Let t er from J im Brow n, CEO 3 HCA North Cypress, Earlier this year, HCA North Cypress transitioned the management of Food and Nutrition Services to Sodexo, an industry leader in this area. I wanted to take a moment to commend our local leadership team of Kara Fulmer and Kyle Blue for the positive changes they have already implemented. If you have visited the café, you’ve experienced improvements in the menu offerings as well as in appearance and organization. For our providers, they too have experienced improvements in the physician’s dining room. I am also seeing this team work more closely with clinical leaders as we collectively work to improve patient experience. While FANS has historically done a good job for this facility, it’s great to see them upping their game.

I am pleased to announce that Miranda Roberson will serve as our new Vice President of Human Resources. She formally assumed this role on June 26. Miranda served as Director of Medical Staff Services. We have commenced a search for her replacement in that area. Miranda began her HCA North Cypress career in Human Resources in 2016 as a HR Coordinator. She worked in Administration from late 2018 to late 2020 where she supported me and our CFO, Bryan Shepherd, and was responsible for physician contracts and other complex projects. In December of 2020, we asked Miranda to assume the role of Director of Medical Staff Services. In each role that Miranda has performed, she has excelled. She has demonstrated a tireless work ethic, conscientiousness, and the ability to quickly learn and master new responsibilities. For those who have worked with Miranda, she is collaborative and service-oriented. Miranda earned her Bachelor of Science in Management with concentration in Human Resources from University of Houston – Clear Lake. She completed her MBA at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. CHA5713 See Something, Say Something If you see a safety issue or hear from a patient or staff member about a safety issue or care concern ALWAYS escalate these concerns for timely resolution. Here is the escalation pathway when care concerns arise: 1. Always escalate to your direct supervisor (example: CNC/charge nurse or resource nurse). 2. If unable to resolve with your direct supervisor, contact your unit Manager/Director or AD if after hours. 3. The Manager/Director or AD will escalate the concern to the Administrator on-call (CNO, CEO, CMO, etc.), if unable to resolve. 4. Your patient safety team (Ashley Burriss- PSD, Michelle Marshall- PSM, and Junnius Pollard- VPQ) are happy to help as well and are best notified by placing an event in VigiLanz and/or by contacting us directly. Patient safety is a team effort and we want to help! My husband and I make mead with the honey. Favorite HCA Memory: So many to choose from, but the most memorable is a patient who had such an improved quality of life after having her knee replacement she was able to take her grandchildren on a vacation and walk with them on the beach. Favorite color: Purple Favorite quote: “Happiness will never come to those who fail to appreciate what they already have.” - Buddha Hobbies: gardening, baking macaron and cake Interesting Fact: I was born prematurely, 28-weeks, in a sinkhole where my mom fell into. According to my mom, my skin was pale and I didn’t make my first cry. People thought my chance of survival was very low. 15 GETTING TO KNOW YOUR HCA NORTH CYPRESS EMPLOYEE Irene Arroyo-Melendez, MSN, RN, CNC MS6 Family: I have been blessed with four grown children, a seven-yearold daughter and double blessed with three grandchildren. Favorite Color: I am from a small island in the Caribbean, so I love color, especially orange and teals. Favorite Quote: “We are the light in institutional darkness, and in this model, we get to return to the light of our humanity” JEAN WATSON Hobbies: Crafting/Painting/Traveling/Camping at the Beach Interesting Fact: I was born in Puerto Rico and my journey through life has taken me to live back home but also in Boston, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas. Favorite HCA Memory: The caring and assistance offered to the employees during the Covid-10 pandemic was absolutely astounding. During this time, I was an employee at HCA Methodist in San Antonio and while the other Hospital Systems were letting go of employees due to low census, we were able to keep ours. In a time of so much uncertainty and devastation the messages we received from Mr. Sam Hazen during the pandemic were encouraging to say the least. PEOPLE 16 STELLAR SHOUT-OUTS TO THESE EMPLOYEES! HCA North Cypress Team Members! My name is Dawn. I am a CT Tech at the Cyfair FSED location. I have been with the company for the past 20 years and a tech for the past 30. I just wanted to commend Joanna for the excellent service she provided me this morning during my MRI. I cannot believe I turned into “one of those patients” as soon as she slide me into the machine. This was my first time having an MRI and I literally started to panic. I felt extremely foolish for doing so. She gave me the time at the start for each sequence. She allowed me to take a break during my Lspine to use the restroom. She readjusted my knee that began cramping, removed the covers when I felt too confined and did it all with reassurance. I felt way more at ease when it was time for the scan of my brain. When we are on the other side of giving care, we as healthcare workers can sometimes be the worst patients. We forget what it is like to experience something for the first time. Joanna handled me with grace, kindness and compassion, for which I am very grateful. Without that, I would have had to delay my own care and reschedule. After checking my echart for my report, I am so thankful I was able to proceed, because now I have answers to a portion of my problem.
