Letter from Jim Brown, CEO
I would like to take a moment and offer a heart-felt thank you to everyone who is
working extra shifts, carrying a patient load in excess of what you normally would, or who
is working outside of your normal scope such as screening or in donning and doffing.
These circumstances have stretched us and have demanded flexibility. I am extremely
proud of the resilience that I have witnessed in our team.
While volume surges and colleagues infected with this virus have strained our resources, I
do urge you to find those moments where you can rest. While we’ve been at this a long
time now, much still lies ahead of us. To the extent that you can, please take care of
yourself physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Thank you again for stepping up to meet the needs of our community. Please let me
know what we can do to continue to protect you. I continue to pray for your health as
well as the well-being of your families.

Resilience In Action, Kelli Nations
“While speaking to the patient, EYJ6675
she learned the patient was
initially scheduled to be
discharged, but some lab work
had presented new obstacles
causing her stay to be prolonged.
Already knowing the patient did
not wish to watch television
anymore, Bard recalled an earlier
conversation where the patient
expressed missing her family and
pets.
To cheer her up, Bard purchased
the patient a stuffed animal, to
remind her of her pets. Pleasantly
surprised, Bard’s patient smiled
from ear to ear! “All it took was for
me to take a few moments each
day to visit, empathize, and listen,”
said Bard. “I also helped her to
FaceTime with her family, too.
Although, stuffed animals are
generally for our pediatric
patients, sometimes you’re never
too old to find comfort in a
cuddle.”

Contest Information
(EVS) staff are essential in providing a clean and safe environment for all staff, patients and visitors at healthcare facilities. They play a crucial role in
cleaning and sanitizing public and private areas, including patient rooms, to eliminate viruses, germs and hospital-acquired infections, yet these unsung
heroes are often overlooked.
Every day, EVS personnel across the country work on the frontlines to create a healthy and safe environment for patients, staff, volunteers and visitors,
and Cintas is recognizing these healthcare heroes with the Cintas C.A.P.E. Award (Cleaning to Advance the Patient Experience). Cintas is on a mission to
identify acute care EVS techs who display kindness and courage, and spend countless hours maintaining facilities to prevent infection.
Healthcare professionals, family members and others are invited to nominate EVS technicians with inspiring stories for the chance to win a cash prize and
a donation to their healthcare institution or charity of choice. Nominees must be 18 years or older and have been employed for a minimum of one year
with the same acute healthcare facility (e.g., hospital, home health care). PVU7021
