pros and cons and evaluate which strategy would best align with your company’s capabilities and objectives. Would they like to expand their manufacturing activity further? Every IT/electronics company must expand and diversify into different segments so that it cannot only sustain in the long term but also achieve continuous growth. Hence, Atlanta’s roadmap for the next five years is aligned with the same belief. Also aims to increase its market share and gain a competitive advantage in the global market. Motivating factor behind going into manufacturing Desire to innovate and differentiate from others; achieve long-term success; control over design and development to be able to provide quality. Hence, ignoring short-term challenges, established a manufacturing unit in Himachal Pradesh.
DQ CHANNELS n February 2023 6 A CyberMedia Publication COVER STORY For more about Partners Strategies, log on to www.dqchannels.com What were your reasons for diversifying? Online portals have transformed the traditional business now and I predicted it a long time ago. In mid 2000s, I had slowly moved out of the channel business for three reasons – 1. Margins had started shrinking 2. Cost of the labour is increasing for both sales and services 3. Enterprises had started reaching out to end-client companies directly How profitable is this alternative field vis-a-vis the IT Sub-Distributor/partner work? I had not expanded into a new field overnight. I had slowly transformed it from a large sub-distributor to servicing select customers. Then, I gradually expanded into wealth management and financial advising based on stock market analysis. Clients can use my insights about the market and make informed and carefully weighed decisions about their financial management. We run various YouTube channels on personal finance, having ‘Money Pechu’ (Money Speaks) as our flagship channel. It is quite profitable, as I am quite well-known in financial advising and my clients trust me in this new segment in which I have expanded. SWAMINATHAN B [email protected] Anand Srinivasan, Sub-Distributor and Wealth Advisor, began his journey in IT sub-distribution. Now, he has expanded to financial advising consultancy. He is also engaged in wealth advising and stock analysis in Tamil Nadu and has become quite well-known in this field. Here he talks about his expansion of field Where do you see the IT Partner work going in the next 5 years? Channel partners need to redefine the business. There is no right costing across the markets and choices for consumers are increasing. I see many long timers had moved out of the business. Even the large distributors are having issues in the industry. Nowadays, we have been seeing that many national distributors have a slow business growth. As new Smart techs are coming in, vendors are finding new ways to find their customers’ base. Although very large orders such as those required by large organisations are still served by distributors, smaller resellers are facing the threat of extinction. Instead of trying to resist this trend, which is only going to grow as newer techs come into existence, partners should have an open mind towards expanding into new territories to cover their business stagnation and find new grounds of growth. I feel that this trend of capturing new end-clients directly by using Smart techs is only going to grow further. Hence, keeping an open mind and being flexible in business strategy is the way to grow. Would you like to further expand on this diversified field? I would recommend that partners should try diversifying their businesses. Given the fact that the industry is not stable, I would highly recommend the traditional channel partners should diversify. Ultimately, a business is meant for making profits by adding value to our clients’ lives and work. If I am getting good opportunities in my expanded segment, I would certainly like to venture further in this direction. However, one doesn’t know what holds in future. If subdistribution becomes a lucrative segment in future, I can even intensify my sub-distribution work. However, seeing the current trends at the moment, I feel the distributors and partners should be cautious and should definitely expand into newer territories to gain from the low-lying fruits in other segments. We can have diverse fields of operation, to check our losses and slowdowns. If one segment doesn’t give profits, some other segment will eventually counter-balance it and will give profit. Hence, keeping an open mind is the best strategy for an unstable and unpredictable market such as India. A Su b-Distribu tor and Wealth Advisor ANAND SRINIVASAN
A CyberMedia Publication 7 February 2023 n DQ CHANNELS For more about Partners Strategies, log on to www.dqchannels.com PERSPECTIVE Where are the Spare Parts of Made in India Produ c ts? DR ARCHANA VERMA [email protected] Without the spare parts of IT products, the Made in India products are bound to fail Many MNCs have opened manufacturing units in India, to avail of the Make in India incentive of the government and to facilitate the volume of supply across the country. This was thought of as a solution to meet the rising demand for the IT products during lockdown. Now with the rising digitisation and popularisation of the Smart Tech solutions, there is a steadily rising demand for the IT products which are used to run these solutions. Primarily among them are smartphones and laptops, but they also include other products such as