New Member Flavia and I met by chance almost nine years ago, here in Lighthouse
Point, and we married about a year and a half later. Flavia can tell you
Spotlight the real story over drinks; the details are always more fun! We love the
warm weather and year-round opportunity to spend time outdoors
Flavia & Martin Lehtio swimming, scuba diving, and biking. I am an avid golfer and enjoy the
links here in South Florida and in the mountains of Colorado, where we
spend parts of our summer most years. We are both addicted to living
healthily and exercising, and you can find us most mornings at the local
Orange Theory Fitness in Lighthouse Point.
Flavia was born in Santos, Brazil, and moved to Sao Paolo when she was
17. She is an interior decorator by trade, and she also studied nutrition
for several years before becoming a full-time mom, selling her business,
and moving to Florida. Flavia speaks three languages, has the fastest
dance feet you’ve ever seen, and will jump at any adrenaline-filled
experience you can come up with! She loves fashion, but she loves food
even more!
I am the eldest of 3 sons, born into a military family, and have lived
abroad for a good part of my life in Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines. I
was born in the United States, but not in a State, get it? I spent most of
my formative years living in countries where I was a guest and learned
to truly appreciate all the “goodness” we have here in ours. Some people
don’t seem to understand the privilege it is of being an American. My
mother was from Taiwan, and I lived in Taipei for six years during
elementary school, an experience I could only hope to give my children.
I love almost any kind of competitive sport, whether golf, bowling, darts,
a game of chess, or chugging a beer, but my passion is classic cars,
especially the Bow-Ties. I am a dad to four grown children, all off the
payroll, and I’m happy to say, living on their own!
Our passion for working out at the Orange Theory Fitness studio turned
into a business venture for us about five years ago when we were lucky
enough to find our way into a franchise opportunity and opened an
Orange Theory studio in West Palm Beach. Since then, we have become
enamored with the healthy aspect of eating organic foods and have
opened two Clean Juice stores where we offer Organic Cold Pressed
juices, Acai Bowls, Smoothies, Wraps, and other healthy and delicious
foods. Our juice bars are in West Boca and West Palm Beach.
I am an executive at iQor, and we are a Technology based Outsource BPO company providing Sales, Customer Service, Technical
Support, and Financial Services support to many Fortune 500 companies. It’s a wonderful business focused on people delivering
solutions to customers in a multi-channel world. I’ve been in the industry for 25+ years and am lucky to have the opportunity to work
with so many amazing people every day.
Flavia and I are blessed with a combined family of water lovers and ski nuts. It’s quite a scene when we vacation together, whether we
are hitting the slopes, biking in Europe, wakeboarding in the local waters, or filling a bar at happy hour. Our family has one National
Champion, a Biological Engineering, a Franchise Marketing Manager, an entrepreneur, and an aspiring Senior in High School.
Flavia and I have both enjoyed boating in the past but didn’t have the time to enjoy it for several years while some of our kids’ played
sports in college. As that was coming to an end, we started looking at boats again and finally found one we loved and purchased a
couple of years ago. In honor of my father, we named her MisOriented, a name he always wanted to give to his boat.
With an almost empty nest, we wanted to meet more boaters to socialize with, explore with, and find new adventures on our boat. We
are thankful to have met Caryn and Michael Holmes at Orange Theory, and they invited us to join them at a cruise group meeting not
more than a few months ago. The rest is history. It’s been a wonderful experience for us. We’ve met many lovely people who were
already enjoying the boating life and welcomed us back into it and to the Club.
We couldn’t be happier with our decision to become boaters again and join the yacht club, and we are already making memories for a
lifetime in doing so. Our only disappointment is not doing this sooner.
If we haven’t, we look forward to meeting you soon!

lived in South Florida longer than my home city!
I am a financial professional with a BS in Accounting
and an MBA in Finance. I specialize in representing

scuba instructor position with Club Med in the
Turks & Caicos. That was 1 year of F-U-N and
debauchery. I am also an avid skier with a titanium

