10 A MESSAGE FROM THE OWNER April 2024 I want to extend my sincere gratitude to all 178 members who attended the State of The Club Address last month on March 22nd. Your presence and active participation in the evening were invaluable to our club's continued growth and success. For those who were unable to attend the meeting, I encourage you to watch the recording of the address via the provided QR code. If you encounter any difficulties accessing the video, please do not hesitate to contact Julia at [email protected] for assistance. I am thrilled to announce that our permits have successfully completed their review process within the city, and we are now poised to receive them once all requirements outlined in our Developer’s Agreement are met. Currently, we are in the final stages of finalizing our funding requirements, which represents the last hurdle before we can proceed with demolition and commence construction. As part of this process, I am in the final stages of selecting a partner lender for the project. We will be providing regular updates on our progress. Regarding travel, our Cruise Group is gearing up for an exciting weekend rendezvous in Hobe Sound. With twenty-two boats and counting attending this trip, it promises to be a memorable experience for all. Our team will be capturing all the fun moments from the weekend and sharing them with you through our social media channels. If you are joining the trip, please ensure you are registered via our form and added to our dedicated WhatsApp Chat. For registration and further details, please reach out to Julia at [email protected]. Bookings for Key West have now concluded, and it's time to ensure that you and your party are registered through our LHPYC Registration Form. This form, accessible via pages 18 & 19 of this newsletter, our travel website (www.LHPYCTravelCommittee.com), or by contacting Julia at [email protected]. The form allows us to gather essential information to make this trip a resounding success. For our Cruise Group Members, we have announced and shared details of the 1st leg of the Exuma trip via email blast and the Cruise Group WhatsApp. If you plan to join this trip, please ensure that you have the necessary documents to reserve your slips before they sell out. We are eagerly anticipating another legendary and memory-building trip to the Exumas. Again, thank you for your continued support and participation in our club's activities and initiatives. We look forward to creating more unforgettable experiences together in the future. Terry Paterson Owner & Interim General Manager

20 Member Spotlight Stacy Pomeroy & June Cavallo My parents and I moved to Lighthouse Point, Florida, in 1963, and we have been members of the Lighthouse Point Yacht Club since I was four years old. I loved going to the club as a child, and now I enjoy playing pickleball and lounging by the outdoor pool bar with my partner, June. Throughout the years, I have brought my three sons, Stephen, Garrett, and Zachary, to the club. Now, I have the pleasure of carrying on the tradition with the next generation by continuing to bring my sons, daughters-in-law Jessica and Maddie, and my new granddaughter, Penelope. June's family, including Jackie, Jon, Eric, Jeff, and grandson Bryce, also enjoy our family outings at the club.

With all the good news shared at the State of The Club Addressed on March 22nd, your LHPYC team, community, and members are all excited to keep moving forward! At the State of The Club Address, many of you had questions regarding reciprocity! I would be more than happy to walk you through navigating the Yacht Clubs of America’s Network. If you are interested in taking advantage of this benefit, you will want to call the club you would like to visit, ask to speak with the team member responsible for reciprocity, and inform them that your home club, "LHPYC," is a part of the YCAOL network. Additionally, inquire if they require a letter of introduction or proof of good standing. If so, please contact me, and I will provide you with the necessary documentation. If you need assistance! 23 of LHPYC Daniel J. O’Keefe • Fine Art 516-383-4000 • danieljokeefe.com The Art Gallery of Lighthouse Point Yacht Club is featuring Iranian- American Artist Sheida Soleimani for the May, 2024 issue of ‘The Point’ magazine. Based in Providence, Rhode Island, artist Sheida Soleimani, born in 1990, constructs elaborate and surreal tableaux in her studio. She then photographs these meticulously prepared sets, which incorporate mixed-media backdrops, props, and symbols. Models are central to each scene, but their faces are always hidden, providing an air of anonymity, if not universality, and shifting focus to their gestures. Soleimani interrogates the narratives disseminated by the press and social media in a practice that fuses sculptures, performance, and photography into her unique art-form. In her ongoing series “Levers of Power”, Soleimani recontextualizes images of public figures to reveal how seemingly simple gestures-a pointed finger, a clenched fist-inform perceptions of people both familiar and foreign. As an artist, Soleimani does not trust the news media for accurate information. Realizing we are taking in information in sound bites from our phones, computers, televisions, etc... She sees only fragments and figments of the truth remain. Who do we trust? Are they good or bad, especially when it comes to politics? She looks at the body language of politicians and activists. From there the power exists. From there comes her ongoing series “Levers of Power” about how we are socially conditioned to read gestures. At 34 years old, Sheida Soleimani plans to continue examining media and historical literacy while incorporating the body language into her art. Please get in touch with Daniel J. O’Keefe at 516-383-4000 or email me at [email protected] for questions about the artists.