routers, UPS, desktops and others. This anticipates a steady rise in supply of these products across India, to keep the momentum of growth. Where are the Spare Parts? There is an important dimension of this development however, which cannot be ignored. Companies such as Panasonic, Lenovo, Dell, HP etc have opened manufacturing units in India and are already sending supplies of finished products across India. However, when clients need a replacement of a part of these IT products, they can’t find the spare parts in India. They have to depend upon the flush of inferior quality duplicate spare parts imported from China to keep their gadgets going. The other option is that because of the lack of availability of a small part, they discard an entirely good gadget and buy a new one. This doesn’t work very well for the clients, as it is a very expensive proposition. The Problem of Duplicate Parts Many clients don’t like to install a low-grade duplicate Chinese product things are changing slowly, women in India are rising in their expensive high quality gadget, as there is no warranty in these duplicate parts and their performance quality is low grade. It ultimately spoils the original gadget. They would prefer to buy a replacement spare part from the original manufacturer. However, retailers are stocked with only duplicate parts imported from China. They simply don’t have original parts. Even if the clients take the trouble of going to a service centre, there’s no certainty that they will get a replacement part for their gadget. Further, whenever there’s conflict between India and China, or if Chinese market shuts down because of an internal problem like Covid, it affects the import of even the duplicate parts from China. The client is then left with no option of either a duplicate spare part, or an original one. Trumping Make in India This entire system ultimately trumps the very concept of Make in India, if the clients are ultimately dependent on low-grade Chinese imports of duplicate parts to install in an original Make in India product. Having gone through the experience, many clients begin to reject Make in India products. The only way to solve this problem is that the original manufacturers who are spending resources to establish manufacturing units in India, should also release spare parts of their products and have them retailed at least in some major stores and online. This will help to promote Make in India gadgets, as people will feel more assured while buying these products manufactured in India. The manufacturers should take note of this and devise a workable plan to replenish the parts of their products. The government should also make it mandatory that all Make in India manufacturers should see to it that the spare parts of their products are readily available. The original manufacturers who are spending resources to establish manufacturing units in India, should also release spare parts of their products and have them retailed at least in some major stores and online

In modern times these two countries have forged strong commercial ties which our IT business leaders can use to their advantage. Most Favoured Nation According to the Embassy of India in Cairo, Egypt has traditionally been one of India’s most important trading partners in the African continent. The India-Egypt Bilateral Trade Agreement has been in operation since March 1978 and is based on the Most Favoured Nation clause and the bilateral trade has increased more than five times in last ten years. The bilateral trade in 2018-19 reached US$ 4.55 billion. Despite Pandemic, the volume of trade declined only marginally to US $ 4.5 billion in 2019-20 and to US $ 4.15 billion in 2020-21. According to the Indian Embassy at Cairo, the bilateral trade has expanded rapidly in 2021-22, amounting to 7.26 billion registering a 75% increase compared to FY 2020-21. India’s exports to Egypt during this period amounted to US$ 3.74 billion, registering a 65% increase over the same period in FY 2020-21. Egypt’s exports to India reached US$ 3.52 billion registering an 86% increase over the previous year. According to the Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS), India was the 6thmost important trading partner for Egypt in FY2021-22. During this period, India was the 6thlargest export destination and 6thmost significant source of imports as well. Bilateral mechanisms are in place to facilitate trade and economic relations between India and Egypt. The Mission also assists in organising various fora for commercial collaboration. Since 2020, due to the pandemic, most of the events and meetings have been held virtually. 3P Africa International Expo was organised by PHDCCI in July 2021, in which Ambassador spoke on India-Africa business promotion. The Ambassador also held video-conferences with major Indian infrastructure companies like L&T and Shapoorji Pallonji to encourage them to look at the infra projects in Egypt. As a result, many of them have started bidding for projects there. things are changing slowly, women in India are rising The Ambassador also held video-conferences with NASSCOM and Indian IT companies to urge them to explore the Egyptian market. After the lull period due to the pandemic, since August 2021, Egypt has started organising Trade Fairs with physical participation. Indian Companies’ Investment Around 50 Indian companies have invested in various sectors in Egypt with a combined investment exceeding US$ 3.15 billion. Major Indian investments in Egypt