Letter from Jim Brown, CEO
Thank you to all who have taken time to attend one of our quarterly Town
Halls. As of today, over 600 members of our team have joined. Mandatory
attendance marks a change for our hospital. I will do these twice a year as
I believe face time with each of you is critically important, especially during
these unique times. I will continue with other quarterly Towns Halls that
will not be mandatory. Additionally, we will continue with our Friday
morning virtual Town Halls every other week. These events, coupled with
monthly department meetings, and this newsletter should keep you
abreast of exciting new developments. My goal is to communicate with
you often to address what seems to be an ever-changing environment.
Thank you again for taking time to join me.

Yvette Miller, Med. Surg. 2, Unit Secretary
“My name is Yvette Miller and I started my journey as a Unit Secretary here
on MS2 almost 6 years ago. I chose this position because I love dealing with
people and being in this environment allows me to interact and possibly
make a family member, employee, or anyone who walks by my desk, smile or
give a little encouragement to, in their time of need. Being in this position
can be challenging at times when you see loved ones sad or hurt, when they
are going through a loss, but being able to give that quality care to our
patients can make a world of difference in someone's life and I know this first
hand. I recently lost my Mother at the end of January 2021 and it absolutely
made me feel content in knowing that her nurses and staff members went
above and beyond during my Mother’s stay at the hospital and made her as
comfortable as possible. Caring and going above and beyond is something
that is engrained in my heart and I will always be forever blessed to possibly
be able to be the light in someone else's life.” - Yvette

“Who am I behind the mask? It was an emotional roller coaster year, but we as
a team survived, or still surviving, this pandemic with the help of our
colleagues, who devoted their time despite of fear of getting infected and
giving it to our family, especially to the vulnerable ones. As a healthcare
personnel, my biggest fear happened to me last December. I got the Covid
infection, despite following the safety measures. However, thanks to the
practice I experienced in the hospital working with our Covid patients, I
initiated same measures at home so my family did not get infected, especially
my husband who has immunocompromised illness. I can say I am a survivor
and I was able to understand my patient’s difficulties better. If I will have a
chance to choose my profession again, I will still choose this path and become
a healthcare personnel to help our patients and be able to lessen their
sufferings and be able to assist them in returning to their families. WE are all
heroes behind our mask and be able to make a difference.” – Geraldine

“A year ago, I had no idea what to expect from this
pandemic, nobody did. So when things at home and Jonathan Keels, Security
work started to get hard, I really needed to find what
inspires me as an individual. Naturally, I'm a driven “Everyday that I come
and spontaneous person. But Covid-19 added into work I see the
restrictions to my 'reset button'. So I looked for ways dedication and care
to release stress and relax, whether it was reading the that our nursing staff,
Bible, journaling, or just spending much needed time as well as employees
with loved ones; Or when at work, eating lunch at the from all departments,
lake and watching the ducks. I looked for small things show to patients and
in life to appreciate. If we don't focus on the little family members. This is
good we have, we will miss out on life. Instead of the inspiration that I
thinking that I lost a year of my youth, I started to use to show up to work
reflect on what I learned through the year. Helping everyday and offer the
the sick at work was definitely a satisfying sacrifice I staff and patients the
would gladly do again, after all, I still have my health best level of protection
and someone has to show up at work and do it. So that I and our team of
working along side others that feel that way and have Courtesy Officers can
that same spirit has made things a lot easier. If I provide.” - Jonathan
learned one thing this past year, it would be courage,
kindness, and a personal new scope of introspection. 7
With that, I am determined to do my absolute best to
contribute to this new year ahead of us all.” - Alia

“Jason Ogden took exceptional care of me. He was friendly,
professional, and provided me with step-by-step
instructions and set expectations so I never had to
question any hows or whys during my CT Scan with

and told me that only great patients earn stickers. He
helped calm fears, whether he realized it or not. Jason

A “Great Catch” is an event or circumstance that has the potential to cause
harm to a patient but never reaches the patient due to the actions of a staff
member. These type of events are encouraged to be reported by placing an
event in Meditech. Each month, these are reviewed and one is chosen to
receive the “Great Catch Award”. All staff members are responsible for
patient safety standards but this award recognizes a staff member that
demonstrates an exceptional commitment to patient safety.

“Good Morning. Wanted to contact you and say a few 27
nice comments about your OUTSTANDING program and
staff on the 6th Floor at North Cypress. I would like to start
off by saying that Celeste is wonderful, kind, caring,
professional, sugar and spice and everything nice! She
made me feel welcomed and like family when I attended
the program. The rest of the staff, and especially Kiersten
(my favorite) were just as SUPERB!!!! Wonderful, fabulous,
super-friendly, kind, caring, etc. Scheduling was easy,
class was always fun, and they were always very attentive
and on top of things… Constantly moving around taking
blood pressures, temp checks, helping with equipment,
etc. Super-efficient program that works, and really helped
me get back to normal faster than I thought I would. I felt
a little nervous in the beginning (having 4 and eventually 6
stents), but they gave me confidence that life would
return to normal. And it did!!!! AMEN!!! I am back to
regular exercise, and I OWE it to Celeste and her
staff. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!” - HCA NC Patient
