8 A MESSAGE FROM THE OWNER February 2024 On behalf of the Club, we hope you all have had a wonderful start to the year. I want to express my gratitude to our club members for their outstanding contributions to our Holiday Gift Fund for the employees. Your generosity made our staff's holiday season truly exceptional. Recap of Our Charity Endeavors in December 2024 A big shout-out and thank you goes to our committee chairs, members, and the LHPYC Board for their unwavering dedication to the Club. You all are the backbone of what sets our Club apart, whether it's through events, community involvement, or Club support. All of you continuously back the Club through events, travel, and more, a heartfelt thank you from myself, management, and our staff. Speaking of philanthropy at LHPYC, I'm blown away by how everyone came together to support the two featured charities in December of 2023. The 4Kids fundraising campaign, led by our fantastic Entertainment Committee, not only surpassed its goal but raised $50,000! The incredible LHPYC support for a local charity providing Hope, Healing, and Homes for children in need in Broward is outstanding. Our LHPYC Cruise Group took charge in raising funds and awareness for the Staniel Cay St. Luke’s Medical Clinic Renovation and Expansion project. The camaraderie among our boating members was evident as we raised 200k from our Cruise Group members who understand and appreciate the need to spearhead the fundraising effort for this beachfront island clinic. The St. Luke’s Clinic is critical to all our safety and peace of mind while in the Exuma chain of islands. It was a stunning achievement, made possible not just by donors but also by those who contributed auction items that spurred generosity. This effort has cemented the relationship between LHPYC, Staniel Cay Community, and SCYC for generations to come.We will be hosting more fundraising efforts in 2024 to help us reach our goal of $500,000 for the St. Luke’s Clinic. If you are a boater or would like to contribute to St. Luke’s Click, please call 954.942.7244 EXT. 231.Our 501 C3 has been approved by the state of Florida is only awaiting its approval from the IRS. This is great news for the efforts we have made and will make this year. Huge thanks to both the Entertainment and Cruise Group Committee for their generosity and dedication to these causes. We are beyond grateful to our LHPYC Donors who helped us achieve these impactful totals. Changing lives isn't an everyday affair, but together, LHPYC is making a significant positive impact. Upcoming Travel We look forward to having members enjoying a ski week in Lake Tahoe at Heavenly Mountain. The ski week is a great opportunity to hit the slopes, hang out with new friends, and enjoy all the mountain has to offer. Which, in this case, is a lot of snowfall, good cocktails, and prime skiing. We will send photos of the trip as five LHPYC families head out from February 11th to 17th. As many of you know, in May, the Cruise Group usually invites our members to join them in Hawks Cay. However, in the spirit of keeping things new and fresh at the Club, we decided to change our typical May getaway to Key West! We will be visiting during the Key West Songwriter Festival from May 2nd to May 5th, which promises live music, Club camaraderie, and the best weather Key West has to offer. Even though it’s our first year in Key West, we have planned an awesome itinerary for you to enjoy. Featuring a Kickin’ Off the Key’s Happy Hour, Tunes in The Tropics group dinner featuring a live dueling piano show, a slew of children's activities, and Miss Katie to keep your kids in the evenings till late so that you may enjoy your weekend in the Keys.To wrap up the weekend with a bang we have also planned a Sunday brunch! You can check out the whole itinerary, booking details, and the itinerary on pages 18 and 19. We are also offering a pre- and post-trip extension to our Cruise Group Members for a quick trip to Fort Jefferson in Dry Tortugas. We will be sending dockage options to break up the journey from home to Key West and back. If you have not been to Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas, I highly recommend you come along. Please see the Club and Cruise Group travel schedule posted on page 16 so you can plan (Continued on Page 9)
9 A MESSAGE FROM THE OWNER (Continued from Page 8) Terry Paterson Owner & Interim General Manager ahead. My family and I go on almost every trip because we enjoy them so much. Please join us! The big ones that normally get the largest attendance of 150 to over 200 members are the Keys (this year Key West) in May, Bimini in August, and Ocean Reef in October. Tennis See our Tennis Director’s article on page 29 where Jim talks about all the events we have happening on the courts. I want to congratulate the winners of the Club Tennis Championships – Women’s Doubles Kristen Kiss and Susan Mishkin. Men’s Doubles Dan Jacobson and Ayman Keindl. Mixed Doubles Kristen Kiss and Ayman Keindl. What a great event it was! Our women’s leagues are crushing it as usual, and our weekly group events, Cardio Tennis on Tuesdays, Tiki Tennis on Fridays, and Feeding Frenzy on Saturdays are so full that we now have a waiting list to play. Its great to see all our tennis players at the Shipwrecked Bar after Fridays play. Development Update We had planned a State of the Club address for February but have now moved it to March 22nd at 6:30PM on the Flag Deck where I will be answering questions. At that point, I expect to have all permits finally ready to be issued, an update on construction financing, and a demolition/start date. It’s been a long road. We greatly appreciate everybody’s patience, and we know that’s it’s taking longer than any of us would’ve liked to have seen or expected, but we’re close to the finish line. Thank you all for your patience. Once demolition and construction start, nothing changes regarding the current operations of the Club. We are all well settled in on how we operate during this construction phase. I have had a lot of questions about the east dock construction that seems to have stalled. We have run into an issue with the company installing the dock and we are working it out. It unfortunately does not follow the plan, is not straight, varies in width, and is up to 14” out of place, so I put a halt on them until they fix it. We recognized the problem and brought it to their attention before concrete was poured. We instructed them to refrain from pouring any more concrete and to address the identified issues. However, they proceeded at 7 am in the morning before our Project Manager arrived on-site at 8 am, and they poured the concrete. Certainly, we may have differences of opinion, but after surveying the docks and obtaining an engineer's report, we have easily substantiated our position. This doesn’t affect the general membership or construction, but it does affect the Clubs ability to rent the east dock space and it does not look good. We hope to resolve this soon. Membership Please all welcome all the new members into the Club. We are gaining two to four new families every month. Remember that these families all go through our vetting process and are great people who fit right in with our Club culture. Being friendly and introducing yourself will always be well received so please do it. We are a private Club not open to the public. Take advantage of this opportunity to expand your circle of friends or acquaintances and create a great atmosphere at the bar, on the tennis court, in the gym, or during our travels. Feel free to ask our staff for a member’s names if you need them. Let’s have a great 2024. It’s definitely going to be great for LHPYC and our future.