include TCI Sanmar (with the largest investment of US$ 1.5 billion), Alexandria Carbon Black, Kirloskar, Dabur India, FLEX P. FILMS, SCIB Paints, Godrej, Mahindra and Monginis. Indian companies are present in a range of sectors like technology, apparel, agriculture, chemicals, energy, automobiles, retail and others. Overall, these companies provide direct and indirect employment to approximately 35,000 Egyptians. Indian companies like L&T and Sterling & Wilson have also executed projects in Egypt, in energy and telecom sectors. Most of these Indian companies like TCI Sanmar also have additional investments in the pipeline. Science and Technology Co-Operation In the field of scientific cooperation, ICAR and the Agricultural Research Center of Egypt are working in the field of agricultural research. Science & Technology cooperation is implemented through biennial Executive Programmes and Scientific Cooperation Programme between CSIR (India) and NRC (Egypt). At present, the Indian community in Egypt numbers at around 3200, most of whom are concentrated in Cairo. There are also a small number of families in Alexandria, Port Said and Ismailia. DQ CHANNELS n February 2023 10 A CyberMedia Publication WOMEN IN IT To read exciting Women In IT log on to www.dqchannels.com Managing Bu siness with Smart Tec h DR ARCHANA VERMA [email protected] Zaiba Sarang, Co-founder, iThink Logistics, is trained in technology and business. Here she talks about her work, which is useful to IT partners supplying products across the country What are the new technological developments in AI in the Logistics segment? There are many technological developments in AI in the logistics segment. Some of them are described below – Artificial intelligence in automation technology changes many warehousing operations, e.g., data collection, inventory processes and more. AI is utilised to spot trends and make decisions in the supply chain so logistics firms can make necessary changes in their organizations which reduces human error and helps compile all reliable prognosis quickly. IoT in logistics results in the growth of various connections between goods, packaging, transportation hubs and vehicles. It offers more data that helps in managing various aspects. IoT when combined with blockchain technology may offer end-to-end visibility of packages. Transportation Management Systems (TMS) helps managing carriers and optimise route automation. It is useful for tracking delivery drivers in real-time, lowering freight expenses, increasing transparency and improving overall customer satisfaction scores. How do you keep updated with the ever-evolving AI? A lot of industrial research goes into keeping up with AI updates. Furthermore, we can refer to academic research conducted by universities such as Berkeley, MIT and Oxford via their Twitter, YouTube and podcast pages. What are the challenges in your role? How do you resolve them? The challenges that we face are the following – 1. Most rural areas have improper address structures. To address this issue, we have developed a technology capable of understanding and structuring a complex Indian address, which will identify incorrect or monkey-typed addresses and switch them with the correct ones to improve overall delivery rates. 2. Customer unconfirmed order raises the RTO percentage. We have a module that will assist the vendor in confirming with the customer before shipping any parcel and verifying the customer’s intent and sincerity to reduce RTO. 3. We came up with a procedure in which products are verified to ensure that the product sent by the vendor is accepted by the customer and that no counterfeit products are shipped. This will assist us in gaining the customer’s trust and establishing a better relationship. What are the prospects of growth in AI-enabled courier platforms in the next 2 years? According to Gartner, supply chain organisations expect the level of machine automation in their supply chain processes to double in the next five years. Thus, there is the need for the industry to leverage the power of the AI in supply chains and logistic. Driverless delivery – Driverless delivery is done through self-driving vehicles powered by LIDAR technology. These vehicles run on electricity and reduce transportation costs, ultimately increasing productivity. Risk detection/fraud prevention – The system helps businesses detect risks and prevent fraud. This significantly reduces the risk to the driver and the goods. Route optimisation – Using GPS technology, the system identifies the shortest and safest route to the customer’s location considering factors like traffic, number of stops and vehicle capacity. Here he talks about his work What is the adoption graph of Cloud-based CRM and HCM by the MSMEs in non-metro locations in the last 1 year through your organisation? The adoption rate for CentraHub products is 100%, as both our CRM and HCM are based on the cloud and operate on a SaaS model. We have around 20% of our customers who still operate on a perpetual model, especially in the UAE and India. We are already in the process of migrating them to the Cloud. What was your revenue growth % in the last 1 year? Revenue growth was 41% in the last 1 year. How cost-intensive are CRM and HCM for MSMEs? CRM and HCM implementation costs vary widely between organisations and there is really no set amount. However, it usually starts with the pricing scheme our customer chooses. We get more clarity once we discuss with them and get