April 2021

Letter from Jim Brown, CEO

I want to take a moment and thank Julia Poirier for her service to our hospital. Since completing her administrative
residency with HCA Gulf Coast Division, she has worked as our Associate Administrator. For the last 15 months, Julia
has supported Dialysis, Sports Medicine, Non-invasive Cardiac Testing, Respiratory Therapy, Cardiac Rehab, Wound
Care, Sleep Lab, and served as our liaison to division marketing. In addition to her formal duties, she has also been
instrumental in our COVID-19 response coordinating screeners and managing internal communications. Julia has
been presented the opportunity of a broader role at HCA Pearland. I am excited to see Julia continue to grow
professionally, but will miss her day-to-day contribution to our team. Julia’s last day at North Cypress is April 9.

In March, Naman Mahajan concluded his tenure as our Chief Operating Officer. Naman joined our team with the
closure of Cy-Fair. Naman served as CEO of Cy-Fair following HCA’s acquisition of that facility. Prior to acquisition, he
served as Cy-Fair’s COO. Naman has rejoined Tenet Healthcare and relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona.

At present, a search is underway for our next Chief Operating Officer. I expect to conclude this search in the coming
weeks. We will not immediately replace the position that Julia is vacating. In the absence of Julia and Naman, their
responsibilities will be temporarily reassigned to me, Jamie Hons, and Brittany Lollis until our new COO starts in that
role. I appreciate your patience in the interim.

Transitions such as these always present an opportunity to reevaluate our progress and the performance of our
team. We have come a long way in the last two and a half years. For example, it was recently published that we’ve
elevated to an HCA clinical quality rank of 81, improved from a starting point of 156. I am very pleased with how our
leadership team is working together. With the addition of a new COO and some modest tweaks to responsibilities, I
believe we are well positioned for our next chapter.

Yvonne Yaw – EVS

“Do you know Yvonne Yaw? Maybe you do but you just don’t realize it
because she is quiet yet focused and because she doesn’t wish to
disturb anyone. Yvonne is presently assigned the MS6 Covid Floor
where she works diligently through the unit, ensuring that each area
is clean, tidy, and safe, for our patients and employees. She is an
extremely hard worker and she is always pleasant and friendly and
takes considerable pride in everything that she does. She has worked
at HCA N. Cypress for 3 years and when she isn’t at work, Yvonne
enjoys making perfume, spending time with her adored family
members, and helping others. Her motto is “Treat others the way you
would like to be treated.” This is a wonderful motto and one that she
certainly lives by. We are proud of the work that you do and
appreciate you, Yvonne!” – Story by Karen Bard

Allison Villarreal, MS6 HUC

When you work at HCA N. Cypress, it feels like family. You laugh together, you cry
together, you share personal stories of accomplishments and challenges, and
more. Allison Villarreal has been a HUC on MS6 for the last 6 ½ years. She keeps the
unit well decorated for each and every holiday to maintain the home-like, fun
atmosphere and to ensure everyone feels festive. She plays a vital role in stocking
supplies of PPE, answering call bells, and assisting Maria, MS6 Manager, with the day
to day operations of the unit.

When Allison’s family is ill, she knows exactly where to take them. From 2019-2020,
her husband, Manuel, was on MS6 twice; Her mother-in-law and father-in-law have
each paid a visit; and 2 of her 3 daughters underwent day surgery
procedures. Periodically, her husband wants to say a heartfelt thank you to the unit
staff, so on March 3rd he asked everyone working what they would like to have for
lunch and quickly delivered their request of fajitas. If this is not a great example of
“Care Like Family” then what is?

We appreciate all that you do, Allison, and from our HCA N. Cypress Family to yours,
we thank you for allowing us to care for your most valuable assets…your loved ones!

Med. Surg. 2 Care Team

Ms. Helen Taylor, 82 years young, had a very important request
of her grand-daughter, Tiffani, and that was to find the biggest
and prettiest flowers possible. Ms. Taylor has spent 5 days on
Med Surg 2 at HCA N. Cypress and she could not be happier
with the care that she received. “They treated me like
family…coming when I called, rubbing my back and feet to
reduce my pain, sitting and talking with me and I have felt so
much love here. So today, Tiffani rolled up to the unit with the
most beautiful, colorful and HUGE, basket of flowers for the
staff to enjoy. When the lady at the flower shop asked, “is this
big enough?” Tiffani was quick to respond, “Bigger!” Ms.
Taylor is discharging today to hospice care but she has one
message for our team, “The Lord put me here, with wonderful,
caring, beautiful people. I am sad to go but God has a plan for
me. Thank you for the love and tenderness you showed me. I
will never forget any of you.” Story by Karen Bard

I wanted to commend Ashley Calvin and Nicole Ortega for
going above and beyond for a 30 year old patient
requiring dialysis. They worked daily and tirelessly to assist
this patient in a facility placement, accommodating multiple
family meetings to ensure all were well informed. They
went above and beyond their call of duty to ensure this
patient was taken care of and I'm happy to report that this
patient is currently doing well.

More than doing their required job - what stood out the
most was the compassion and empathy they showed
towards the patient and family.

Thank you. Rajiv Lal, MD

HOSPITAL CELEBRATIONS

Occupational Therapy Month

Occupational Therapists help people across the
lifespan to do the things they want and need to
do through the therapeutic use of daily
activities (occupations). Occupational therapy
practitioners enable people of all ages to live
life to its fullest by helping them promote
health, and prevent—or live better with—injury,
illness, or disability. Occupational therapists
help to prepare patients for safe discharge, and
provide patient and family training to modify
activities to promote safety and independence.
HCA North Cypress provides Occupational
Therapy services in both the inpatient and
outpatient settings.

More Flexibility for Flexible Spending Account Participants

In accordance with the Taxpayer Certainty and Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2020, HCA Healthcare has adopted the following voluntary changes to provide more
flexibility to Health Care FSA and Day Care FSA participants.

Making Changes During the Year
You may change your 2021 FSA elections by calling BConnected on or before Oct. 31, 2021 to: Start, increase, decrease or stop your Health Care FSA
contributions. However, you may not reduce your benefit elections below the amount already reimbursed to you before you request the change.
Start, increase, decrease or stop your Day Care FSA contributions. If you elect to stop your contributions, the plan will turn off your contributions going forward.
However, the plan is not able to refund contributions you made prior to your election change. Such amounts will remain available for reimbursement of eligible
Day Care FSA expenses.

All election changes will be effective the date the election change request is made.

Unused 2020 Health Care FSA Amounts: All unused amounts (including amounts above $550) remaining in your Health Care FSA as of Dec. 31, 2020, may be
carried over and used for reimbursement of eligible expenses incurred during the 2021 plan year. You may access up to $550 in carryover funds to pay for eligible
expenses from January 1 to April 15, 2021 period. Effective beginning April 16, you may also access carryover 2020 funds in excess of $550.

Unused 2020 Day Care FSA Amounts: Unused amounts remaining in your Day Care FSA as of Dec. 31, 2020, may be used to reimburse eligible Day Care FSA
expenses you incur from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2021. These amounts may be used to reimburse eligible expenses incurred during the 2021 plan year for the care of a
dependent under the age of 14.
