strong day where us dads got celebrated for a change. Owner & Interim General Manager
Don’t forget about our Kids Summer Camp that started
June 14th and will run until August 13th. Please, please
keep us informed on whether your kids will be
attending. We must plan ahead. It takes a full club effort
to make this camp a memorable experience for our club
kids. This camp is a huge hit and fills up quickly. You
can come in and out throughout the summer and we
simply charge your account for the days your children
attend.

I hope you all are enjoying Chef’s food as much as my
wife and I are. If you have not tried the incredible prime
rib and turkey, or the awesome meat selections, please
do yourself a favor and treat yourself.
Geidys, our Bar Manager, has done it again- another
incredible cocktail menu to add to our huge list! This
time it’s for all the non-alcoholic drinkers. Her task was
to create a non-alcoholic cocktail menu that wasn’t
anoverpriced concoction of juice. Instead, they are
carefully crafted with as much detail as our amazing
alcoholic cocktails. Try it!

not normally available for purchase. Please book early
because every wine dinner has limited space and sells
out quickly. By having your reservation in ahead of time,
we will be able to secure more of the hard-to-find wines.)

Lastly, back to business. We have been requesting for 18
months now that our members please start to change
your payment methods from credit card to ACH or
check. This is standard for private clubs due to extending
credit for 30-60 days to its members and having to incur
credit card fees from processing. We aresetting a
deadline of November 1st to change all monthly bill
payments from credit cards to ACH or check. However,
we humbly ask for the benefit of your club, please make
this change sooner rather than later. We thank you in
advance.

We had a very strong month of
swimming in June. Our swim team was
practicing very hard as we hosted a
spectacular Swim Sizzler on June 12th to
show off the skills the kids have been
developing. Many of the swimmers
achieved faster times in all four of the
swim strokes. We had great participation
from parents and volunteers. Awards
were given out and fun BBQ wrapped up
our morning. We continue to gain new
members at the club and many have
expressed an interest in swimming. The

Spotlight welcoming to all.

Kim & Susan Almendinger Kim and I have been married for 18 years and have 5 children
between the two of us. We were snowbirds from Bratenahl,
Ohio on Lake Erie since 2009, until we decided to become
permanent residents of FL in 2017, and currently reside in Boca
Raton. Kim grew up in Ohio and graduated from Ohio State
University after serving in the US Army in Vietnam. He is a
retired stockbroker and still enjoys following the stock market
and making personal investments.

Susan is from Charleston, WV and upon receiving her Master’s
Degree in Social Work from West Virginia University. She
worked as a Juvenile Probation Officer. Her hobbies include
gardening, and painting. Susan also enjoys her time at LHPYC
playing cards with other members two or three times a week
and has been on the club’s Entertainment Committee for the
last 3 years.

We enjoy visiting friends & family around the country and
cruising with friends on various cruise lines. We have
especially enjoyed being with the cruise club on various trips.
We have both been involved in social and yacht clubs for over
30 years and find the LHPYC membership the most interesting
and diverse group we have ever encountered. There is truly
something here for everyone, no matter what your interest
may be. The two of us look forward to many more years of
club enjoyment and meeting new members and friends along
with all the activities that are provided.

2019 FRANK FAMILY “CARNEROS” CHARDONNAY

The Frank Family Winery was introduced to me by our very own
member, Dr. Corn, and has been a great addition to our wine menu.
It is a medium-bodied style with notes of melon, white peach, and
honeyed flowers. Beautifully balanced, with nicely integrated acidity
and a clean, lengthy finish, it is ideal to drink with our BAKED
BLACK COD served with baby arugula, cipollini onions and a
maple demi glaze accompanied by a wild mushroom salad.

IN OUR COMMUNITY

Make-A-Wish Foundation Hike

We are so proud of our very own CHEF ED’s Son HUNTER
as he has committed to “take a hike” for the Make-A-Wish
Foundation by participating in a one day, 26.3 mile hike
through Silver Falls State Park in Salem, Oregon.

His desire to make an impact in our local community really impressed me and gives me hope for our future
generations as he is only 23 years old. Hunter has chosen to take this hike to raise money for a 15-year old boy
name Conner who was diagnosed with a brain tumor. His wish is to go on a Caribbean cruise with his family and
will be taking the hike along side Hunter in this Trailblaze Challenge!

LHPYC has committed to kick off Hunter’s campaign with a $1,000
donation which will go directly to helping Conner get his wish. If
you would like to donate, please go to:

About the Make-A-Wish Foundation…
A wish experience can be a game-changer for a child with a critical illness.

This one belief guides us in everything we do at Make-A-Wish. It
inspires us to grant life-changing wishes for children going through so
much. It compels us to be creative in exceeding the expectations of
every wish kid. It drives us to make our donated resources go as far as
possible. Most of all, it's the founding principle of our vision to grant
the wish of every eligible child.

This is our mission:
Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than
gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone
involved—wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical
professionals and communities. For wish kids, just the act of making
their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their
medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be
optimistic. And still others might realize all they have to offer the
world through volunteer work or philanthropy.

of LHPYC This month The Art Gallery Of Lighthouse Point
Yacht Club examines how American artists are
Daniel J. O’Keefe • Fine Art discovered and recognized in the July 2021 issue of
516-383-4000 • danieljokeefe.com the of ‘THE POINT’ magazine. We examine the
process of identifying excellent artists who have not
yet received the full recognition they deserve and
those art historians who make that determination.
Generally speaking, most people look at art to see
what they like or what moves them. Some look for
art that will fit into their color scheme at home or
what fits their budget. But what do art historians
look for when looking at art? There are many
qualities that go into their decisions when
evaluating art and artists. This is a painstaking and
complicated process that deserves some discussion.