their detailed requirements. Based on the information, we prepare a budget for initial cost, cost per user, customisation and so on, which also helps us keep the project on track and the budget in check. Being transparent is our priority and we assure our clients that no hidden cost is involved. We always try to portray the true cost of CRM and HCM solutions before the implementation and stick to that unless the customers want to alter their requirements after the process begins. What challenges do you face in this field? How do you resolve them? MSMEs mostly need help with financial assistance, infrastructure and specialised skills. These are taken into account as we develop our CRM and HCM solutions. Our products run on a SaaS model and are subscription-based, so our customers are well-rested with any huge investment. They can select from our flexible pricing schemes per their requirements and budget. Since our CRM and HCM are based on the cloud, there are zero requirements for any advanced IT infrastructure. The systems could be accessed on any internet-connected device. This also resolves the challenge of having specialised skill sets. We take care of the technical issues of our customers, and they need not set up an in-house team to manage the CRM or HCM. things are changing slowly, women in India are rising NEWS CHANNEL Metaverse, AI and Supercloud among the Most Effective Business Trends in the Coming Future - Deloitte Report The trends that are likely to disrupt businesses in the next 2 years, include new opportunities in Metaverse, AI and Supercloud, says the Indian edition of Deloitte Tech Trends 2023 Report. A CyberMedia Publication 13 February 2023 n DQ CHANNELS For more about Partners Strategies, log on to www.dqchannels.com MARKET TRENDS SI Servic es Raise the Indian IT Servic es Market in 2022 DQC BUREAU [email protected] Continuing rise in digital transformation in India is giving the IT services a higher market share I t has been observed that the accelerated digital transformation is giving the SIs and other IT services providers greater opportunities to get business. This has given a greater rise in the IT services businesses in India, as more and more enterprises go for hybrid work environment, Cloud services, data management systems and other SaaS related services. According to IDC, of the IT & business services market, the IT Services market contributed 78.5% and grew by 8.1% in 2022 compared to the 7.3% growth in 2021. Further, as per IDC, the IT & Business Services market is poised to record strong growth in the upcoming years, as enterprises are expected to continue with their digital transformation investments and will not face a considerable impact due to the economic slowdown. The IT & Business Services market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 8.3% between 2021-2026 and reach US$ 20.5 billion by the end of 2026. IDC classifies the IT & Business Services market into three primary markets – Project-Oriented, Managed Services, and Support Services. For 1H2022, project-oriented services registered the highest growth rate at 8.1%, followed by managed services at 7.3%, and support services at 6.0% respectively. “Despite the ongoing global economic crisis and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Indian IT services market recorded robust growth as enterprises continued to increase their IT service investments to improve resiliency, increase customer satisfaction, accelerate product development, etc. Apart things are changing slowly, women in India are rising from digital transformation initiatives, there is also a rise in discretionary spending, as IT investments put on hold due to the pandemic have resumed. With investments in the cloud continuing to rise, enterprises also continue investing in data analytics and AI/ML for better decision making and IT security to improve their overall security posture,” said Harish Krishnakumar, Senior Market Analyst, IT Services, IDC India. “Traditional organizational boundaries are getting blurred with organizations adopting advanced technologies for seamless experiences and resiliency. Organizations are transforming their operating models to keep up with the changing business landscape and as a result demand for IT services is like never before. According to the IDC Future Enterprise Resiliency & Spending Survey Wave 2, March 2022 (India: n=50), more than 60% of Indian organizations plan to increase their budgets across all business and IT services contracted from professional service providers as a service provider can best support their business and IT. We see this trend continuing as Indian enterprises will look up to their service providers as they progress towards their goal of becoming a future enterprise,” said Neha Gupta, Senior Research Manager, Software and IT Services Market, IDC India. The managed services market is driven by the increased demand for hosted application management and hosting infrastructure services caused due to the rising adoption of cloud and colocation services. The project-oriented services market is driven by the demand for system integration services, and the demand for IT consulting services is also on the rise as enterprises try to ensure their IT investments are aligned with their desired business outcomes. Perhaps this is a cue to the Indian partner community that they should diversify into providing IT services to achieve business growth and counterbalance any business decline they may be facing.
