UPCOMING HELPING REBUILD TEAM OF LIFE CENTER
We expect the next couple months to be very productive in our promise
to rebuild the Team of Life Center, so that Big Mama can reach her full
potential! In case you missed our story in the May issue of The Point, I
will recap here. Lighthouse Point Yacht Club & Paterson Project Management are organizing a plan to help a local woman with a huge heart,
known as “Big Mama”. If you are not aware of who this woman is, you can read about her and her charity here:
https://www.facebook.com/teamoflife/. Back in 2009, Extreme Makeover Home
Edition came in and built a small “house” to be used as the home base for the
Team of Life charity, a place where these children can learn, be nourished, and in
some cases sleep safe and sound. They built it right next to her primary residence.
Five months ago, there was an electrical fire caused by a faulty transformer that
had been damaged in Hurricane Irma. The entire Team for Life center was
destroyed. Her sons have reached out to FPL, Extreme Makeover, Help Me
Howard, Contractors, TV Stations… you name it. Nobody has offered to help. She
is not asking for help for her own personal home (trust me, it needs help), but only for her charity center so that she can continue to live her
mission & her passion to help others. THIS WOMAN IS ALWAYS UP TO SOMETHING INCREDIBLE. I stopped by to wish her a Happy
Mother’s Day, and as usual, she was catering to others. Mama was hosting a celebration for Mothers in need, giving out home cooked meals and
other necessities. How she manages to DO so much for so many when she literally has nothing… well, it just touches me in a way that I can’t
describe. I am still looking for material, labor, and skills from good Samaritans who would like to get involved. At the end of our rebuild, I will
have TV Stations and Reporters come for the grand reopening. All businesses that pitch in will be featured. We look forward to helping this
selfless woman and her charity rebuild. Please feel free to reach out to me for more information or with any ideas!
HONOR FLIGHT SOUTH FLORIDA HAPPENINGS
July 1 Patriotic Concert - The long-rumored Honor Flight patriotic concert is all set -- Sunday, July 1 at First Baptist Church in Fort
Lauderdale. The Fort Lauderdale Symphonic Winds with 65-70 musicians will play, along with soloist James Perkoswki. The church has a very
patriotic congregation and had its own large 4th of July celebration until a few years ago. So, in a way, we are again giving the congregation a
big 4th of July event. The concert is free, and all donations made will go directly to Honor Flight South Florida and their mission to fly all WWII
& Korean Veterans residing in South Florida to Washington DC to see their Memorials. The concert will be
scheduled from 3-5 p.m., including an intermission. Doors are expected to open at 2 p.m.
July 4 Marlins game - For the first time ever, the Marlins organization under their new Ownership, is giving
Honor Flight South Florida their own special day at the Park! The Marlins vs Tampa Bay game is at 1:10pm and
we need volunteers to escort 30 WWII & Korean Veterans to the game. There will be lunch, then they will be honored on the field, and then
stay for the game. If you are willing and able to drive, push a wheel chair, and talk with these great heroes, please contact me to sign up!
July 21 HFSF to New Orleans - On July 21 we will be making a special trip with 12 WWII Veterans to New Orleans for a private tour of the
phenomenal WWII Museum. We are looking for Guardians for this very long and rewarding day! Contact me for more information.

FISHING FOR THE DREAM... Will help our veterans!
In its 8th year, this popular family event begins with a Captain’s Cocktail
Party and debut of a one-of-a-kind Silent Auction on Friday, June 29th at the
Lighthouse Point Yacht Club, a premier yacht club and multi-million dollar
marina with 70+ slips accommodating yachts up to 120 ft. Fishing begins the
next day on June 30th and ends with a Family-Style BBQ and open bar, Silent
Auction closeout, and a fun-filled Awards Ceremony. Deliver the Dream, a
Fort Lauderdale based non-profit organization, helps restore the lives of
families facing serious illness or crisis through three-day, two-night family
retreats which are free of charge for all attending families regardless of their
economic background. Deliver the Dream also serves Post 9/11 combat
veterans and families who reside in the State of Florida, primarily in the urban
and suburban communities of south and central Florida. As combat veterans
are the primary target population, a number of retreat participants confront
the psychological disabilities associated with the military service.
Approximately 80% of families are low to lower-middle income with over 60%
from minority populations. They have served our country with honor and
sacrifice to their own families. In partnership with south Florida’s MISSION
United, veterans are referred to Deliver the Dream to register for a three-day,
two-night family retreat, all expenses paid. At the retreat, combat veterans
and their families strengthen their capacity for healthy individual and family
functioning. In addition, they connect with housing, employment, medical,
and social supports that promote successful community reintegration.
FISHING FOR THE DREAM family fishing tournament raises the funds to support
this very special retreat. All proceeds from this event will ensure that up to 15
veterans and their families will have an opportunity to mend and recover a
more positive outlook for their future. Many thanks to the Lighthouse Point
Yacht Club for their generous support of this event over the years.