It is important to bring greater recognition to the lives and works of artists, regardless of their age; whether they
are emerging, mid-career, late-career, or deceased. Too many artists were marginalized or slipped through the
cracks of art history, always for fascinating reasons. The mission of curators is to find and reduce that number.
Curators try to increase the number of significant legacies that are preserved and promoted.

First is the vetting process. Art historians will conduct a strict vetting process. Their eyes are focused on quality,
innovation, and historical significance. Art historians publish their findings in scholarly art journals, not popular
art magazines that depend upon paid display advertising and subscribers. Art historians also discover
back-stories that are as compelling as the art. The art historians, working with peers, or by them selves, will

create a critical/biographical
essay that fully shows why an
artist’s work stands out as truly
innovative. Exhibitions and
essays serve as a
communications platform.
Securing gallery and,
hopefully, museum exhibitions
is the final goal.

The Art Gallery at Light House Point is currently featuring a number of Gallery artists. All the art is for sale.
For information about the art please contact Daniel J. O’Keefe at 516-383-4000 or Diane at the front desk.

Spotlight

Katie Hull

Hi everyone! For those of you who don’t know me I am
Katie Hull. I am 26 years old and I work upstairs in the
Crow’s Nest. If you are not familiar with the Crow’s Nest,
that is where the youth of the Club come to hang out when
the parents are dining or are participating in our many
events. I have worked at the Club for three years now. One of
my duties is to run our annual summer camp, as well as
planning and executing the games for our monthly Sunday
Fundays during the summer. I first heard about the Club
through the lovely Mrs. Jane. Jane and I worked together at
my other job, which is a preschool called Evergreen
Academy of Zion Lutheran Church. I love working at the
club. There are so many fun activities that I am happy to be a
part of and experience with all of the amazing children here.
Some of those activities include fishing, tennis lessons, arts &
crafts and swimming. It brings me joy being able to help in
providing a fun and safe environment for our youth. I would
have to say that fishing with the kids is probably my favorite
thing to do! Helping them learn how to bait hooks and
watching the pure excitement they have when reeling in a
fish definitely brings a smile to my face.

Some additional background about myself is that I have an
Associate’sDegree in Arts with high honors. I am currently
working on my Bachelors in Exceptional Student
Education/ESOL Endorsement K-12. I plan on going for a
Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy after I finish my
Bachelor’s Degree. I have been working in a childcare setting
for the last seven years now. After graduation from
Northeast High school in 2014, I began that summer working
in a preschool. I was an assistant teacher for many years and
have recently become a lead toddler teacher. I love being able
to work with such a wide range of ages and being able to
experience big developmental milestones at the preschool.
Being able to talk about school, sports and the lives of the
children at the club really highlight what a joy it is for me to
work with children. I am so happy to be a part of the LHPYC
family. I am loving the massive amount of growth we are
experiencing as a club and I look forward to our future brand
new state-of-the-art clubhouse once it is built!

COMMODORE’S CORNER

It is my pleasure to introduce Tim and Linda Loker, valued members of Cruise Group and
good people to know. - Commodore, Peter Hanssen

YACHT
of the

Sweet Dream is a 2020 Beneteau Swift Trawler 50, built in France. Since we bought her
before construction, we were able to do some customization to really make her our
own. She has wheelhouse and flybridge helms, three staterooms, two heads and ample
living space. She has IPS drives and a semi-displacement hull. We get on plane to
nearly 20 knots, or at trawler speeds we have approximately 1500 miles of range. LOA
is just at 50 ft. with a 15’ 3” beam. She was weighed at Merritt’s recently at 53,000
pounds.

Linda and Tim hail from Nebraska. Tim has always been boat crazy. We would take a
boat ready every change we got. We once took a trip on the Swan Island Maine mail
boat in the cold and rain in December. Linda married him anyway.

Our first Sweet Dream was a new 1999 Sea Ray 270. We towed that boat many places,
including Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri and Lewis and Clark in South Dakota. We
quickly decided we wanted a larger boat and bought a new 2001 Sea Ray 310 that we
berthed at Branched Oak Lake in the Nebraska countryside. It was a small lake of
about 2000 acres, but the closest marina to our home. We were members and on the
board of an active Yacht Club there. The events and dock parties were fabulous. We
met great people and made lifetime friends.

Besides lake boating, we also boated on the Missouri River and have done several
bareboat charter trips to the BVI on sailing catamarans, with Tim as captain. We
started talking about living on board, with the goal of cruising the Eastern Seaboard
and possibly taking our own boat to the VI. This year we are concentrating on shorter
trips to the Keys and Bahamas, meanwhile planning to go up the east coast next
summer.

We are both retired from the practice of anesthesiology, Tim as a physician and Linda
as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Tim trained at Dartmouth and Linda at
Yale. Presently we are spending about half the year in Nebraska, half living on the
boat.

Back home Linda enjoys figure skating including coaching. She is an avid quilter and
has made quilts for all the beds on the boat. Tim enjoys photography and is a
recording artist and engineer. He did a CD of fun boating songs called “Branched Oak
Reggae.” He’s also produced some boating movies and has a channel on YouTube.

We thought that a new boat would be problem free, but wow were we wrong! We’ve
learned a lot in the first year of big boat ownership and appreciate the help we’ve
gotten from our Lighthouse Point Yacht Club friends.