26 FITNESS & YOUTH Fitness Jeremy Marten Fitness & Youth Director Hello everyone, and welcome to April! I'm delighted with all the activity happening around the Club each month. It’s been wonderful to see new and existing members joining our sports and fitness programs regularly. Witnessing new faces around the gym and tennis courts all year long has been a pleasure. As the weather changes, I sense the anticipation of warm summer days on the horizon. It feels like just yesterday when I was discussing getting your New Year’s body ready, and now I'm advocating for "let’s get that summer body ready!" For those who aren't aware, we have fantastic group fitness classes held every morning at the tennis center gym at 9 am. We boast a diverse array of instructors each week, and we can accommodate all ages and abilities, so please come check us out! Additionally, I have available hours for personal training if you're interested in one-on-one gym sessions, so feel free to reach out and inquire! Youth Katie Hull Youth Social Activities Manager Happy April everyone! As we enter the homestretch of the school year, I know many of you have already begun planning for your summer. In this planning process, don’t forget about the amazing Summer Activities Program, also known as SAP, here at LHPYC. This ten-week program will run from June 3rd to August 7th. Each day, your child will participate in enriching activities such as fishing, tennis, swimming, and STEM. For the past three years, I've had the privilege to spearhead our LHPYC SAP, and each year gets better than the last. Being a part of what makes summer fun for the youth here has been an incredible experience for me. Whether it's watching your child reel in a fish or make an amazing shot on the tennis court, the main goal is to have fun, be active, creative, and build lasting relationships. Here at LHPYC, we prioritize creating a fun and safe environment for all our youth, and it shows from the high level of participation we receive. This ten-week program is for youth ages 5-12 and will run from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm, with half-day options available as well. This summer, SAP is exclusively offered to LHPYC Members; no guests will be admitted. Due to the popularity of last summer's program, reservations are requested for the day or days your child plans to attend. We can only accommodate 20 kids each day, so walk-ins are not guaranteed. Lunch and snacks will be provided daily for children participating in the full-day or half-day options. Our flyer has been posted, and we are ready to start taking reservations. I can’t wait to see everyone this summer!

TENNIS March was a busy month on the tennis side! We hosted our monthly Ladies Tennis Luncheon on the 14th, with 20 attendees enjoying food, drinks, and camaraderie. Additionally, our quarterly Dinks & Drinks pickleball social was once again a hit (pun intended). We welcomed new faces and witnessed intense competition, leaving everyone eager for the next event scheduled for June. Wrapping up March, our annual Miami Open bus trip to the Hard Rock Stadium was a huge success, prompting us to consider organizing a trip to the US Open in NYC. Stay tuned for updates on that. As we move into April, the fun continues. Our monthly event will be the “Servivor” round-robin on Saturday the 13th, open to both ladies and men with handicap scoring to level the playing field. With 20+ entries in recent events, prizes for first and second place have made these tournaments highly competitive. Our other programs, including Tuesday Night Cardio Tennis, Tiki Tennis, Feeding Frenzy, and Start/Restart, have seen significant growth. Likewise, our junior clinics on Monday and Wednesday have expanded, filling the courts during prime-time. Don’t forget to inquire about our buy 5 get 1 free private lesson package. For those who want to stay informed about all tennis happenings, our LHPYC WhatsApp tennis chat is the place to be. To join, simply email [email protected], and we'll add you promptly. Lastly, if you have any questions or would like to schedule lessons or events, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here to ensure your LHPYC experience is exceptional. See you on the courts! 31 SWIM The pool remains a popular place this time of year! Our swim team is diligently practicing up to 6 days a week, and our lesson program is currently at full capacity. If you're interested in lessons, please reach out, and we can add you to the waitlist. We'll get you in the water as soon as space becomes available. We're fortunate to have two AWESOME lesson instructors, Coach Meghan and Maddie, who do a fantastic job. Thanks to everyone for keeping up the great work! The swim team continues to grow, and swimmers now have the opportunity to participate in local USA Swimming meets. Our next meet is scheduled for April 6th in Palm Beach. Good luck to all our swimmers! Swim for Another Team? That's Great! If you're part of another team but would like a private lesson or to drop in for one of our workouts, please let us know. The drop-in cost is $20 per session. We focus on one stroke in detail daily for 20-30 minutes, making it an excellent opportunity to refine your stroke skills in a small group setting. The average practice size is 5 participants. We're thrilled to see members taking advantage of lap swim, open swimming, and simply relaxing by the pool daily. Did you know that 66 laps of the pool equal one mile? It's a great way to start your day or unwind after work. Just come to the club anytime and do a few laps in our pool. Afterward, grab some sun and enjoy some delicious food. Congratulations to all the swimmers on the team, and we look forward to many more great days at the pool! Upcoming Events: Coaches Meet and Greet:April 24th from 4-4:30 PM. Free evaluations for lessons and swim teams will be available. Keith Kennedy Head Swim Coach
