A MESSAGE FROM THE OWNER May 2023 (Continued on Page 9) County Permitting: County Permit Status: Broward County Drainage – Application L2022-094 – Approved Broward County Surface Water Management License - Approved – County Emailed license approval over, provided to city building department 4/18/23 - License # SWM20230370 Broward County Water and Wastewater Services– project no. 107601 – Approved. Broward County gave their approval letter for this project on 3/31/23 Broward County will be installing a new sewer system in LHP up 39th street to fix the leaking problem. It’s about 4,000LF and multiple lift station upgrades. They will apply to the County Commission for funds to be allocated into their budget in October. This problem delayed our county permits byfour months. Thanks to the help from Mayor Lamar Fisher, we got this resolved. Tree Removal License – License No: TP22-1096 – License issued. City Permitting: City Permit Status: Auxiliary Permits: FPL Utility Permits - All FPL work is now complete, and we are ready to get the main clubhouse shut off. – Tennis Pro Shop and D-Dock are now live on a new FPL meter. – FPL has disconnected Marina A and B dock from the main clubhouse building and re-routed to C dock transformer. Front Wall – Permit issued July 12th, 2022. Waiting for the plan after their study of the pole locations. - The front wall is 95% built, and all inspections passed, including the partial final. Pending that last section at the east emergency entrance, which is waiting for FPL’s final determination about their power pole reinstallation and/or underground power location. - Additional existing trees on the property around the clubhouse are being relocated to make it ready for demolition of the building and site. Additional landscaping is also being installed along the north side of the new wall as per the tree license issued by Broward County. Retaining Wall Along Dock Perimeter - Engineering: LHPYC Engineers have revised plans and re-submitted to the city for review. - Zoning: Pending approval from engineering. - Structural: Pending Engineering and Zoning pass before reviewed. Access/ADA Site Ramps to Docks – Permit Issued: 3/15/23, and work to start in June. Demolition Permit – Permit ready to be issued when we receive the FPL power shut-off letter. Site Demolition Permit – This was issued in June of 2022 and was retracted by the City after we had begun. This is why you see half-demolished areas around the parking lot. Due to this delay, this will now be done in unison with the Clubhouse Demolition Permit. In addition, LHPYC has cleaned and added new barricades throughout the property. Temporary Fence Permit - Permit Issued. The fence will be installed once site demolition has occurred. Master Permit Status: Entry Monument – Plans pending re-submission to city with minor zoning correction. - Zoning: County Water and Wastewater Approved. - Plumbing: Approved - Mechanical: Approved - Electrical: Corrections re-submitted to city - Structural: Corrections re-submitted to city - Fire: Approved Tennis Center Bistro – Resubmitted to the City of Lighthouse Point. - Zoning: County Water and Wastewater Approved. - Electrical: Approved - Mechanical: Corrections re-submitted to city - Plumbing: Corrections re-submitted to city - Structural: Corrections re-submitted to city - Fire: Corrections re-submitted to city