I am a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) and have been

from the club know that I will be offering scuba diving classes &

The Art Gallery Of Lighthouse Point Yacht Club is featuring
the artist Gerhard Richter for the 2022 December issue of
‘The Point’ magazine. Gerhard Richter is considered to be
one of the most collectable painters of the 19th and 20th
Century. Richter’s art has sold for millions and sought-after
by collectors and museums around the world. Many books
and art articles have been published about Richter’s
decades of work and how he evolved to stay true his artistic
originality. This is a brief look into the man and his art.
of LHPYC Gerhard Richter was born in 1932 in Dresden, Germany,
during the rise of the National Socialist German Workers'
Party, or the Nazi Third Reich. Richter's mother, the
Daniel J. O’Keefe • Fine Art daughter of a concert pianist, encouraged her son's early
talent for draftsmanship. In 1948, at the age of 16, Richter
516-383-4000 • danieljokeefe.com quit his formal education and took up an apprenticeship as
a set painter for the theater. The wake of war proved
traumatic for Richter. Richter’s early artistic training under
postwar communist-driven ideology eventually led Richter to seek his creative inspiration in nature over any political or religious
affairs or philosophies.
Beginning in 1951, Richter studied at the Kunstakademie, Dresden, where he painted murals and political banners commissioned by
state-owned businesses. During this time, the East German communist regime imposed a Social Realist style on all practicing artists.
This policy effectively turned art to the service of political propaganda. In keeping with this development, the government banned
exhibitions of American Pop art and Fluxus. These circumstances severely limited Richter's fledgling artistic style, as he was instructed
to paint only landscapes in a manner heavily informed by pastoral romanticism. Richter married Marianne Eufinger in 1957 and they
celebrated the birth of their daughter, Betty, in 1966. In a visit to West Germany in 1959, Richter discovered the work of contemporary
artists Jackson Pollock and Lucio Fontana. Pollock's uninhibited splashes of color across canvas had a profound impact on Richter,
provoking him to reflect on his own artistic ideology. Indeed, Richter began to question how a realist style did not seem to capture the
energy, sense of truth, and spirit of artistic liberation that he observed in the abstract work of his American and European
contemporaries. Supposedly "realistic", his work seemed to fail to reflect the underlying, tumultuous nature of reality itself.
In 1961, just prior to the government's official completion of the Berlin Wall, Richter moved to Düsseldorf. Once again enrolling at the
local Kunstakademie, Richter intended to work in a more uninhibited, avant-garde manner; in the process of rethinking his approach
to art making, he purposely destroyed many of his early paintings from the 1950s and the 1960s.
Richter increasingly employed his own painting as a means for exploring how images that appear to capture "truth" often prove, on
extended viewing, far less objective, or unsure in meaning, than originally assumed. The other common themes in his work are the
elements of chance, and the play between realism and abstraction. Working alongside but never fully embracing a quick succession of
late-20th-century art movements, such as Abstract Expressionism, Richter has absorbed many of their ideas while remaining skeptical
of all grand artistic and philosophical credos. Richter has maintained a lifelong fascination for the power of images and painting's long,
uneasy relationship with photography: while either medium may claim to reflect or express reality truthfully, either ultimately
suggests only a partial, or incomplete view of a subject. Richter borrows much of his painted imagery from newspapers, or even his
own family albums. Often he begins by mechanically projecting such an image onto the canvas, a technique for thinking about how
images often seem to have a life of their own, like mysterious ghosts haunting our psyche. This act of visual compression, in which
photography, projection, and painting merge to make a finished art work, suggests that all vision is a kind of conversion of the "real"
into the "imaginary."Richter would often blur his subjects and embrace chance effects in his own painting process in order to show the
impossibility of any artist conveying the full truth of a subject in its original condition. Such means for suggesting that something
essential to the model has been "lost in translation" often leads a viewer's attention to the oil pigment's dense, material nature, thereby
demonstrating both its expressive strengths and shortcomings. In Richter's completely abstract canvases, personal emotion and all
traces of the painter's autobiography seem missing. The painting's many layers, strokes, and scrapes of color may thus appear as
"beautiful" as anything found in nature that came into existence partly according to a predetermined structure (such as DNA), as well
as by way of unpredictable occasions of pure chance and the action of outside forces.
At a time when the "death of painting" was increasingly proclaimed by a new generation more interested in art's conceptual potential
than with mastering long traditions of material craftsmanship, Richter demonstrated that painting could still powerfully question all
images for their truth potential, no matter whether they might originate in the news media, the cinema, the internet, the ubiquitous
realm of commercial advertising, or even the family photo album. Richter has also reinvigorated the idea that desiring "beauty" in
one's work is a perfectly acceptable ambition, particularly at a time when many of his generation presumed that any desire for
aesthetic pleasure was something to be embarrassed about, or indeed applicable only to a distant, presumably less sophisticated
people in history.

The holidays are officially in full swing and you know what is right around the corner…..New Year’s resolutions. I am so
excited for the upcoming year as it will be a time for major change around the Club. Do not fear our amazing little gym

change, however sad in many ways brings about the new era of the Club. Why not celebrate that change with me and
make changes to your life in the area of fitness! There is no better time than right now, don’t be the person that is always
making excuses and not taking action in your own life. I am here to help! Spaces are very limited as we come into 2023 so,
please send me an email or give me a call at your convenience.
