New Member Flavia and I met by chance almost nine years ago, here in Lighthouse
Point, and we married about a year and a half later. Flavia can tell you
Spotlight the real story over drinks; the details are always more fun! We love the
warm weather and year-round opportunity to spend time outdoors
Flavia & Michael Lehtio swimming, scuba diving, and biking. I am an avid golfer and enjoy the
links here in South Florida and in the mountains of Colorado, where we
spend parts of our summer most years. We are both addicted to living
healthily and exercising, and you can find us most mornings at the local
Orange Theory Fitness in Lighthouse Point.

Flavia was born in Santos, Brazil, and moved to Sao Paolo when she was
17. She is an interior decorator by trade, and she also studied nutrition
for several years before becoming a full-time mom, selling her business,
and moving to Florida. Flavia speaks three languages, has the fastest
dance feet you’ve ever seen, and will jump at any adrenaline-filled
experience you can come up with! She loves fashion, but she loves food
even more!

I am the eldest of 3 sons, born into a military family, and have lived
abroad for a good part of my life in Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines. I
was born in the United States, but not in a State, get it? I spent most of
my formative years living in countries where I was a guest and learned
to truly appreciate all the “goodness” we have here in ours. Some people
don’t seem to understand the privilege it is of being an American. My
mother was from Taiwan, and I lived in Taipei for six years during
elementary school, an experience I could only hope to give my children.
I love almost any kind of competitive sport, whether golf, bowling, darts,
a game of chess, or chugging a beer, but my passion is classic cars,
especially the Bow-Ties. I am a dad to four grown children, all off the
payroll, and I’m happy to say, living on their own!

Our passion for working out at the Orange Theory Fitness studio turned
into a business venture for us about five years ago when we were lucky
enough to find our way into a franchise opportunity and opened an
Orange Theory studio in West Palm Beach. Since then, we have become
enamored with the healthy aspect of eating organic foods and have
opened two Clean Juice stores where we offer Organic Cold Pressed
juices, Acai Bowls, Smoothies, Wraps, and other healthy and delicious
foods. Our juice bars are in West Boca and West Palm Beach.

I am an executive at iQor, and we are a Technology based Outsource BPO company providing Sales, Customer Service, Technical
Support, and Financial Services support to many Fortune 500 companies. It’s a wonderful business focused on people delivering
solutions to customers in a multi-channel world. I’ve been in the industry for 25+ years and am lucky to have the opportunity to work
with so many amazing people every day.

Flavia and I are blessed with a combined family of water lovers and ski nuts. It’s quite a scene when we vacation together, whether we
are hitting the slopes, biking in Europe, wakeboarding in the local waters, or filling a bar at happy hour. Our family has one National
Champion, a Biological Engineering, a Franchise Marketing Manager, an entrepreneur, and an aspiring Senior in High School.

Flavia and I have both enjoyed boating in the past but didn’t have the time to enjoy it for several years while some of our kids’ played
sports in college. As that was coming to an end, we started looking at boats again and finally found one we loved and purchased a
couple of years ago. In honor of my father, we named her MisOriented, a name he always wanted to give to his boat.

With an almost empty nest, we wanted to meet more boaters to socialize with, explore with, and find new adventures on our boat. We
are thankful to have met Caryn and Michael Holmes at Orange Theory, and they invited us to join them at a cruise group meeting not
more than a few months ago. The rest is history. It’s been a wonderful experience for us. We’ve met many lovely people who were
already enjoying the boating life and welcomed us back into it and to the Club.

We couldn’t be happier with our decision to become boaters again and join the yacht club, and we are already making memories for a
lifetime in doing so. Our only disappointment is not doing this sooner.

If we haven’t, we look forward to meeting you soon!

Jasen & Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Gundersen professional and personal opportunity. Having met in
medical residency – yes, they are both doctors! - they’ve
been married 18 years and enjoy the south Florida lifestyle
with their twostandard poodles who have their own
Instagram hashtags: #Francis_the_poodle and
#Sebastian_the_poodle.

Jasen has spent the majority of his professional career in
leadership positions leading large physician organizations
and is currently the CEO of CardioOne, a practice
management company focused on supporting independent
cardiology practices on their journey to a better practice
experience and ability to move into new value based
payment systems. After attending Fairfield University
andthe University of Connecticut School of Medicine, he
moved to Massachusetts to attend UMass Medical School
for residency training and stayed on to begin his career
there.

Liz is the AssistantDean for Student Affairs at the FAU
College of Medicine as well as the founding director of their
hospice and palliative medicine fellowship program. She is
a dedicated physician educator and leader with a national
reputation for her work in this space. Liz grew up in
Virginia and attended the College of William and Mary
followed by the Medical College of Virginia. She then
moved to Massachusetts to train in her residency at UMass
where she and Jasen met.