A MESSAGE FROM THE OWNER (Continued from Page 8) Townhouse Buildings 2, 3, 4 & 5 - Received permit sets back on 4/28/23 – Architect and Engineers revising plans per city comments. - Zoning: County Water and Wastewater Approved. LHPYC Architect revising plans per city comments. Gas tanks said to need (Comment about the roof parapet wall to be addressed by the architect in resubmittal.) - Electrical: Approved - Mechanical: Approved - Plumbing: LHPYC Engineer revising plans per city comments. - Structural: LHPYC Engineer revising plans per city comments. - Fire: LHPYC Engineer revising plans per city comments. Yacht Club Clubhouse – Plan sets being reassembled for city submittal to address all comments. 6-month re-design delay due to Pompano Fire Chief insisting we design the life safety features of the building to handle 1,554 people even though we are not allowed more than 400 guests inside the building per DRC, Developers Agreement, Planning and Zoning, and plan notes. This should have been dealt with in DRC 3 years ago. This has cost us time and $80,000 in redesign and engineering fees, and countless money in Clubhouse delays. We have finally completed this work and are re-submitting for the clubhouse. We are hoping the city will help move this permit along as fast as possible. - Zoning – County Water and Wastewater Approved. - Electrical – Corrections re-submitted to city - Mechanical - Corrections re-submitted to city - Plumbing - Corrections re-submitted to city - Structural - Corrections re-submitted to city (Needed Life Safety changes first.) - Fire - Life Safety Plans have been revised, driving all necessary changes. Thank you all for your patience with your club. Progress is underway, and seeing all parties involved in this process moving in the same direction and with conviction is promising! In other news, I am happy to announce that the Cruise Group has gained so many new members which has led to an interest from your fellow members and local boating businesses to sponsor our Cruise Group Travel Calendar! Our Cruise Group Committee, chaired by Michael Holmes, with sponsorship led by Joshua Kerrigan, has worked hard to raise us travel money. We have just finalized our sponsorship for 2023 and the Cruise Group Committee has raised $57,500 in sponsorship money! These funds collected will be added to the $16,000 raised through dues, and used to make our club trips more elaborate and fun for all of you. We want to thank Rick Obey Yacht Sales, Yacht Management South Florida, Sea Tow, Brown & Brown, Big Dog Tackle, Marine Max, and East Marine Tenders for your 2023 Sponsorship! We highly recommend joining the Cruise Group if you are not yet a part of it. Email [email protected] today for your application. A great deal was left behind...a wonderful town and community in which we were fully immersed, incredible schools, top-notch restaurants and shopping, and a life filled with amazing friends made along the way that we will forever call family. Three homes..full of memories, big, big triumphs, sad, tough losses, aches, and pains, all navigated with love together. Four beautiful children were born and loved beyond measure. Years of memories on the baseball field, basketball courts, and at the rink (hockey life...if you know, you know). Years of coaching youth sports, running and serving on HSA boards, and active involvement in our community led to an incredibly strong network and a true sense of belonging. A fulllife that our family led in West Hartford, CT. At some point, each of us gains the wisdom that everything in life has its time. For the Bradley family, the time had come to say goodbye to Connecticut, to close that chapter, and begin the next. It was time to make a move to a place where new memories would be created and new friendships would be forged to enjoy the incredible offerings of this new place. We would grow more together as a family in this new adventure. It was time. Southeast Florida was the destination, and we feel incredibly lucky to have been led to Lighthouse Point. An absolute gem....and the gem within the gem..the Lighthouse Point Yacht Club. From the very first day we felt the comfort, the kindness, and the connection. A club is made up of the people, and the people here are kind, generous, friendly, welcoming, supportive, and joyful. This is a true Godsend to our family, a place to feel welcomed and at home amidst all that is new in our lives. We have already found treasured moments here at LHPYC and know many, many more are to follow. This is a special place where our family looks to build and support community, to write our family’s next chapter. Patrick holds a BS in Business from the University of Connecticut, an MBA from the College of William and Mary, and serves as Executive Vice President of Virtus Investment Partners. Christine holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Connecticut and a MS in Elementary Education, and is a former first-grade school teacher that has been home for the past 20 years raising the couple’s four children. Aidan (20) grew up playing hockey, baseball, and basketball and is now studying Business Analytics at Elon University in North Carolina. Shane (18) grew up playing hockey, baseball, and basketball and loves to surf. He is a junior at St. Thomas Aquinas High School and aspires to attend U Miami. Ryan (15) grew up playing basketball, lacrosse, and for many years, violin. She is a freshman at St. Thomas Aquinas High School and also aspires to attend U Miami. Finley (9) plays hockey, softball, and violin and now swims for the LHPYC swim team. She is full of love and life. New Member Spotlight Christine & Patrick Bradley 18 Ginny Mermaid

