Steve & Dana Upshaw

• We have 4 wonderful children, 3 of which are in
college.

• We are a family of die hard college football lovers
and enjoy coming together with our kids at A&M
games as we have season tickets and Ohio State
games when we can.

• We moved to Florida nearly 6 years ago from
Stamford, CT for Steve’s job and live in Parkland.
Steve is the CEO of Cinch Home Services based in
Boca Raton. I am the Chief Revenue Officer for The
Remi Group, headquartered in Charlotte, NC.

• When we aren’t enjoying football, we love to travel
although haven’t been doing much of that this year.
We also spend a lot of time on our boat which is
what brought us to LHPYC.

• We were previously at Marina One.
• We just sold our previous boat are awaiting delivery

of our new Princess V55 which was unfortunately
delayed due to COVID.
• We love boating, have met a lot of people and find
it’s a great way to entertain friends and family as
there is never a shortage of people visiting us.

Youth

I would like to apologize to all the parents and youth
that were looking forward to our annual Holiday Kids

an abundance of caution over the holiday we decided to
be extra careful with our children and not host the event.
I hope everyone had an amazing holiday season with
family and friends and I look froward to planning more

tuned to email blasts as things seems to change from
week to week. We cannot risk the health of our children
just to put on an event, but I will be working with my

continue our youth program. We are looking into

IN OUR COMMUNITY

Wreaths Across America

Volunteers from Honor Flight South Florida and LHYPC joined the Young Marines on Saturday
December 18th for Wreaths Across America. With appropriate Covid safety precautions, we laid
wreaths at the veteran’s graves at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Pompano Beach to honor the
memory of these heroes.
For more information on ways to honor local veterans during these difficult times, please contact me
directly.

TOY DRIVE

For the 4th year in a row, you showed up BIG for our December Toy Drive.

Unwrapped toys were collected in the lobby for weeks leading up to Christmas and Hanukkah and were
delivered to Broward Children’s Center. This is an organization we know well and have the upmost
respect for. Due to Covid, many of these incredible kids have been isolated from family and visitors for
going on 10 months now. Especially during the Holidays, this is extremely difficult.

Our lobby “boat” collection area was loaded up repeatedly and because of you, EVERY single item on
BOTH BCC Wish Lists were purchased. This mean that every child residing at BCC is going to have the
Christmas of their dreams. I am crying as I write this from an overwhelming feeling of gratitude and
thankfulness. I will be sure and share photos and videos of the kids SMILES with you when I receive them.

Kathy Baker

Kathy Baker has been a staple in the Club for almost seven
years now. Her motto: Be polite, ask thoughtful questions
and try to learn everyone’s name. Some important things she
has learned in the industry is to be self-aware and find ways
to motivate yourself and others. Through COVID-19, she
was able to switch gears, stay positive and help create new
ways to keep all of us safe.
On to the hard part. Kathy will be leaving LHPYC after the
holidays. She is moving back to Jacksonville to be near her
daughter and her grandchildren. Kathy, we will miss you
tremendously! We wish you the best in your new adventures
and hope you will come visit us. Thank you for bringing so
much compassion and talent to the Club.

As the 2021 New Year begins, The Art Gallery of Light House
Point Yacht Club is pleased to showcase four French scenic
landscape original hard woodblock prints of art created by
Zuber. Zuber created panoramic murals using wallpaper panels
that are still fabricated today entirely by hand using the original
handcrafted woodblocks. Zuber possesses over 150,000
hand-carved woodblocks, which were made between 1797 and
1830, and each is classified as a national treasure of France.

So we might ask ourselves, why classify this wallpaper as art?

of LHPYC My answer would be, “it’s not just the wallpaper, and the strips
of wallpaper are art because the scenes are printed from the real
art itself, the hard woodblocks carved by the artisans in the late

scenic landscape papers are arguable the most spectacular. This
unique wallpaper created a breathtaking panoramic experience

with all the walls in a room covered with non-repeating scenes. These mural-like papers

transformed rooms, providing the opportunity for viewers to be swept away to an exotic place

or immersed in an exciting period in history. These scenic Zuber papers enjoyed a golden era

both in Europe and North America from the first decade of the 1800s until the 1960s, though

they remained in print well after this period. Zuber et Cie is the only remaining firm that

fabricates these papers today.

The four early American scenic landscape panels showcased at The Light House Point Yacht
Club Art Gallery were part of a complete Zuber wood-block wallpaper scene. The four panels
depict scenes that are not sequential; rather they are undivided scenes from the same collection.
Jacqueline Kennedy installed the identical Zuber early American panoramic scenic landscape in
the White House Diplomatic Reception Room in 1961. The paper is called “ Views of North
America” and was first printed in1834 by the founder of Zuber, Jean Zuber et Cie in Rixheim,
Alsace. The complete set of 32 scenes based on engravings of the 1820s shows America
landscapes that were particularly admired by Europeans and the wealthy North American
Aristocrats. Many fine homes still adorn these fine Zuber panoramic landscapes today.

The Art Gallery at Light House Point is currently featuring a number of Gallery artists. All the art is for sale.
For information about the art please contact Daniel J. O’Keefe at 516-383-4000 or Diane at the front desk.
