FITNESS & YOUTH

Fitness

I want to dedicate this month’s newsletter space to introducing our members to
Lauren Phelps.

Lauren has been an instructor of group fitness classes at LHPYC since 2019.
Some of you know her if you are into fitness, and some of you will hopefully get
to know her soon as she has some fantastic services to offer our members. She is
a certified personal trainer that is willing to do in-person one-on-one sessions or
virtual sessions in the comfort of your home, boat, or our gym. I felt the need to
add an exceptional female trainer to the team at LHPYC.

Lauren cannot only help with the physical aspect of fitness, but she is also an
accountability coach and life coach. She has done hundreds of hours of intense
training through the countries most respected coaches and mentors.

If you have been searching for a reason to get motivated or hold yourself
accountable for a goal, Lauren might just be the person you are in search of, and
we are lucky to have her. Please feel free to reach out to her to discuss any
questions that you may have: [email protected]

Youth

Summer is quickly passing us by, and that brings an end to our Annual Kids Summer Activities Program, also known as SAP. So, the 13th of
August will be the final day for you kiddos to enjoy all that the Club has to offer during the summer. I am excited to announce that our
Summer Activities Program is hosting a back to school & end of summer blowout party! We want all of our youth in on the fun, but don’t be
jealous, mom and dad. We want to include you in the action too! Join the kiddos by the pool at 4 PM for Happy Hour and stay by the pool all
night long with live music and the waterslide. There will be a lifeguard on duty, a cornhole competition, and chef specials. Our SAP & Back to
School Celebration is a family fun event you don’t want to miss out on! Clear our calendars for August 13th, and let us celebrate a summer
well spent. RSVP by emailing [email protected] Refer to page 21 for more details

I am so thrilled and pleased to say that we have the best team of youth activity directors to date! Our Assistant Youth Director, Ms. Katie Hull,
was named the Employee of the Quarter, and I could not be more proud! Katie has been with me for the last three years, and she has consis-
tently demonstrated a willingness to improve and enhance the experience for the Youth of the Club. I was honored to present her last month
with the award, which is voted on by the senior staff at the Club.

One of the programs that Ms. Katie is putting in place for our teenagers is a formal CIT Jeremy Martens
and service hour program. This summer, we began this initiative as some of our teens Fitness & Youth Director
requested service hours by helping out with youth activities. We will be releasing full
details of this program very soon. This way, our teens can get involved and earn those
essential service hours for their schooling.

If you have any questions regarding the youth activities, please feel free to call or email me.

Employee of the Katie Hull

Second Quarter

We are introducing our Employee of the Second Quarter: Katie Hull.

No matter the task, Katie rises to the challenges and raises the bar for the youth at LHPYC. Her positive energy
and dependability have indeed kept our nightly Little Skippers activity program and Monthly Kids Day’s
creative and fun for our members.

Katie has worked under Jeremy Martens, our Youth Director, for the last three years. During her tenure as the
Assistant Director for our Summer Activities Program, she has continually demonstrated an ability to succeed.
She has implemented and trained her staff with scheduling, daily kid’s activities, and meal planning with the
chef but most recently created a CIT program for our teenage members. We are fortunate to have her.

If you see Katie on the property, please congratulate her for the excellent job she has been doing at LHPYC.

Here is a small snippet of the remarkable work Broward Children's
Center does for our county. Since 1971, Broward Children's Center,
located in Pompano Beach, Florida, has been providing medical,
educational, therapeutic, recreational, daily living, and advocacy services
through a network of care to infants, children, and young adults with
special health care needs. As a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization,
they have never underestimated the ability of young people to overcome
challenges, heal, learn, and most of all, flourish.
The mission at BCC is to respond to the unique needs of every child
through programs that promote privacy, respect, independence, dignity,

Member I, Robert (aka “RJ”), am a native Floridian born and raised right here in Lighthouse
Point...My wife Lisa was born in Texas but moved here when she was young. I went
Spotlight to grade school at St. Ambrose, and she went to Zion Lutheran. We met in high
school at Pope John Paul in Boca Raton. We are high school sweethearts and have
Robert & Lisa Boyle been married for 29 years with two beautiful and talented girls Elli and Caroline.

