MERDU PUISI MALAY ART SONGS RECITAL Soprano: Khairunnisa Diyana Md Noor Piano: Tengku Hadif
PROGRAM Art Song is a genre of composition for voice accompanied by piano and is in the style of classical music. It was introduced in the 17th century and has been sung in various languages, known as "lieder" in German and "Chasons" in French. The use of poetry as the text is highly synonymous with Art Song compositions. In Malaysia, the Art Song genre is not widely used; therefore, this recital aims to introduce the Art Song genre to the Malaysian community and promote interest in poetry writing. For this recital, a total of 7 Malay Art Song compositions will be presented. Among the composers involved are Tazul Tajuddin, Alia Farahin, Marzelan Salleh, Yusran Yusuff, and Alwagera. By incorporating Malay-language poetry into Art Song compositions, this recital provides an opportunity to appreciate the local language and culture through a different musical medium. Each composer brings their unique perspective and touch, allowing the audience to experience the diversity of artistic creativity in Malaysian music.
