Merry Christmas everybody, and Happy New Year.
We expect 2021 to be a great year. Even though 2020
has been different, it has actually been a good year for
the club. New Membership has been tremendous,
increasing our ranks of solid good people at LHPYC.
Member comradery has been at an all-time high,
especially the hundreds of members that have been on
our Cruise Group trips open to the entire membership.
We are sad that we had to lose many longtime
employees this year due to cutting service hours and
doing a quarter of the F & B sales that we are used to.
The positive side is that in cutting, we have ensured
that all staff have been well taken care of elsewhere. We
now have the staff and blueprint in place for what you
can expect from F & B while the new Clubhouse is
under construction.

2021 here we come! This Club’s future is bright, thanks
to all of you.

CORNER

Ok. Let's put this year to bed....
2020 gave us some challenging times but we, as a club, got through it. The chef-driven bi-weekly fresh menus
helped keep all entertained. The small-themed events were entertaining. But my team is ready to move
forward and get back to making dishes for the events we all miss.

Producing dishes with quality and love for our favorite occasions. I feel we are close to this to
this happening with all your help. Follow the club rules. Masks up when not seated or drinking.
No handshakes, fist bumps or for the love of all of us, "no kissing "lol. I can name a few......

So, let's talk about Pasta Night. I am working on the logistics on how to make this happen.
Thoughts are a table-side pasta presentation $50. Reservations are mandatory and if your party
misses your time, you will be moved to the end of the reservation list. We will have a secondary pasta station
prepared for chef-assisted serving. It will be a smaller version of what we used to do because of obvious
reasons. Again, a work in progress.

Your culinary team is very thankful for all your accolades about “truly the best food in any club in all of
Florida” and I would truly say, all of America. We love stupid over the top great food.

So, of all my friends and members that didn't make it to Hawks Cay...
I give you the recipe for Avocado Toast.

as peach margarita, spiced watermelon, berry basil and
sun dried orange margaritas. We also modified our drink
menu for the Tiki Bar. We now have available grill and
chill, jalapeño cucumber, watermelon spice, coconut
lychee fizz and red and white sangria. Don't forget that
Happy Hour is every day from 4-6pm. I highly
recommend that you try the spiced watermelon margarita
that you can make at home. You simply just blend the
watermelon in a blender and take a slice of jalapeño and
smash it in a cup. Then add a shot of tequila and a little
agave, and now you have a wonderful Spiced Watermelon

COMMODORE’S CORNER

I would like to introduce Chris and Denise Bartlett,
an active young couple in our Cruise Group.

YACHT
of the

Featured Boat: Enjoy the Ride
Owned by: Chris and Denise Bartlett

Enjoy the Ride is a Monterey 400 SY with a Twin Volvo Penta
IPS 500 propulsion system. It is a perfect cruiser for spending
the day out on the water, grilling out at Lake Santa Barbara or
Lake Boca, where you can often find Chris & Denise. With
Enjoy the Ride’s 300 nautical mile range at a cruising speed of 31
knots, it is also great for a quick getaway to the islands.

Chris grew up in Georgia Lake boating as a kid on his parents
22’ bow rider. He purchased his first Yacht Certified Cruiser,
Temptation, a 34’ Bayliner Conquest in 2003 and kept it at Lake
Lanier. It was the perfect learner boat and where he first
realized his passion for the “boat life”. He spent three years
boating on Lake Lanier before moving to Ft. Lauderdale in
2006 and purchasing Shelby Too, a 330 Sea Ray Sundancer. In
2014 he purchased Enjoy the Ride and named it such as a
reminder to not let the hustle and bustle of everyday life stress
you out and just sit back and “enjoy the ride”.

Denise is a native Floridian who was introduced to the yacht
life when she met Chris in 2016. In 2017, Chris and Denise
moved to Lighthouse Point and joined the Lighthouse Point
Yacht Club. Wanting to use Enjoy the Ride more, they joined
the Cruising Club as soon as it was formed and have taken
several trips with them including Bimini and Ocean Reef. Enjoy
the Ride was a life saver a couple months into quarantine! Chris
and Denise enjoyed getting out on the water, cruising down
the intracoastal, anchoring off for a fun game of UNO and
grilling lunch.

About BCC

Since 1971, Broward Children’s Center, located in Pompano Beach,
has been providing medical, educational, therapeutic, recreational,
daily living, and advocacy services through their network of care to
infants, children, and young adults with special health care needs.
The mission at BCC is to respond to the unique needs of every child
through programs that promote privacy, respect, independence,
dignity, and engagement. By listening to and learning from the
children and families they serve, BCC has grown from a
single-program establishment to one that serves over 1,200
individuals each year.

“Jayden was my absolute favorite. He passed away a 19
couple of years ago from a heart condition he should
have died from as a baby. Because of BCC, he lived a
much longer and happy life. Everyone loved Jayden.”

(Continued from page 18)

of LHPYC This holiday season the Art Gallery of Light House Point
Yacht Club features four original works of art (color etchings)
created by Salvador Dali. Dali’s series of color etchings (1981)
were inspired by the author’s life, depicted in the novel by
Cervantes’ ‘Don Quixote’, first published in 1605 and known
as one of the world’s greatest works of literature and the first
modern novel. Each etching has been signed in pencil by
Dali, numbered (1/ 150), and framed to conservation
standards. The plates have been canceled and this body of
work was and will never issued again. Signed on April 15,
1982 by Sigmund Rothschild, A.S.A., F.S.V.A., Appraiser.

Daniel J. O’Keefe • Fine Art Salvador Dali was a Spanish Painter, Sculptor, Filmmaker,
516-383-4000 • danieljokeefe.com Printmaker, and Performance Artist. Born on May 11, 1904 in
Figueres, Cataionia, Spain and died on January 23, 1989

where he was born. I first became acquainted with Dali’s art when I was in my early-twenties. I read “Dali By Dali” while studying

art at the University of Eastern New Mexico. I loved the art that Dali made as it drew me to his Surrealism both in his art and

personal life. It was toward the end of Dali’s life when he created his ‘Don Quixote’ series.

‘Don Quixote’ tells of the adventures of an idealistic, self-appointed knight, who trusts his spirit to guide him through life, and his
faithful companion Sancho Panza, a simple peasant who strives at all times to keep both feet firmly on the grown. It is in the
continual contrast between the knight ‘Don Quixote’ and his squire Sancho Panza, between the idealist and the pragmatist, the
dreamer and the realist, that the novel’s richness of meaning arises, it’s power to provoke thought, to elicit laughter and to reveal
truth. For the characters of ‘Don Quixote’ are complete in themselves, and we recognize aspects of ourselves in them, yet they also
represent the two sides of human nature, and we see them as emblematic of the fantasy and reality of which life itself is interwoven.

The four color etchings by Dali are offered as a (grouping of four) and will be located in the LHPYC Art Gallery with a detailed
description of each work of art in relation to the novel ‘Don Quixote’.

The Art Gallery at Light House Point is currently featuring a number of Gallery artists. All the art is for sale.
For information about the art please contact Daniel J. O’Keefe at 516-383-4000 or Diane at the front desk.
