A MESSAGE FROM THE OWNER (Continued from Page 3)

If you missed out on the Club wide trip to Ocean Reef
hosted by the Cruising Group, Commodore Hanssen and
his Bride Heather, it’s your loss. While this magazine is
getting published, we are all enjoying the trip with almost
100 members on 18 boats and 10 hotel rooms booked. Many
non-boater members travel on-board the Cruising groups
boats. Thank You to all who came and who hosted on your
vessels. Book now for the club trip to Hawks Cay. It looks as
though well over 100 members will be on that trip. Thank
you, Commodore, for all your effort putting these trips
together.

Halloween is coming quickly. We have had to cancel our
Golf Cart Parade to all the member homes for obvious
reasons. So instead, the Social Committee will treat all the
kids for our Trunk or Treat in our parking lot, spread out
safely. All treats will be distributed in a Club and Social
Committee vetted way. Please bring your kids and friends
(member guests encouraged) and roam our property from
front to back to get your treats from 4pm to 6pm. Sign up in
the lobby if you want to decorate the trunk of your car,
truck or your golf cart.

The Halloween Masquerade will start at 7pm on the same
night. The Kids Party is separate from the adults. Please
book soon because we must prepare correctly and as I
explained above, everything is tougher to prepare now
since we need to stay safe. This is also why it is a
Masquerade. Prizes will be given for the Best Masks. With
all that is going on, surely you all can come up with unique,
stunning, funny or gory mask ideas.

Lastly, don’t forget we have Little Skippers currently open
Wednesdays and Fridays. Starting Oct. 21st it moves to
Wednesdays and Saturdays. We build our Club for the
future. Your kids and grandkids are our future. Let us get
them addicted to the Club so they can push you to bring
them here more often.

Looking forward to seeing you all at many events off-site
and at the club.

CORNER

I would like to thank everyone for your kind words about food and service over the last month. We work
hard on trying to get things just right. There is a staff-wide effort putting the themed menus together.
Menu development, available ingredients, and ease of service all come into play before the menu goes to
print. Sometimes items that I wanted on the menu just don't make the cut because of product availability.
We are very excited about a new section being added to the main menu. We are working on Bowls and
Rolls recipes and plate presentations. Items like Crispy Chickpea, Sweet Potato, and Kale, Fall Vegetable
and Lentil, Eggplant with Mint & Cilantro Chutney plus a variety of Sushi Rolls and Poke Bowls and
many more.

Thank you for your support. Ed McCabe

9/12/2020 would have been our first flight of the Fall 2020 season.
We were sad to not be spending the day of honor and tribute with

attain a Green Environment.

Adams spins his paint from a punctured can on constructed tripods above found tarps and other reclaimed materials including beach wood
that drifted in from the ocean along Smith Point Park and Fire Island. Like the path of a plum-bob set in motion or a Foucault pendulum,
the paint automatically forms progressively layered ellipses on the horizontal tarps. The process involves many different types of throws as
well as a sense of geometry not unlike the precision and accuracy required to master billiards. Adams has used multiple cans of paint
simultaneously spinning and oscillating in order to create monumental, complex works of art. The angle, direction, velocity, and force with
which he throws each can, must be planned carefully in order to create each unique design. Just like in billiards, there is a science to his
technique and process, elevating it to a complex art. Unknown to Adams, the surrealist Max Ernst used the “oscillation” technique in his
The Bewildered Planet of 1942, but because of their scale Adams’ expansive paintings have the cosmic beauty and freedom of a Jackson
Pollock drip painting.

Observing David Adams’s unique art leaves the audience wondering how the artist attains such perfect connected curved symmetrically
displaced lines over a multitude of surfaces on his found and repurposed materials. Realizing each work of David’s art might easily be
destroyed should he not pay the utmost attention to his process doesn’t stop Adams from having a conversation with his audience while
working in his studio. He often likes to have an audience while he works. During the summer months David Adams takes up residence at
Smith Point Park where he can be found making art on found beach wood on the weekends.

To my mind John Constable clearly defines how David Adams sees his art by writing, “I never saw an ugly thing in my life: for let the form
of an object be what it may-light, shade, and perspective will always make it beautiful.”

The Art Gallery at Light House Point is currently featuring a number of Gallery artists. All the art is for sale.
For information about the art please contact Daniel J. O’Keefe at 516-383-4000 or Diane at the front desk.

crossing the border into Florida and I just knew I was home. I told my

brother then, “I’m going to be moving to Florida within a year.” One

month after my trip, a friend called me out of the blue and asked if I

wanted to move in with him in his Pompano Beach apartment. A

week later I packed up and moved down which was the best decision

I had ever made.

I have been married to my wife Cristina now for 11 years and we live
in Delray Beach with our Yorkie “Chewy”. I will never forget our first
date. We were driving on 95 heading to a restaurant in Fort
Lauderdale. I was following her in my car when I noticed her pulling
over. She had a flat tire and after I changed her tire, we continued our
drive until I ran out of gas. I just had to laugh and jump in her car to
get a tank to fill up my car. I think it was about a 3 hour trip to get to
the restaurant but it was worth it because it was the beginning of our
life together.

COMMODORE’S CORNER

Over 15 ports visited so far this year and more to go! This month we feature the yacht
of Tom and Mary Francis Heller, aka Tuna Tom and Hopetown Girl Heller. These folks
are visiting numerous ports and are doing what most of us would like to be doing. They

are avid cruisers and we are hoping to hear their stories upon their safe return.

YACHT
of the

Featured Boat: Island Moon owned by Tuna Tom &
Hopetown Girl, Mary Frances Heller
In 2019 we purchased Island Moon, a 53’ Riviera Enclosed
Flybridge, built in Coomera, Australia in 2013. Founded in
1980, Riviera is Australia’s premium luxury motor yacht
builder.
We had purchased a new 40’ Riviera, Sportfish in 2006 and
enjoyed rendezvous throughout the Bahamas and Keys for 6
wonderful, exciting years with our family and friends
aboard. We frequently extended our trips going to
Hopetown, Elbow Cay in the Abacos.
Inspired by the Abaco full moons, we named our second
Riviera “Island Moon”. Island Moon is a good fit for us
because it fishes and cruises, is beautiful and structurally
strong. It has luxury and more space than we thought
possible in a 53’ foot boat. It has three staterooms, including a
full beam master, two bathroom accommodation, a very
functional aft galley and a well-equipped enclosed flybridge.
An additional selling feature for us was the IPS drive.
Joystick maneuverability makes boating very easy for us.
Having sold our 22 year home in Parkland, Florida in June
2020, we moved onto the boat full time and left for our
LHPYC Cruise Group Exumas trip July 3, 2020. We
continued up the US East Coast shortly thereafter. Truly
blessed, I’m sitting in the cockpit, off the Chesapeake Bay in
St. Michaels, Maryland as I write this.
We very much look forward to continuing our wonderful
rendezvous experiences with the the LHPYC Cruise Group.
See everyone in November.