DQ CHANNELS n February 2023 14 A CyberMedia Publication GUEST ARENA For more about Partners Strategies, log on to www.dqchannels.com How Digital Engineering will Evolve in the Next Two Years ANJI REDDY MARAM [email protected] Creating a digital culture that enables an organisation to not just withstand changes but also to metamorphose them into constructive, strategic possibilities Digital engineering has been evolving over the years. What started with digitising paper reports and optimising operations using software, networking and software-as-a-service, has grown to become a full-fledged new-age digital economy. While business leaders had been investing progressively in new technologies even before 2020, it cannot be denied that the global pandemic accelerated the trend of such investments in an unprecedented way. That said, if enterprise leaders do not see their digitisation efforts leading to measurable business advantages, something is amiss; and they have not truly transformed. Successful deployment of technologies should typically support creating a digital culture that enables an organisation to not just withstand changes but also to metamorphose them into constructive, strategic possibilities. And we will see more of this in the coming two years or so. These technologies are usually interconnected and, to some extent, interdependent. To know how they build a paradigm shift for a company, it is vital to understand digitisation’s significance, drivers and impact. Why Power Businesses Digitally? Beyond infrastructure modernisation and an increase in operational efficiencies, building a digital engineering-driven culture involves fostering a mindset of innovation, competitiveness and better stakeholder experience. Leading organisations prioritise investments in the technologies that allow them to – • Identify growth opportunities in new markets • Understand changing customer behaviours and preferences • Improve employee performance and productivity • Enhance the quality and utility of their products and services • Keep meeting new benchmarks in industry practices and compliance • Expedite time to market • Derive actionable insights for continuous business improvements Over the next couple of years, we expect CXOs to break through structural and human behavioural barriers and teams working at different levels across business functions communicate fluently about shared needs, address new risks, avoid redundant investments and optimise their processes at scale. As digital transformation will become a part of work culture, it will become easier to combine technologies in ways that offer more value than the sum total of their siloed functions. Eventually, this will bring new capabilities for the organization to evolve into the future. Drivers of digital transformation We expect that in the next couple of years, the focus will be on developing digital strategies linked to technical realities and workforce implications. In this context, the top drivers of digital transformation can be categorized into: Experiences – Frequent interactions with customers, employees, and other stakeholders within the business ecosystem will make it easier to choose technologies best suited to meet digitisation goals. Insights – Data analytics and evaluation of existing operating models will help design relevant business strategies for tech deployment. Connectivity – It will become critical to maintain links between business platforms, experiences, and insights, while also networking with other organizations and forums to drive strategic digital transformation. Integrity – The continual efforts to build a digital culture will be supplemented by measures for more robust cybersecurity, business continuity, resilience and ethical use of tech across all internal and customer-facing business processes and systems. Based on such drivers, we will see increased adoption of tools that can simplify operations, reduce costs, improve speed-to-market, and, most importantly, build better customer experiences. Disruptive technologies that are actively helping organizations meet such goals while also staying future-ready include cloud, AI-ML, IoT, robotic process automation, digital twin, AR-VR, smart wearables, edge computing and quantum computing, among others. What’s Next No company would want to wait for another predicament like the 2020 chaos to plan for its survival and growth. And even though some have forgotten the lessons learned during the pandemic, none can deny that the digital leaders were able to navigate through the crisis better than the laggards. Amidst an environment endangered by geopolitical and economic events such as the Russia-Ukraine war, impending recession in North America and growing cyber threats, companies need to buttress their digital transformation efforts today. Even though it is challenging to make accurate predictions and the future remains uncertain, organizations that have been making sincere efforts for progress in their growth journey should build their power to shift, adjust and react to changes with greater agility. And that is why they need to nurture their digital engineering practices.
