Tammy Shoffstall

Hello, I am Tammy Shoffstall, and I have served as your
Director of Finance and Human Resources since December
2018. Before coming to the club, I served in the hospitality
industry for almost twenty years, in luxury hotels such as The
Kessler Collection, The sbe Collection, The Colony in Palm
Beach, as well as Hilton and Marriott properties. Prior to
serving in the hotel industry, I worked for Sears Contract
Sales, the oldest company in America.

I earned my Bachelor of Science, and Master of Science from Southern Wesleyan University in Greenville South Carolina,
and currently enrolled in University of Phoenix, working on my Doctorate of Management, focusing on Organizational
Leadership and hope to earn my degree by the end of 2021.

I grew up in Augusta, Georgia, home of the
Masters National Golf Tournament, and
hometown of the Late James Brown, also
known as the King of Soul. Augusta,
Georgia once served as the destination spot
for America before Florida developed
destinations. The Augusta National Golf
Course is breathtaking, and one of the most
prestigious sports events in the world.

I enjoy getting involved in my community,
volunteering my time, and advocating for
those in need of assistance. I am a proud
lifetime Paul Harris member in Rotary
(service before self), and served on the Board
and Treasurer for The Midland’s Authority for Conventions, Tourism and Sports in Columbia SC for three years, as well as
on the Board of Directors for The Lexington Chamber of Commerce in SC. I currently serve on the Board and Treasurer for
The National Association of Adult Survivors of Child Abuse, and I am also a Blog-talk radio host.

My favorite hobbies include collecting arrowheads, and other prehistoric artifacts; I have an impressive collection of points,
tomahawks, drills, knives, and a medicine grinding bowl, most of which I dug up and hunted in my younger days. I think it
is amazing to find a piece of lost history, a tool someone used to hunt food, protect his family, and live off the land. My other
passion is hunting amateur art in thrift stores, yard sales, and other unusual places.

I am proud to be a part of the Lighthouse Point Yacht Club management team and strive to serve the members with genuine
enthusiasm.

Featured Boat: Fine A Lee
Owned by: Lee and Mark Geller
Fine A Lee is a 58’ Viking Princess built in 2011. We
purchased our vessel new in 2012. It has twin Man 1100
common rail turbo charged engines that allows us to
cruise at speeds over 30 knots.
Fine A Lee features superior construction, a 44” draft and
a roof that opens for fresh air and gives us great views
both day and night. She has an electronic garage that
houses our 10' jet tender. We have three staterooms and
two full heads.
Most of the year we live in New York on Long Island. We
hope to be spending more time at the Club in the future.
When we are in Florida we truly enjoy our life at the club
and in the LPYC marina. Our Cruise Group adventures
are terrific and so are the friends we’ve made.
Thank You,

CRUISING GROUP

Our first outing of 2021 was in Hobe Sound at anchor, well
attended by over 40 people.

Chef Ed sent up food and Zack and Gary prepared a great
cookout for us at Johnathan Dickenson State Park. We have
many cruises planned for the remainder of the year. We
have a great family oriented Cruise Group, so if you are
looking for some boating fun just let me know.

The Art Gallery of the Lighthouse Point Yacht Club is pleased to

showcase the art of Fernando de Jesus Oliveira for The Point’s

2021 May issue. Oliveira, known as The Maestro Ferjo, isthe

dream meets reality surrealist artist who creates a whimsical

world of contradictions in his paintings. A fish and a Strawberry

adorn the canvas to represent life; a butterfly is suspended in the

air to represent freedom. And such is the multifaceted work of

Brazilian-born artist Ferjo who creates art in his signature

Surrealist style that makes up a body of work as diverse as the

items floating in his artwork.“A teacher at my school told me I

of LHPYC had something that nobody had—this ability to paint portraits
and landscapes,” the artist says. “It’s more difficult because there
are millions of artists who paint classically. That’s why I paint

Daniel J. O’Keefe • Fine Art ‘dream and reality.’ There’s almost a classical theme, and at the
same time, it’s a dream when you look at it.”

516-383-4000 • danieljokeefe.com Born Fernando de Jesus Oliveira, Ferjo was raised in Brazil,

where his artistic skills were recognized early on. In 1974, the

young artist was invited to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts on an exchange program after being commissioned to produce a

portrait of an American family. The artist considers his time in school beneficial but believes true artistic talent comes from within. “No

school can make a musician or an artist,” he says. “What I have is a gift given by God. “But the school gave me a lot of experience and skill

to face the world today”. After graduation, Ferjo toured Europe, and by the 1980s, he had established a distinct style—and fallen in love

with a woman Leonardo Da Vinci as well. “I have a fascination for Mona Lisa, and I’ve been painting her since the 1980s,” he explains. “I

have 136 Mona Lisa’s, some of them in museums in Germany, Brazil, and the United States.” Ferjo has painted the Mona Lisa’s in his

distinctive vivid Surrealist-Realistic style heightened by pure emotion.

“There is something about the maestro that no one else really has,” says Katherina Perry, his
publisher since 1994. “It’s a touch of magic. The colors, the way he puts them together, it
gives the painting life. It brings comfort and joy, and it gives people a smile.” But for Ferjo,
the positive reaction from others is the result of his constant need to complete a piece that
warms his own heart. “First of all, when I do the painting, I don’t think about anybody else; I
think about myself and give it the best I can for me to feel happy about that piece,” he says.
“The turnout is positive when people look at it and say, 'I love it.'” Even in an economic
crunch on art sales, Ferjo has no time to halt the production of his dreamlike artwork. The
married father of three was also honored this year when he was published in a book
featuring the most influential Brazilians. The artist is pleased to have steady work in a field
he loves. “I am very delighted,” he says. “I see how things are going, but I never stopped
painting. I have a gallery that is waiting for more pieces. Is there a time for me to finish the
painting? There is no such thing.” Ferjo’s dedication to his art is what keeps him afloat, and he’s proud to say that many of his collectors
have decided his art is a “necessity.” “I succeed not because of the price I want in Brazil or here; I succeed because of my determination to
succeed,” he says. “I love to paint, and I suspect the door will be open for me.” At age 53, Ferjo shows no signs of quitting the work he loves.
“My paint is as unique as falling footsteps,” he says. “People tell me; I have a magic touch.”

The Art Gallery at Light House Point is currently featuring a number of Gallery artists. All the art is for sale.
For information about the art please contact Daniel J. O’Keefe at 516-383-4000 or Diane at the front desk.

IN OUR COMMUNITY

May, marked officially as Military Appreciation Month, is a special
month for both those in and out of the military. Not only do we pause on
Memorial Day to remember the sacrifice and service of those who gave all,
but the month also holds several other military anniversaries and events,
including Military Spouse Appreciation Day and Armed Forces Day.

Memorial Day – Local Ceremonies

Memorial Day commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service.
It is a holiday many of us spend doing family gatherings, backyard BBQs or enjoying a nice
evening out with friends and family. However you choose to celebrate Memorial Day, we
encourage you to do so by honoring those who have lost their lives for our great freedoms.