Julia Robinson Membership & Communications Director Summer is here, and school is almost over! I remember those days leading up to summer break and how excited I was not to have to wake up early. On the flip side, my parents were less enthusiastic about me being home to annoy them! Throughout the month, look out for updates on our LHPYC Summer Activities Program or as we refer to it SAP. We offer activities, swimming, and tennis programming throughout the summer to alleviate some of the stress of summer break. In addition, we have extended our dining hours by the pool from Wednesday through Sunday. Check out page two for all the updates! While we are under demolition our primary gathering area is our poolside bar & restaurant Shipwrecked. We love our LHPYC Youth and want them to have independence here at the club, but safety always comes first. Please be mindful of our Children’s Policy here at the club: children under the age of twelve must have adult supervision while on the property. If you would like a break from the kiddos but still want to enjoy the club, take advantage of your Little Skippers programming happening Wednesday through Saturday from 6PM until 9:30PM. Miss Katie is generating cool and exciting activities like slime night to make Little Skippers more enjoyable for our youth. As a reminder, Little Skippers is complimentary on Wednesdays but does not include dinner as we encourage family pasta night by the pool. Thursday through Saturday our Little Skippers pricing includes dinner! We also ask all our parents to be mindful of their children’s behavior on our pool deck. While we are blessed to have well-behaved children here at the club, we understand that sometimes fun in the sun can get overwhelming. Our pool WELCOME NEW MEMBERS Sharon & Kerry Kligerman Jason Randolph Glenn & Theresa McCarty Patrick & Christine Bradley Laura & Roland Stanley David & Cathy Black Melissa &Nick Miceli MEMBERSHIP deck area is for all members to enjoy so as a reminder we ask that if children are enjoying the area be mindful of the dinner tent, pool deck area, and other adult members enjoying the pool. Our travel schedule is in full swing, and we are excited to build memories with each and every one of our LHPYC Families. Please see pages 14 through 17 for our travel schedule and more information about our Cabo and South African Safari trip happening later this year. Although, on the travel calendar, some trips are designated as Cruise Group Only trips, I highly encourage our members interested in boating (whether you have a boat or not) to join the group so you may partake in all the fun! We want you all to stay connected to our Club communications and social media outlets. Please see page 32 to find our social media channels as well as group chats we have here at the club. We have plenty for you to join depending on your interests: Tennis, Youth, Fitness, Fishing! In addition, we are finalizing our LHPYC APP and will be ready for launch in the summer! Do not hesitate to contact me if you need assistance registering for WhatsApp or anything at all. I am here for you!

Ginny Mermaid of LHPYC Daniel J. O’Keefe • Fine Art 516-383-4000 • danieljokeefe.com The Art Gallery of Lighthouse Point Yacht Club is featuring artist Seung Lee for the 2023 May issue of The Point magazine. Seung Lee is a Korean American contemporary artist. He received BFA in Drawing from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland and MFA in Painting from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Seung Lee was a Professor of Art at Long Island University Post and was the director of Fine Arts and Graduate Studies for 20 years. It was at Long Island Post University where I first met Seung Lee a little over twenty- five years ago. He was anassociate professor then. I chose Seung to be my graduate art’s advisor. His teachings were invaluable to me in my art career, and we have stayed in touch and attended one another’s gallery openings over the years. Seung Lee moved with his family to America at the age of 15. Since then, he became a successful painter of works that fit very well into the space between Asian and Western esthetics, with a predilection as well for a mixed style using both abstraction and realism. Most recently he has been working on the heightened treatment of bamboo; Lee lives in eastern Long Island, within walking distance of a bay, and has planted a small forest of bamboo behind his house. Bamboo, a traditional theme in Asian painting, is often seen as a symbol of persistence and resiliency. His earlier art tends toward abstraction, but always there is the suggestion of Eastern influence in Lee’s art, whose life may have taken him away from Korea, but whose memories subtly appear in the manner of his art. Lee’s paintings, drawings, and large-scale installations have been exhibited extensively in the US as well as internationally: China, Italy, France, Japan, Germany, and Korea. He has received numerous reviews in the New York Times, Newsday, Kyoto Times, Korea Daily News, Art Word magazine, Art in Culture magazine, Art Price magazine, Art and People magazine and included in artist Profiles of Korea and Japan.” Seung Lee received many awards; New York State Governor, Nassau County Supervisor, Suffolk County Supervisor, New Jersey City Mayor, Seung was awarded as “Best International Korean Artist” from Korean Art Association in 2011, and in 2022. Please feel free to contact Daniel J. O’Keefe at 516-383-4000 or email me at [email protected]

Hi all, I am Katie Hull, soon-to-be Katie Woodside. I have some exciting news. I got engaged last September to my now fiancé Austin Woodside! We are currently planning our wedding for the summer of 2024. I’ve known Austin since high school. We both loved playing sports in high school, some for the school and other pick-up games outside of school with all our friends. Austin is a family guy, just like me. We love spending time with our family and especially our nieces when we have the time. We also have two puppies Arya who is a little over a year old, and then we have Ragnar, who is 11 months old. These two crazy pups love running around together or playing with others daily. They love our apartments backyard, going on walks, going to grandmas’ house, and going to the pet store. I am currently 80 percent complete with my bachelor’s degree in Exceptional Student Education. After I graduate, I want to go for my master’s in occupational therapy and. Specialize to work with children. I have been working with and around kids’ since I graduated high school and I have loved every minute of it. I stated first working in a preschool setting working in every classroom from the baby room all the way to after schoolers. I loved being able to watch our students grow up through the school, some of the students I had the privilege to watch them learn and grow all the way from the baby room to VPK. In the preschool is where I meet Mrs. Jane who encouraged me to come to the Club. I have been here for almost five years now and I couldn’t be any happier. There is so many great events and amenities that the club has for the members and their children. Some of my favorite events would have to be Feast with the Beast, Bingo, the Halloween Party, and Summer Activities Program. I have had the opportunity to help Jeremy Run SAP the last two years and we always have such fun with the kids. Watching their smiling faces when they are reeling in a fish they just caught, doing cannonballs into the pool, or winning a game in tennis, SAP is always a great time. I also love seeing everyone when they come and visit me in little skippers. We always have a great time doing crafts, playing games, and having dance parties. I look forward to seeing everyone. Employee Spotlight Katie Hull I am excited to announce the promotion of Miss Katie to the LHPYC Youth Social Activities Manager - Jeremy

