2 About HCA Healthcare

Letter from Jim Brown, CEO

We recently learned that we
were voted Cypress’ “Best
Hospital” in a survey by Living
Magazine. We are grateful for
this recognition. I believe this
is a testament to our “care like
family” culture and the new services that we have
brought to our community. Our reputation is critically
important and this was validation that our community
values what we do for them. Congratulations on this
well-deserved honor!

Letter from Troy Villarreal, GCD CEO

Dear HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division Colleagues and Medical Staff,

Recent waves of violence across the country are impacting all aspects of our community, including common areas of society such as malls,
grocery stores, healthcare facilities and schools. Although most community spaces have security, police resources and controlled access,
these locations still have areas of vulnerability.

HCA Healthcare and HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division have taken a number of precautions and put several protections into place to help
ensure the safety of every colleague and every patient who enters our facilities.

In partnership with local and regional public safety agencies, we each play a critical role in the safety of ourselves and the safety of those around us by staying
alert and speaking up in the event of a potentially violent situation.

HCA Alert is HCA Healthcare’s communication system used to confirm the safety of colleagues in the event of an emergency. It provides urgent information on
situations, including natural disasters, security threats, office closings or network outages impacting areas where our colleagues live and work. To ensure your
mobile device is registered to receive emails, texts or phone calls in the event of an emergency from the HCA Alert system, visit HCAhrAnswers.com and type
the keyword: HCA Alert.

If you have questions regarding the safety and security of your facility, reach out to your director or a member of your facility’s security department.

Thank you for your continued commitment to the care and improvement of human life.

Sincerely,

Troy Villarreal 4
HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division President

Congratulations to our
Towne Lake team!

Recently, our Towne Lake campus had its biennial survey
inspection for COLA Accreditation. COLA inspectors
conduct a straight-forward, objective survey of laboratories,
assisting them with compliance and understanding of
Federal (CLIA) and COLA standards to ensure quality
patient care. Our patient care teams at Towne Lake knocked
the survey out the park!! The great performance on this
survey shows the phenomenal teamwork between nursing,
laboratory, and our physicians to make sure we are delivering
quality care to our community, one patient at a time.

Take a look at how our Towne Lake team compared against
other laboratories with a similar number of annual tests!

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF NURSING

Please join us as we celebrate Susan Fogarty’s 50th year as a nurse! Susan graduated from
UT Austin in May of 1972. She then took her first job at Baptist Women’s and Children’s
Hospital in Beaumont, TX. She was their very first 11-7 OB float! Susan went on to work for
an ENT physician for 2 years until his retirement. Her next role would lead her to work for
Shoal Creek Psych Hospital for 2 years which she absolutely loved! Susan then took the
next step in her life, which thankfully moved her to her new forever city Houston, Texas.
She then worked for Spring Branch Medical Center for 33 years! 25 of those years in L&D, 4
years in surgery, and 4 years in PAT! After her amazing career at Spring Branch, Susan
made her to way to North Cypress Medical Center (NCMC). Susan has called NCMC, now
HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress home for the past 12 years. Susan’s team adores
her and is so thankful she is a part of their team. Please join us in congratulating Susan on
such an amazing accomplishment!

What I’ve noticed about how nursing has changed:
Together we have educated the profession of nursing to be the most admired
according to numerous surveys of the public over the years.
If we stop to think of the lives we’ve touched and the lives we’ve changed it can be
overwhelming. If I could have anything in “my life review” at the end; I would want all
the babies I delivered-and all the children they had as adults, all gather in one place-
tot so they could thank me, but so I could thank them for helping make my life one of
purpose.© 2020. CONFIDENTIAL – Contains proprietary information. Not intended for external distribution.

Dear HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division Colleagues and Medical Staff:

June is Pride Month. We are proud to celebrate alongside our LGBTQ+ colleagues, patients, communities and
allies. At HCA Healthcare, our goal is to foster an environment where everyone feels respected and welcome.
Promoting diverse voices and perspectives is key to creating compassionate places of care.

