Letter from Jim Brown, CEO

Thank you to each of you who took the time to complete the recent Glint Engagement Survey. We
had 775 respondents which represents a very healthy 61% response rate. When we first took this
survey in May, we had a very low 18% response rate. As such, I view this recent survey a
representative baseline for the cultural health of our hospital. Your responses have provided great
insights into what we can do to make this a great place to work.

Our Engagement Index, derived from the questions of whether or not we enjoy your work and
whether or not we’d recommend this as a place to work, scored 73. This is down from our previous
survey and below the Division average. Needless to say this is disappointing.

The areas for which we scored most favorably were Manager and Patient Focus. These results were
very pleasing to me for two reasons. First, whether or not we have a healthy working relationship
and respect for our immediate supervisor is the #1 determinant of whether or not we will stay in a
job. We should be able to leverage these relationships for strong retention. Secondly, it is very
important that we keep our patients at the center of our decision making. This allows each of us to
better subscribe to the hospital’s direction. Despite our challenges and changes, it’s reassuring to
see that we collectively believe that we are making a concerted effort to do what is right by our
patients.

While we are working to refine our formal action plan, the areas on which it appears that we will
focus are departmental communication, nurse/tech staffing shortages, and availability of basic
supplies.

Over the next 90 days, I will be scheduling visits with most departments to review hospital-wide
results, department results, and action plans for both hospital and the individual department.

In conclusion, I do want to recognize those areas that scored most favorably.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT HIGHLIGHTS

North Cypress employees have a history of generously providing Christmas
gifts to children in the community through Cypress Assistance Ministries
(C.A.M). This year we will continue that tradition, but in addition, we will help
our own employees who may have difficulty providing gifts for their children
at Christmas.

Angel ornaments have been placed on the Christmas tree in the Main
Hospital Lobby outside of the gift shop. These ornaments will have the age
and gender of the child and some ideas of what they are wishing for. There
will be a table with a list of children needing gifts near the tree. Please write
your name and ¾ ID next to the child you would like to provide a gift for and
take that child’s ornament off the tree.

If you need assistance with Christmas gifts for your children, please complete
an application from HR or from your Director and submit to Monica or Elise in
Human Resources. Applications must be submitted to HR by December 6th
and gifts must be picked up by December 20th. Employees seeking
assistance will be kept confidential.

Red angel gifts need to be submitted to HR by December 18th.
Green angel gifts need to be submitted to HR by December 12th.

We ask that all gift donations are left unwrapped. Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Did you do this today? Lets do this EVERY day!

Begin your day with a SMILE! Smile with your coworkers. Smile with your patients and
family members. Smile with your doctors. Share a smile and see how contagious it can
truly be!

Empty those machines! Hand sanitizers have been added throughout the facility! It’s
time to empty them. Use them between every patient encounter. Clean hands mean
less germs for our patients and for you!

Respect privacy! Refrain from talking about patient information in open areas. If it is
unavoidable, speak in a soft tone. Patients and visitors are educated and the first to tell
you about a HIPAA violation. Don’t share patient information freely.

Introduce yourself! You’ve worked hard for your title and your role in this facility so make
sure to introduce yourself by name and title with every patient/family visit.

Reiterate SAFETY! Hospitals can be confusing, scary, and there are a lot of uncertainties.

Helping a patient feel safe offers them reassurance and comfort. IRD6678
