Featured Boat: HAPPY OURS
Owned by: Sharon & Paul Alfieri

In December 2020 we sold our Back Cove 34, (the baby
brother to Sabre Yachts) a boat that I loved. Maine built
quality, workmanship down east styling that I grew up
with living in Boston. Although small she took us where
we wanted to go. It was time for a change.

That same December 2020 we purchased our fourth
“Happy Ours” …a Cruisers Cantius 48. A yacht that gives
us more room and amenities. The extra head, shower, full
size frig, four air conditioners, electric grill, ice maker,
cockpit frig, sliding moon roof will make the trips we are
planning with the Cruising Group like never leaving the
house.

Presently we are commissioning the yacht with new
Garmin electronics, upgrading batteries, chargers, satellite
TV, and a new Highfield inflatable dingy is on the way.
With four TV’s watching the Patriots, Dolphins, Miami
Hurricanes and Sharon’s favorite re-runs while Sunday
anchoring at Lake Boca or overnights at Lake Sylvia more
enjoyable.

All the previous “Happy Ours” have taken us on many
trips to the Bahamas, Florida Keys, Florida west and east
coast trips and looking forward to doing more….it does
not get old!

Living in Lighthouse Point for 32 years and being
surrounded by people with like interests such as boating,
being able to share ideas, stories, problem solving has
made our boating experience a joy.

We’ll see you on the water!

The Art Gallery Of Lighthouse Point Yacht Club is

pleased to showcase the art of Charles Fazzino’s,

“Stepping Out On Broadway” for The Point’s 2021 April

issue.

As the creator of limited edition fine art silkscreen

serigraphs, Charles Fazzino is best known for his

obsession with bright colors and wonderful detail, a

frenetic energy that infuses his work, and the unique

hand-assembled, 3-D layering technique that brings his

of LHPYC images to life.
Charles Fazzino, a graduated of the School of Visual Arts

Daniel J. O’Keefe • Fine Art in New York City, is one of the most popular and highly
collected pop artists of all time. During his

516-383-4000 • danieljokeefe.com more-than-thirty years as a pop artist, he has inserted his
unique, detailed, vibrant, and three-dimensional style of

artwork into the very fabric of popular culture. Fazzino’s artworks are exhibited in hundreds of museums and galleries in

more than twenty different countries. He has received many private and important commissions and has been selected as the

official artist for festivals and events all over the world. Charles is often referred to as a pop culture historian because of the

breadth of his work and the way it touches his collectors and captures the best parts of their contemporary lives. His legacy

will mark him as part of the next generation of famous pop artists as he follows the paths originally forged by pop art pioneers

such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Red Grooms, Robert Rauschenberg and Roy Lichtenstein.

What does it mean when we say that Charles Fazzino’s pop art is three-dimensional? Everyday, Fazzino faces the challenge of
trying to show people and explain what 3D means. His imagery is rich, colorful, and detailed but until you see it in person,
you don’t necessarily experience the “WOW” factor produced by his hand-cut, assembled, and embellished 3D technique.
Fazzino’s limited edition artworks are silkscreen printed multiple times on two different weights of 100% rag museum board.
The bottom layer is printed on a 2- or 4- ply board, giving it the stability it needs to support the layers. The top layers are
printed on 100% rag museum paper, thin enough to cut but sturdy enough to sit on top of the glue used to layer the artwork
without bending. All of the individual pieces that make up the 3D layers of artwork are cut out by hand using an exacto knife.
Because of the incredible level of detail captured in the cutting process, people often erroneously assume the prints are either
die-cut or machine-cut. The cutting process is carefully planned out and highly artistic, achievable only by the most skilled
artisans trained for weeks in Fazzino’s methods and techniques. The artistry in each Fazzino work is created as much by the
3D process as by the composition itself.

The Art Gallery at Light House Point is currently featuring a number of Gallery artists. All the art is for sale.
For information about the art please contact Daniel J. O’Keefe at 516-383-4000 or Diane at the front desk.

FROM THE LOUNGE

Hello everyone! As spring is getting closer, we find
ourselves feeling good bright energy as we enter Easter.
April Fool's is known as a day filled with tricks and
humored fun.

April and spring go hand in hand. Spring is the season for
renewal and new beginnings. April is also known best for
the religious holidays, Easter and Passover which are also
known to build unity. As we come together in this season,
the kids play an important role. They have adventurous fun
and they unite as they search for easter eggs together.

I've been working hard so that all of our members can enjoy
our specialty drinks for each season. For this month, the star
of my drinks is the Carrot. One of my new drinks is called

the “Bad Bunny Margarita.” In this drink you will find
interesting flavors which include smoked jalapeño, a hint of
ginger and carrot juice along with other interesting flavors.
It will be available the entire month of April and it will be
included in our Happy Hour.