Liz and Jasen enjoy a very active lifestyle as they are avid
divers and skiers, and they love to travel (especially by
motorcycle). They have a Tiara 38 Open and often spend
the summers at Ocean Reef. Jasen is a daredevil by nature
and regularly races cars and motorcycles. Liz prefers to get
her hands dirty through the peace and quiet of gardening.
Their two poodles are quite the personalities and often the
subject of lots of their social media posts.

The Gundersens joined the club as a chance to meet friends
and have a local spot to hang out and relax. They can often
be found visiting with Cindy at the bar, enjoying martinis
and talking about Francis and Sebastian.

The Art Gallery Of Lighthouse Point Yacht Club is

featuring the art of David Hockney for the 2022

November issue of The Point’ magazine. Hockney

was born to Kenneth and Laura Hockney on July

9,1937, in Bradford, United Kingdom. David

Hockney is an English painter, draftsman,

printmaker, stage designer, and photographer.

Hockney attended Bradford College (1953-1957),

Royal College of Art, and Chelsea College of Art &

Contemporaries exhibition, held at Whitechapel Art

Gallery, which heralded the arrival of the new Pop

aesthetic in the UK. As an important contributor to the pop art movement of the 1960s, he is considered one of the

most influential British artists of the 20th century.

In 1964 Hockney moved from London to Los Angeles, where he started painting scenes of Southern California life
including rolling hills, swimming pools and modernist architecture that were often infused with homoerotic themes.
His fascination with swimming pools came about when he moved to LA and noticed that everybody had a
swimming pool, and furthermore, due to the climate, they could be used all year round. Between 1964-71, Hockney
made numerous paintings of
swimming pools, and each painting attempted a different solution to the depiction of the continually changing
surface of the water. Some of his early pool paintings contained an often-naked male subject, viewed from behind,
but his later ‘splash’ works are devoid of evident human presence such as Pool 1 (1978) and Lithograph of Water
Made of Lines (1978).

Hockney has also focused on landscapes, either in paintings or the collages made with Polaroid and 35 mm-color
prints of the 1980s to mural-scaled horizontal format landscapes and stage sets. Hockney has continued to
investigate the relationship between perception and space as well as technology, in a series of iPad drawings. David

Fitness

Gobble Gooble Gooble all my LHPYC family! This is the month of the bird, and by bird of course I mean TURKEY! Thanksgiv-
ing is an amazing time to celebrate with family and friends for all the things we are grateful for. One of the things I am most
thankful for each year is my health. I want to share the message of “health” this holiday season. This is my 5th Thanksgiving I
will be celebrating with my LHPYC family. I, as well as you have aged since I took this position as Fitness Director, and I want to
encourage everyone reading this to begin a new health journey this holiday season. This doesn’t mean that you must change
your life a full 180 degrees but rather start by making small changes to increase your healthy lifestyle with better choices. Those
choices can be as easy as, snacking less, drinking less, talking a short walk at night, starting a gym routine! Whatever your
“choice” is, do it! Enjoy it! Make it a part of your daily routine. If you would like help in making those choices happen in the gym
or outside of the gym, I would be more than happy to sit with you and talk about how I can be of help. There is no better time to
start then NOW. Seize the day and take charge of your lifestyle, I am positive that you won’t regret it!

Youth

Calling all BINGO players between age 5 to12 years old, we will be hosting a fun-filled bingo night in Little Skippers on

CRUISE GROUP

For November, our Yacht of The Month is When In Rome, owned by the wonderful new
Members Jeff & Darlene Chanin! - Cruise Group Chair, Michael Holmes

YACHT
of the

Name of Boat: When In Rome

Name of Member: Jeff and Darlene Chanin

In 2016 we moved from Parkland to Lighthouse Point
where we purchased our home based on the beautiful
Intracoastal views. The length of the dock or the
proximity to the inlet was not even a consideration
because we had never had a boat nor wanted one. But,
as friends and family came to visit there seemed to be a
reoccurring question, “when are you getting a boat?"
We asked ourselves, does everyone that lives on the
water in Lighthouse Point have a boat? The simple
answer, most do.
By 2017, we had purchased our first boat, a 42’ Marquis,
and picked what we thought was the perfect name,
When In Rome because everyone knows that “when in
Rome you do as the Romans do”. By 2019, we were
already on to the second boat, a sleek, gray, 57’
Sunseeker Predator keeping the same name. What
started as a simple let’s try this has become an
obsession.
This Sunseeker has been a great cruiser with the comfort
and room for long trips along with the speed and style
of the Predator line. We enjoy everything from rafting
up in Lake Boca, restaurant hopping, and weeks on the
boat in the Bahamas.
We recently joined the LHPYC to meet like-minded
people and just went on our first cruise trip to ORC
where we met a great group of fellow boaters! We look
forward to future trips with this fun group from the
Lighthouse Point Yacht Club.
