Providing Security

Manasi Saha, Founder and Owner, Macaws Infotech, Kolkata runs a business which
provides security to Cloud and Datacentres, in addition to other kinds of security
solutions. She discusses some aspects of her business

DR ARCHANA VERMA

[email protected]

How do you advise the Cloud and Datacentre remote security
to be managed?

In 2021 and beyond, we predict that cyber criminals will find new
and innovative ways to attack individuals, their homes and devices,
in order to find a path to your trusted corporate network. The global
pandemic has rapidly accelerated the existing shift toward remote

work, where employees operate beyond the protection of the
corporate firewall. In turn, hackers will exploit vulnerabilities found
in the gaps between people, their devices, and the corporate network.

Securing hybrid and remote work organisations needs the
following –
• Secure connectivity, so users can access resources from any
location; home, on-site, or in the office
• Protection for the devices used to make those connections –
desktops, laptops, mobile phones, and tablets etc
• Protection for the data and workloads that users need to access,
whether they’re in the cloud or on your local network.
• Simple management, so IT teams can manage their distributed
organisations from anywhere, without adding to their workload

How have you managed your business in the last one year?
It goes without saying that the COVID pandemic has had a

significant impact on all businesses and our IT software and
solutions business is no exception. While we were aware that it
would make a difference in the way we go about our business,
none of us were prepared for the scale and complexity of
disruption that the pandemic brought with it. It seemed like
the world just came to a standstill and the frequent lockdowns
only reinforced this fact. With the focus everywhere on
mobilising hospital infrastructure and healthcare workers to
cater to the ever-increasing number of positive cases, the last
thing on anyone’s mind was investing in IT software.
Being in Security business for over 22 years gave us
the confidence that we can face and overcome the current
challenge as we had done previously when faced with
different kind of challenges. Armed with the confidence
that there is a way out of this, we started looking at the
situation more as an opportunity than a setback. Thanks
to the existing systems and processes, which only had to
be tweaked to adapt to the current situation, the entire
business shifted to an online model in every aspect – sales
calls, pre-sales demos, negotiations, order processing,
delivery, installation, technical support, payments etc.
Our team realised that getting the work done was more
important than the location from where it was being done
and thus remote work became just another way to deliver
what the customer wanted. Customers recognised that
they too needed to make changes in their expectations
and co-operated with us to keep the business going. We
concentrated more on revenue and business continuity.

What has been your business strategy?
We increased our revenue growth by 20% in 2020-

21. Went for some strategical chances, calculative risk,
focused more on Cloud Security. Being with the customer,
helping them in their business continuity, working hand
on hand with the OEM. Having a technically sound

cybersecurity team.

markets of Europe and Africa, which the IT MSMEs can use to their benefit

DR ARCHANA VERMA

[email protected]

In what African markets have you worked? How profitable
are these African markets in terms of digital solutions and
platforms?

We work primary in South Africa and support the overall rollout
of tech and digital works across Southern and Eastern Africa. African
marketsare good for digital solutions/platforms,since they are adopting
straight to the digital era and very willing for connecting their citizens
with digital services.

What are the challenges of doing business in Africa?
A major challenge is a current scenario with Corona as travel

restrictions and uncertaintiesare looming. This is more so because it’s an
upcoming market, so outsourcing is still maturing. Besides, currency
fluctuation with USD is challenging.

How do you resolve these challenges?
We are covering most of the business discussion via our South

African entity, giving to locals a comfort and managing communication
via online means. Further, educating customers with outsourcing
benefits and hedging orders via ZAR, which is a South African
currency. Corona has opened new ways of engagement and
customers are more open to outsourcing.

What European markets are you familiar with?
How do you face the competition from the
European companies and other MNCs in
your segment?

We operate in the EU region via our Ireland,
UK, West Asia, India and Eastern European
business. We come across competition where

How do you compare the markets of Africa, Europe
and India in terms of customer expectations and
behaviour?

The African market is price sensitive, Europe is quality
driven and India is a mix of both. Thus,we try and balance
these factors while working with respective regions. In
doing so, the preferenceof African and the European market

Trend Micro Launches its First Cloud One Datacentre in India

Trend Micro has announced the launch of its Cloud One regional datacentre in India, to
uphold data sovereignty and safeguard data privacy in the country.

Cloud One is Trend Micro’s flagship cloud security services platform for protecting
servers, resources, and applications in the cloud. Trend Micro takes the lead by becoming
one of the first security vendors to have the broadest set of services around cloud security,
delivered out of India. This move follows Trend Micro’s launch of its regional XDR data lake
in India last year.

Owing to the agility that cloud brings, organisations are increasingly embracing it, making
SaaS the preferred model for security solutions delivery. However, many customers face
regulatory or policy-based concerns around the location of SaaS platforms or data storage for
their workloads. Having a datacentre within the country improves compliance and reduces
friction for guidance and reporting requirements.

Speaking on the launch, Vijendra Katiyar, Country Manager, India & SAARC, Trend
Micro said, “India is a significant market for us and to reinforce our commitment towards our
customers in India, we have launched Trend Micro Cloud One data center for India region. It helps simplify cloud security for our vast clientele – especially in BFSI,
government and other regulated sectors.”