My team and I would like to thank you all for making our
Old Fashioned Menu a hit. All our members are enjoying it
and finding it very interesting. I invite you all to come stop
by the club so you can savor all of our great drinks.
Remember that Happy Hour is available Wednesday
through Friday from 4-6pm and Saturday for our Ladies
Night 4pm-close. Every Sunday is also Happy Hour from
4-6pm. Looking forward to seeing you around!

Spotlight

Kary & Paul Benedetto

• We moved to Florida a year ago from the suburbs of
Philadelphia where we grew up and had been living
for the last 6 years.

• We had not spent much time in Florida prior to our
move and did not know what to expect when Paul’s
work brought us here. We have been beyond happy
with the move and have been busy having fun in the
sun in winter and trying to make up for 40 years of
being land-locked.

• We met and began dating at Bucknell University in
2001 and, as they say, the rest in history.

• Over the last 20 years we have lived in many places –
Philadelphia, New York, Rome, Cleveland, Wayne (PA)
and now Pompano Beach.

• Our three Children Karina (9), Xavier (6), and August
(4) filled and blessed our home along the way.
We have found a love for the National Parks and the
Canadian Rockies.

• We have enjoyed camping and hiking the mountains in
Yosemite, Rocky Mountain National Park, Kern River
and Banff. We also enjoy skiing the mountains of VT,
NH and ME.

• All five of us have really enjoyed playing tennis at the
yacht club. The children have been learning to play and
we have been brushing off the rust from years of not
playing.

• The children are on the LHPYC swim team and are
becoming strong swimmers, which we are happy about
since we spend so much time in the water.

• We have also dived head first into the boating world.
When we moved last year,
we trailered down our small
run- about and have used it
to cruise the ICW. Since
then Paul has been on a mad
search for a more
seafaring vessel so we can
join along on Cruise Group
adventures.

• We have met many great
LHPYC members, and hope
to meet many more on and
off the water.

Member • Renato and I moved to Florida in 1994, with a 3 month
old baby and a 2.5 years old toddler, to join Renato's
Spotlight family who already lived here since 1988.

Soraia & Renato Berger • We fell in love with South Florida, the weather, the
ocean, the friends we made, and after 7 years, going
through the official legal process to become US
citizens, we felt honored to call the US our home.

• But how did we meet? Well, It was on a hot Saturday
night, in February 1987, at 4:00 AM in Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil, that Reanto & I met in front of "Pizzaria
Guanabara" where the crowd used to get a slice of
pizza after a long night dancing and partying in Rio De
Janeiro.

• We got married in July 1990. But don't worry my dear
friends, we didn't recommend our girls to meet anyone
like that. :)

• Our two daughters, Tatiana (28) and Carolina (26) live
in Baltimore, MD and Chicago, IL respectively, and we
have so much fun visiting them, which we do very
often.

• We recently became grandparents and we can't
explain the love we feel for little Daniella Berger
Policapo. She is now 7 months old, crawling all over
the place, and she is just a lovely baby.

• Renato and I love to socialize with our closest friends,
go out to dinner, travel, and have a good time and
good wines!

• We really enjoy boating with our friends from the
LHPYC Cruise Group and attending the events
sponsored by the entertainment committee (EC) and
the wine club committee.

• You will also see us taking tennis lessons (we are
trying to have the courage to join the tennis
tournaments LOL ) and just walking around the club
and stopping to chat with everyone, as we live in
walking distance from the club.

• LHPYC is a very important part of our social life, and
we have met people who we know will be in our lives
for the long run. We really love our club!

Plumpjack Chardonnay is sourced from two vineyards in the Napa
Valley – one in Los Carneros and the other in St. Helena. The cooler
Carneros site imparts this wine with lemon zest, green apple, and Bosc
pear on the nose, while the warmer St. Helena site lends apricot, melon,

IN OUR COMMUNITY

Military Makeover

Local Marine Corps Veteran Michael Daniels and his family who live in
Deerfield Beach (neighbors of our own Diane & Terry Elliott!) are getting a
well-deserved home makeover.

“Military Makeover with Montel” offers hope and a helping hand here on the
home front to members of our military and their loved ones. Talk show legend
and military advocate Montel Williams, a veteran of both the Marine Corps
and the Navy, leads the Makeover team’s mission. This special series enlists
conscientious designers, contractors, landscapers, and other home
improvement professionals to transform the homes and lives of military families across the country.

As always, Diane wanted to help. Lighthouse Point Yacht Club decided to show up and provide a hearty meal for the men and
women working day and night to make this home makeover happen.

Thank you to Diane, JP, and Chef Ed for spending your time helping others & a HUGE Congratulations to the Daniels Family!
We look forward to seeing the big reveal in April!