Inclusion, compassion, and equality play a critical role in HCA Healthcare’s mission to care and improve human

Hospital Updates – In the News…

HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress becomes first area
hospital to perform robotic lung biopsy

HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress made history after diagnosing lung cancer using a robotic lung biopsy, becoming the first
hospital in the northwest Houston area to perform the procedure.
The minimally invasive procedure has the potential to yield better patient outcomes through earlier diagnosis.
“Early diagnosis is critical in the treatment and survival of lung cancer. We are excited to provide our patients advanced
technology that can enhance the level of care they receive,” said Jim Brown, chief executive officer at HCA Houston Healthcare
North Cypress.

The hospital used robot assisted technology to perform a biopsy on a patient to diagnose their potential lung cancer.
The robot uses a thin catheter that moves 180 degrees in all directions, allowing doctors to reach masses in the lung while
passing through tight spaces. The biopsy is precise and more comfortable for patients.
“This is a newer technology that is beginning to be utilized worldwide as a less invasive way to get patients a diagnosis and treat
them sooner,” Jesse Onyenekwe, a pulmonologist at HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress, said. “The procedure offers
doctors unprecedented stability enabling the precision needed for biopsy far into the peripheral lung to diagnose lung cancer
early. We know early treatment is critical in lung cancer treatment. Less invasive procedures also yield a quicker recovery.”
Onyenekwe performed a CT scan on the patient, creating a 3D model of the patient’s airways. After detecting possible lesions,
the camera on the robotic surgery equipment is used by the surgeon to navigate the lungs. The surgeon then retrieves the tissue
for the biopsy.

Onyenekwe said the robot lets them access difficult to reach areas of the lungs through the mouth or other natural openings of
the body. “Prior to this advanced procedure, the preferred method to reach abnormal in the periphery of the lung was to use a
live CT scan image and a needle, entering the chest wall and lung from outside the body; this presents a risk of injuring the lung
tissue and causing the lung to collapse for some patients who had advanced lung disease with emphysema,” Onyenekwe said.
Not only is the procedure safer the for the patient, but it also allows the surgeon diagnose patients earlier by accessing smaller
lesions. “Tissue diagnosis is still essential to tumor diagnosis and treatment.,” Onyenekwe said. “With the assistance of a robot,
we can navigate further into the lung with more precision. The purpose of this procedure is primarily to get a diagnosis. With this
latest technology, we can get a diagnosis a lot sooner than traditional means.”

Hospital Updates- In the News…

Community Impact Newspaper

Dr. Jesse Onyenekwe, a pulmonologist at HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress, performed the
first robotically assisted lung biopsy procedure in the northwest Houston region May 11,
according to a May 27 news release.

The equipment used offers more precision and enables doctors to more easily diagnose lung
cancer in its early stages, officials said. This is made possible by the robot’s thin catheter with the
ability to move 180 degrees in all directions; paired with it is a flexible biopsy needle that is used
to collect tissue samples from the peripheral lung, according to the release.

“Early diagnosis is critical in the treatment and survival of lung cancer. We are excited to provide
our patients advanced technology that can enhance the level of care they receive,” HCA North
Cypress CEO Jim Brown said in a statement.

The robot can also access difficult portions of the lung through natural openings such as the
mouth, officials said. To ease the navigation of the catheter and ensure a safe procedure, a CT
scan is performed and used to create a three-dimensional pathway that is virtually displayed next
to a live feed of camera footage from inside the lung. The virtual imagery provides a reference
point for doctors as they navigate each patient’s lung.

Prior to this procedure, live CT scan images were displayed as doctors inserted a needle through
the chest wall and lung from the outside of the body. This older procedure posed a risk of
damaging lung tissue or causing lung collapse for patients with advanced lung disease with
emphysema, according to the release.

“This innovative technology helps with our fight against lung cancer by using a robotic-assisted
minimally invasive bronchoscope to parts of the lung that were not previously accessible,"
Onyenekwe said in the release.

A patient was scheduled for an MRI, but due to her stents, the exam could not be
performed at Towne Lake. The patient was then referred to POB II. She was very
concerned about completing her exam due to claustrophobia but the patient
mentioned “it was such a breeze. The technician was great and you all just did
everything you could to try to get it done for me. And I just can’t say how much I
