2 About HCA Healthcare
Letter from Jim Brown, CEO
North Cypress Family,
From Monday, October 3 through Monday, October 17, you will have the opportunity to
complete the semiannual Vital Voices Engagement Survey. You should receive an e-mail link for
this survey and it will take five to ten minutes to complete.
Your feedback is very important in helping make North Cypress a great place to work. We are
benchmarked against other hospitals based on responses to the questions “How happy are you
working at your organization?” and “I would recommend my organization as a great place to
work” I hope that you can answer these questions positively. Our May results were very
. positive I hope that we are sustaining that progress.
There are eight categories which are surveyed. The more specific you can be in your scoring and your suggestions the
more helpful the survey is in our planning. Written comments are encouraged and I review all of them. Your feedback is
helpful in my review and support of each of our department leaders, so as you reflect on your responses please be mindful
of how your manager or director work to support you.
For those completing the survey on the first day, we will again raffle some very desirable prizes. Thank you for taking time
to provide us with your feedback.

Morgan Smith-Nelson, CT Tech
Great Catch Award Nominee: On September 1, Morgan performed a PE study on an ED
Dr. Jake Valentine patient who was experiencing shortness of breath. During the
scan, she saw an aortic abnormality that she escalated to an
(Emergency Medicine) ED physician (Dr. Valentine). Rather than calling, she walked to
and the physician documentation area to relay this information in
person. Morgan discussed this with Dr. Valentine because the
Dr. Emmanuel Oke ordering physician was running a code blue at the time. Dr.
(ED Medical Director) Valentine reviewed the images alongside Morgan and
immediately ordered another scan of the aorta with additional
contrast which illuminated a type A aortic dissection with
extension into the pericardial space with small effusion. The
patient was started on Cardene and Esmolol and AirLife was
called before the CT scan had been formally resulted. The
patient was transported in stable condition and underwent
surgery. Morgan’s competence and confidence allowed for
the rapid diagnosis and treatment of this life-threatening
condition.
