16 of LHPYC Daniel J. O’Keefe • Fine Art 516-383-4000 • danieljokeefe.com The Art Gallery of Lighthouse Point Yacht Club is featuring artist Brice Marden for the 2024 Janurary issue of The Point Magazine. Brice Marden was born on October 15, 1938 in Westchester County, just north of New York City. He received a bachelor’s degree from Boston University in 1961 before attending Yale for his MFA. Marden was part of a historic class of artists to come out of Yale in the early 1960s, with professors that included Alex Katz and Jon Schueler and classmates that included Richard Serra, Chuck Close, Vija Celmins and Nancy Graves. These artists were on the cutting edge of their time; each forging separate paths of art-making in a collective sense. Brice Marden worked as a guard at the Jewish Museum and was there during its 1964 Jasper Johns’s retrospective; Johns’s work became a key influence for him. Marden’searly years in the city were also marked by spending time with notable folk singers, including Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger. He was married to Joan Baez’s sister, Pauline Baez, where he was introduced to the most popular artists. In 1966, Marden had his first solo exhibition, which was held at Bykert Gallery in Midtown Manhattan. He showed a series of monochromatic, oil-and-beeswax paintings—the choice of material was likely influenced by his exposure to Johns’s work—that were met with mixed reviews. That same year, the artist Dorothea Rockburne, a friend of Marden’s, helped him secure a job as a studio assistant to Robert Rauschenberg, a position he held for four years. Marden’s multicolored lined paintings are unique. He became well known for this intersecting method of line domination on canvas. Marden produced only one realistic painting of himself in his lifetime. He was a hightly regarded American artist known for his contributions to the minimalist and abstract expressionate movement. His collections of art exist world wide graceing a multitude of museums, private collections and public collections. He was one of my favorite artists and I have long been influenced by his work. He will be missed! Brice Marden passed away on August 9, 2023. Please feel free to contact Daniel J. O’Keefe at 516-383-4000 or email me at djokeefe3rd@att.net

22 FROM THE MARINA Thank You for the Holiday Cheer! Exciting Cruise Group Boating Trips Ahead 2024 As we bid farewell to the holiday season and eagerly welcome the new year, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the holiday cheer sent in for the marina. Your warmth, generosity, and festive spirit truly made this season special for all of us. Again, thank you to our sponsors, Anthony and Perla Mazzo, “East Marine” tenders. This was the best year ever with the great weather and the great job of all the participants who joined in. Your efforts have made our marina a vibrant and welcoming community; for that, we extend our sincere thanks. Great job for our drink makers for the dock hop as well. This group really knows how to get in the spirit. As we embark on this new year, we are excited to announce some upcoming boating trips that promise to be nothing short of exhilarating. With the holidays behind us, it's the perfect time to dust off your sails and set a course for unforgettable adventures on the water. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or just starting out, there's something for everyone to enjoy. However, while we eagerly anticipate these exciting boating trips, it's essential to prioritize safety and adhere to boating etiquette. Here are a few reminders to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all: Be sure to read the WhatsApp channel for details or any changes. 1. Parking: Please remember to park your cars in designated parking slips by the tennis courts. This helps maintain order and ensures that everyone has equal access to parking spaces. On the east side of the building is pick-up drop-off only. Toni Merlino Marina Director 2. Loading and Unloading Zone: The loading and unloading zone is meant for quick and efficient transfers. To keep things running smoothly, please limit your time in this zone to a maximum of 15 minutes. This allows ample opportunity for all boaters to load and unload their belongings. 3. Safety First: Always prioritize safety while out on the water. Ensure you have all the necessary safety equipment, including life jackets, fire extinguishers, and distress signals. Familiarize yourself with local boating regulations and follow them diligently. 4. Respect Other Boaters: Be mindful of fellow boaters and their personal space. Maintain a safe distance from other boats, avoid excessive noise, and be considerate of their experience on the water. Adhering to these simple guidelines can create a harmonious and enjoyable environment for everyone at our marina. Once again, we extend our deepest gratitude for your incredible support and the holiday cheer that made our marina shine. Let's embrace the new year with excitement, safety, and camaraderie as we embark on unforgettable boating adventures together. Wishing you fair winds and smooth sailing, The Marina Team