FITNESS & YOUTH Fitness We have officially reached the 5th month of the year, and this month always makes me sad for one reason. Many of our seasonal members begin to leave this month and head back up north to their primary homes. I see a slight decrease in attendance at the gym as these snowbirds fly home, as well as in my personal training schedule. The good news is that I will surely see them in the fall or perhaps during the summer for some drops in if they need to come back to Florida to handle personal affairs. This creates new opportunities for members to book personal training sessions with me. If you have been wondering about returning to your gym routine and would like help, my door is always open! If you want info on our fantastic group fitness classes, please reach out! Youth I have some big news to share with everyone! Ms. Katie Hull has accepted a full-time position with us as the Youth Social Activities Manager. We all know and love the hard work Ms. Katie has done with our youth over the last four years. I have been working with her to get her into this position for some time now, and it finally happened! Our first order of business will be to organize a Summer Activities Program at LHPYC. Please see our events page for more information and look out for our weekly eblast for developing details. Please save the date for our May Kids Day. Saturday, May 13th, will be our Mother’s Day Edition. We are asking parents to send their kids photos of Mom to do fun crafts with. We will have a poolside lunch followed by a pool party! Please see the advertisement in this month’s issue on page 6. Lastly, please join us for our first Dive-In Movie night on Friday, May 19th, at the pool at 8pm. We will be playing The Bad Guys movie. This is a free event, and we encourage everyone to make reservations by calling the club or emailing. See the flier on page 7! Jeremy Martens Fitness & Youth Director

TENNIS We had a lot of exciting tennis and pickleball on the courts in April! We have new faces in our junior program that continues to grow which is exciting. Our core adult programming is thriving with more players enjoying our twice a week Cardio offerings and our ever-popular Tiki Tennis. Given the growth, we do ask you to reserve your spot so we can plan accordingly. If you are not on our group What’s App chat, please let us know so I can add you and keep you informed of all our happenings. Last month we got hit with a lot of rain which took a toll on our courts. I want to thank Chris Garcia for going the extra mile in getting us back up and running without too much downtime. Also, if you see a new face in the evenings and Sundays, its our new maintenance guy William (Will) Smith. He has a background in landscape and irrigation which will be a great help with the courts. Jim Scott, Tennis Director We have some of our new Yonex demo rackets here now. If you’re looking to upgrade, give the new models a try. A new racket or restring will always keep your game in top form. For those of you who are new to LHPYC, take advantage of your complimentary 30-minute lesson. This is a great way to meet our professional staff and have them point you in the right direction for getting involved. To reserve your spot, please e-mail our Director of Tennis, Jim Scott, at [email protected]. Last but not least, if you have any questions or would like to schedule lessons or events, please don’t hesitate to let Jim know. We are here to make your LHPYC experience the best. See you on the courts!!

FROM THE MARINA Ahoy there, fellow boaters! As the Marina Director of LH PYC, I would like to take a moment to remind you all that hurricane season is just around the corner. Now, I know that hurricane prep can seem like a daunting task but fear not! I'm here to provide you with a few tips to make the process more enjoyable. Secure Your Vessel - First and foremost, make sure your boat is secure. This means removing any loose items from the deck, tying down anything that cannot be removed, and ensuring that your lines are properly secured to the dock. The last thing you want is for your boat to go adrift in a hurricane! Stock Up on Supplies - It's always a good idea to stock up on supplies before a hurricane hits. This includes things like non-perishable food, water, batteries, and first aid supplies. And don't forget to stock up on plenty of adult beverages - after all, hurricanes are no fun without a little bit of rum! Create a Hurricane Plan - Make sure you have a plan in place for what you'll do in the event of a hurricane. This includes deciding whether you'll stay on your boat or evacuate, where you'll go if you do evacuate, and how you'll communicate with loved ones during the storm. Please be sure to sign the Hurricane Waiver - If you plan on keeping your boat in the marina during a named storm, it's important that you sign the Hurricane Waiver. This ensures that you understand the risks associated with keeping your boat in the marina during a hurricane and that you take full responsibility for any damage that may occur. Now, I know hurricane prep may not be the most exciting thing in the world, but it's important to take it seriously. So, let's all work together to ensure that our boats and our marina are safe and secure during hurricane season. And remember, if all else fails, just grab a drink, and ride out the storm - after all, it's always 5 o'clock somewhere! Stay safe! Toni Merlino Marina Director