Elli was a standout basketball player through school, and she is a great writer of
poetry and songs. She is presently in nursing school in Nashville, Tn.

Caroline is building and running the subscription platform for RJ Boyle Studio and
the wholesale and distributor program. She recently graduated from Texas A&M
with a business degree and a championship ring in equestrian.

Lisa is in finance and is extremely active in animal rescue and CASA Works. We
have a small farm in Tennessee, so we split time between the two homes. We only
have a few animals: eight dogs, nine horses, six sheep, five pigs, and six cats. Not too
many!

As for me, I own a store here in Lighthouse Point called RJ Boyle Studio that houses
my artwork and sells big game fishing tackle and clothing. If you look around the
club, you will see my art hanging in several places. Almost all of my art is marine
based. As for the art side, I have my mom to thank, as she was the one who inspired
me to draw and paint at a young age.

We also run non-profit kids with special needs program called "Mission Fishin." One
Saturday a month, we take families fishing, hoping to provide a break from the
realities of life and spend time on the water. The volunteer network has been
excellent, and our local community has stepped up to be part of this organization
that we started ten years ago. The club is the home base for this program, so if you
would like to give your time and or vessel, we would love to have you. Check out
missionfishin.org for more info

On the fishing side, we have two charter boats that take customers fishing locally
and throughout the Bahamas. In addition, we write a weekly fishing report in the
local Pelican News, and we provide the fishing report for the 105.9fm Paul
Castronovo show.

Our full-time Captain Mark Danley and crew run the charter operation right here at
the club. We are located on the west dock, and the vessel is called "LISA B" .....after
my wife, Lisa Boyle. We specialize in catching wahoo, swordfish, tuna, and sailfish.

Whether we are in Tennessee or Lighthouse Point, we love to spend time on the
water. We take cruises locally on our boat all the time, and we always seem to end
up at the club pool bar in the afternoons on the weekend. Imagine that! We love the
club! Lisa loves the margaritas, and I have the skinny pirate!

Ed and Barbara Boyle (my parents) were members #67 at the club. So we grew up
here swimming, playing tennis, and hanging out at the spa. Few people know that I
worked here at the club for three years in the summer months. I worked as a busboy
for Julio for those of you that remember him. I loved it!

My sister Barbara and other friends of ours have had their wedding receptions here.

One specific memory that I have of the club was at Easter time. Watching my girls
search for easter eggs in the back area near the water every year was priceless. The
kids would run around crazy! Even though our girls are in their mid 20's, we still
have an easter egg hunt which brings back club memories. The only difference now
is the eggs are filled with $5 and $10 bills instead of candy.

The club is special to our family and will always be a part of our life. We feel like we
can escape reality when we come to the club. It's our compound...It's our home away
from home.

WHISPERING ANGEL ROSÉ
CHÂTEAU D’ESCLANS

Whispering Angel rosé is made by Château d’Esclans. In my opinion, Provence has always made the best Rose wines,
and I had to have it on our wine list. It is made from a blend of Grenache, Rolle, Cinsault, Syrah, and Mourvèdre.

The wine is pale pink, driven by alluring aromas of white peach, strawberry, fresh cherry, passionfruit, and tangerine
peel. The wine is dry, and the palate is silky smooth, driven by graceful red fruits, orange citrus, and a hint of honey.

This month the Art Gallery of Lighthouse Point Yacht Club is
featuring a three-year retrospective of Jill Sneidman’s fine art
photography. Sniedman’s landscapes and nature scenes
have graced the LHPYC Art Gallery for the past three and a
half years. Her fine art photography was featured in the 2019
and 2020 issues of ‘The Point’. Although this retrospective
isn’t an exhibition that shows off the entire oeuvre of Jill’s
career, it is my objective to present to the LHPYC members,
their guests, and the club’s staff the wonderful nature that
Jill captures in her travels.

of LHPYC Nature is all around us and a great way to capture it is
through the eyes of a nature and landscape photographer.
Jill first discovered her passion for photography in 1977

Daniel J. O’Keefe • Fine Art while living in San Francisco by photographing at the
516-383-4000 • danieljokeefe.com Conservatory of Flowers. Jill has been capturing the life of

nature for over 40 years now, with the intention of bringing it
closer to everyone. That is not to say that there aren’t many

other art forms used in capturing the beauty of the world in

which we live. But the reality of looking at a nature

photograph is as real as it gets for those of us who are not there at that moment. Jill has photographed nature in: Florida, Colorado,

California, the Caribbean, Scotland, New England, Arizona, Utah, and Iceland with more places waiting to visit on her bucket list.

