YOUTH ACTIVITIES
Last month was full of Christmas fun at the Club and I am so
thankful for all that came out for Kids Day. We set record
numbers with over 40 kids! I want everyone to mark on your
calendars Friday February 21st for our Drive in Movie Night.
I am excited to work with the Youth Committee to bring you
a fabulous night of fun and food! We will be playing one of
my favorite childhood movies “The Sandlot”. It’s a classic
movie from 1993 that many youth of today need to see. We
are planning a delicious menu to bring out the kid in all of us.
FROM THE POOL
I would like to send a huge congratulations to our swim
team that competed in the Santa Claus Holiday Spirit
Invitational. Aaron Urtubia competed in his first meet ever
and swam 27.26 in his 50 Freestyle. Victoria Urtubia
dropped 3 seconds in her 50 freestyle and 4 seconds in her
100 freestyle, both were personal bests! Mimi Spencer
placed 8th overall in her age group in the 50 breaststroke
and competed in the 100 freestyle for the first time!
Lindsay Selbach made time cuts for 4 events and Mila
Alegria made time cuts for 3 events at our upcoming
Holiday Championships meet.
I’m so proud of them and as they have been working so
hard and improving their skills. I would encourage any of
our current swim parents or those looking to join our team
to come out to our first meet of the year on January 31st-
February 2nd at the Boca High School pool. Our team is
growing steadily so please feel free to contact me and bring
your child out for a free swimming assessment. I am also
available for private adult and childrens swim lessons at the

ARC BROWARD
One of our favorite non-profits we are proud to support, turned the tables on us
last month. We were surprised and honored when ARC Broward Advisory
Council representatives showed up at the Club to present us with a Certificate of
Appreciation. The partnership between LHPYC and ARC Culinary & ARC

WWII VETERAN ALVIN “GREG” ROSS
HONORED AT DOLPHINS GAME
Long time members Cindy & Larry Trotter are the proud daughter and
son-in-law of a HERO living among us, Alvin Gregory Ross. On December 22nd,
we were so thrilled to assist Mr. Ross in getting some much-deserved recognition
and appreciation. He was honored on the field alongside some of his brothers
and sisters in arms at the Miami Dolphins game.
WWII Veterans are of the greatest generation and this man fought in the most
treacherous of regions and conditions for the freedom we all now enjoy.
Trained by Army Rangers, this Special Ops
Staff Sergeant fought in Central Europe and
Rhineland (Germany) from October 1942 to
March 1946. He is the recipient of MANY
awards including (but not limited to), Silver
Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and an
Expert Badge.
We THANK YOU Greg for the sacrifices you
and your family made for us so many years
ago. It is not, and will never be forgotten.

For the 3rd year in a row, you showed up big for our December Toy Drive. This year,
we shared the donations between 2 very deserving local charities.

500 children have been adopted by their wonderful and committed foster parents.
These kids now have their Forever Families.