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS Who’s on the Cover Amy & Gary Nenner Odette & Bjorn Hansen Amanda & Michael Maruri It is hard for us to believe that 40 years ago this month, a reluctant young woman met a successful television executive on a blind date. Having parents who also met on a blind date, encouragement to take this chance was homegrown. While it would be dishonest to say we experienced love at first sight, “Like” at first sight was enough to propel us to continue to get to know one another, resulting in more than 36 years of marriage. At the 25-year mark of our marriage, we decided to renew our vows and reflect on the highs and lows that life throws into one's path. Our celebration shared a simple theme that still drives us forward today and keeps us together... " LOVE MATTERS”. So, our message this February and always, whether between spouses, friends, or family... LOVE MATTERS, celebrate it with those in your embrace.

We are offering complimentary tickets for children under the age of three and Happy-Hour Pricing for cocktails for the adults in attendance. I would have to say that this is one of my favorites; I love seeing their faces light up with each animal that comes out or how excited each child is when called upon to help the animal trainer. Send in your RSVP as soon as you can and prepare for a wild and tasty experience. it with the correct techniques. Our first Learn the Fundamentals is on Wednesday, February 21st from 5:30PM to 6:30PM. Teens will learn the correct techniques needed to achieve their fitness goals taught by myself. We invite them to enjoy a delicious and healthy meal at our weekly pasta night after the event!

28 FROM THE MARINA Ahoy, Lighthouse Point Yacht Club members! February is upon us, and it's time to set sail into a month filled with exciting events and maritime camaraderie. Grab your captain's hat and join us as we embark on a nautical journey through the highlights of this seafaring month. Kicking off the month in grand maritime style is the annual Keepers Day Parade hosted by the city of Lighthouse Point. On February 3rd, the streets will be alive with the theme of "High Tides and Good Vibes," inviting everyone to bask in the positive energy that comes with the flow of the tides. My favorite part is seeing our crew engage with our community and putting smiles on the little one's faces. Music, candy, and treats also help in creating smiles. There's nothing quite like the joyous faces of children as they catch sight of our decorated float and eagerly collect their maritime treasures. It's a heartwarming experience that adds an extra layer of community spirit to the day. Happy Valentine's to all our favorite boaters. February 14th is a great time to take your loved ones for a boating adventure. 33 of LHPYC Daniel J. O’Keefe • Fine Art 516-383-4000 • danieljokeefe.com The Art Gallery of Lighthouse Point Yacht Club is featuring artist Margaret Rasp’e for the 2024 February issue of The Point magazine. Born in Wroclaw, Poland, Rasp’e grew up in southern Germany, studying art in the 1950s in Munich before settling in Berlin with her husband. Her budding practice came to a stand still as marriage and motherhood forced Rasp’e into the traditional role of the housewife. After her dirvoice in the late 1960s left her of meager resources, she began taking in artists and theorists of the Fluxus and Vennese Actionism schools. Many of these figures became became lasting companions and encouraged Rasp’e to resume her practice. Rasp’e’s so-called camera helmet films, which date to the early 70s, are among her first pieces of this period. Comprising point-of-view shots as the artist prepared schnitzel, washed dishes, or gutted a chicken, they overthrough with anger with both the patriarchal structures that dominated her everyday life and her own failure to resit the oppression and alienation that so through thoroughly trapped her. Rasp’e also worked with photography, performance, text, and drawing. For several years, she devoted four hours a day to “automatic drawing”, not to conjure the unconscious a’ la the Surrealists, but to surrender to the absolute lack of intention, the numbing automatisms, that otherwise dominated her domestic labor under capitalism. In the 80s and 90s, Rasp’e began to explore nature as an artistic medium. At the time when ecology was hardly a buzzword in the arts, she placed wool in riverbeds to draw vines of blue clematis, branches carfefully gathered from her garden became columns that – in a reference to the wooden architecture of Mycenaean Greeks – linked heaven and earth. Rasp’e’s keen eye for slow, hidden processes and automated actions and her unwavering efforts to make them visible in her art at once gentle and disturbing. Margaret Rasp’e produced a sensitive and profounddly uncompromising body of work that has, until very recently, received only scant attention. Credits: Pia Marie Remmers.