CRUISE GROUP YA of the CHT “WET DREAM” I am excited to introduce your fellow Cruise Group Members, LHPYC Governor, and personal friends of mine Victor Bruzzone and Helene March! - Cruise Group Chair, Michael Holmes Member Name: Victor Bruzzone & Helene March Name of Boat: “Wet Dream” Wet Dream (the new one for those that know us) is a 66’ Sunseeker Manhattan, built in 2019, which we recently purchased. It features 4 staterooms (with the master in the center and at full beam) 3 full heads and a crew cabin with its own head. She is a dream boat, a Wet Dream. Helene and I have been avid boaters for many years. I, myself, owning my first boat at the age of 14 – a 16’ row boat with a transom – the original Wet Dream. By the time I had the money saved up for the motor, a used 20’ Glastron bowrider with a 90 Mercury came up for sale which cost less than the motor I was looking at buying. It was all uphill from there, going to a 22’, 28’, 36’, 48’ and now 66’. However, the largest boat I had the honor of steering was 564’. Thank Goodness for tugboats and pilots. The ocean has been in my family for 4 generations that I know of. My son Anthony in more than capable of taking a boat out having sailed with me since he was a baby. Amazingly, Helene has gotten me to hire a Captain from time to time, so I get to enjoy the company we often have aboard for the day. Helene has been an avid boater since the day she could afford her first boat –Bossy Boots – a 32’ Maxum Cabin Cruiser. She spent many years plowing the waters of the Great Lakes, particularly Chicago where she comes from. In the 35 years she has been boating, she moved up in size 4 times and has now pinnacled to this 66’. Helene has been a member of the Cruise Group for almost 2 years while I have been enjoying the Group from its inception. It is through the Cruise Group that Helene and I met – and she still wants to be with me. Being a part of the Cruise Group, wehavemet so many wonderful people and with the trips,we learned a lot.During these voyages, we would think about what we needed to take our cruising to the next level. So…..the Sunseeker Manhattan was our perfect fit. We are now ready for the Bahamas and beyond.

Whether you're a professional chef or just a home cook looking for inspiration, there are plenty of delicious dishes to try in May. Here are some of our top picks: 1. Asparagus May is peak season for asparagus, and this versatile vegetable can be used in various dishes. Try roasting it with olive oil and garlic for a simple side dish, or add it to risotto, pasta, or omelets for a burst of flavor and color. 2. Rhubarb Rhubarb is another seasonal favorite in May, and it's perfect for desserts like pies, crumbles, and tarts. Its tart flavor pairs well with sweet strawberries or honey, and it can also be used to make jams and compotes. 3. Grilled meats and vegetables As the weather warms up, it's time to fire up the grill and cook delicious meats and vegetables. Try marinating chicken or steak in a spicy rub, or grillsome fresh veggies like zucchini, peppers, and onions for a colorful and healthy meal. 4. Fresh herbs May is the perfect time to start growing your own herbs or pick them up fresh from the farmer's market. Herbs like basil, mint, and cilantro can add a burst of flavor to salads, soups, and sauces, while rosemary and thyme are perfect for roasting meats and vegetables. 5. Strawberries Sweet, juicy strawberries are at their peak in May, and they're perfect for desserts, breakfasts, and snacks. Try slicing them up and serving them with yogurt and granola for a healthy breakfast, or mix them into a classic strawberry shortcake for a decadent dessert. 6. Spring greens Spring greens like arugula, spinach, and watercress are at their peak in May, and they're perfect for salads, sandwiches, and wraps. Try mixing them with fresh herbs, roasted veggies, and a tangy vinaigrette for a healthy and flavorful meal. Overall, May is a wonderful time of year for fresh, seasonal ingredients, and there are plenty of delicious dishes to try, be sure to take advantage of all the amazing flavors that May has to offer!