From Jill herself: “There is so much to love about landscape photography-the grandeur, the epic light, the massive scale of it all. It gets
me out in nature, to see new places, and to see old places in new ways. Shooting landscapes forces me to get outside and witness beauty.
It often means discovering places right in front of my eyes that I just never noticed were beautiful before. Other times this means
exploring new places and taking a hike or nature walk, which is one of my favorite ways to shoot my photographs. Not only does
landscape photography push me to explore new places, it gives me a push to get out during those times of the day that when we are
often holed up inside, such as a sunrise or sunset. Because it can be more challenging to get out at these times, we often don't in our
daily lives. These are the times when the most interesting light can be found. Landscape photography pushes me to set an alarm in the
morning rather than sleep in. I have seen more sunrises and sunsets thanks to shooting landscapes than I ever have before. Often a little
physical discomfort is involved, whether pushing through sleepiness or shivering in the cold, but it is almost always worth the effort.
It’s worth the adrenaline high when I view the LCD screen and see what I captured, what I saw.” To paraphrase, Jill says it’s all truly
indescribable.

According to Sneidman, “Professional nature photography is a gift; it allows us to bring into a living space an endless moment of peace,
light, harmony, beauty, perfection, insight and wisdom. Nature photography is all about the perfect instant, to be there and recognize it
as the special moment that can be set in an image. It is to know when a photograph will be worth more than a thousand words because
it is portraying life and thus, it comes alive. My camera is my best friend! I use a Canon T5 with 3 different lenses (mid range zoom,
longer zoom and a wide angle). I have used all 3 at different times depending on the position of the scene I am shooting and the distance
I want to obtain”.

Jill has received many prestigious accolades and merits garnered over the years. She has placed her work in such esteemed places as
New York City, Maryland, Florida, and Illinois. She has sold many of her fine art photographic pieces to valued collectors, in art shows
and institutions over the years. When I think of Jill taking a photograph, many times after camping in the cold on location, waiting hours
to catch that perfect light and moment, that image she will own for all time, I think of what Alex Webb said: “part of what excites me
about photography is its very uncertainty, the fact that it is not just the photographer, but the vagaries of the world that result in the
photograph”. John Baldessari reminds us, ”Instead of looking at things, look between things.” Jill Sneidman’s photography certainly
captures the moment in time.

The Art Gallery at Lighthouse Point is currently featuring a number of Gallery artists. All the art is for sale.
For information about the art please contact Daniel J. O’Keefe at 516-383-4000 or Diane at the front desk.

Norcilien Marc

I am Norcilien Marc but better known as Captain Marc, here at
the Club. I am originally from Port-au-Prince, Hati, and move
to the US in 1978. I started working for our Club in 1997. I have
been a part of the team for 24 years and still love coming here
day after day.

I am married to Merite, who I have been with for 42 years. The
secret to my marriage is we are still in love as much as we were
when we said I do. I have a profound trust in her, and she is
the mother to my two children. My oldest is Ken, who use to
be the Tiki Bar chef for two years here at the Club. He gave me
three grandbabies. The oldest being my granddaughter, who is
twenty, and she just recently graduated from college: my
nine-year-old grandson and my youngest granddaughter, who
is six. I also have a daughter, Merlene, who is thirty-nine. She
gave me two beautiful granddaughters, who are seventeen
and nine. Wish me luck!

When I am not here at the Club, my favorite pastime is
shopping for clothes and mall walking. I think style and
dressing to impress are fundamental for success. I also am a
little OCD as my second favorite pastime is to clean my house.
As they say, cleanliness is next to godliness.

As a person, my work and family are the two aspects of life I
hold the closest to me. I am honored to say that working here
at the Club is like working for family. I am looking forward to
the future of the Club and all the renovations we are expected
to have. I wish the Club my best for success and continuing to
make our members and myself have a community in which
we can thrive.
