3rd June 2017

ABOVE: The PSUL section; reaching the end of line was a very uplifting experience for our members.

X.78] Vinter's Railway Gazetteer: *REMINDER* Compiled by Jeff Vinter (from Railway Ramblers)
over nearly ten years, the new second edition is correct to 31 Oct 2016. It is about four times bigger,
with four times the number of pictures than before and more are in colour. There are many new
routes, far more content and extra articles: ●A brief history of railway closures. ●How old railways
became walkways and cyclepaths. ●Reinstatement (bridges and reopening tunnels). ●Funding
issues. It is paperback, 226mm x 248mm ('Coffee Table' format); 168 pages covering all known
disused trackbeds accessible to the public to walk or cycle over two miles long and shorter sections
of particular interest. he guide is divided up into 'country' (including all of Ireland), subdivided by
county. Lundy, Steep Holm and other 'offshore islands' are even included (in the England section).
Almost all routes have two six figure Ordnance Survey references. There is a thumbnail description
with the length and suitability for walking, horse riding and/or cycling. This supplements our
member Rhys Ab Elis's definitive 'Railway Rights of Way' Society publication; other BLS members are
mentioned as is the Society itself. Thanks to Jeff's generosity, our members can benefit from the
same offer as Railway Ramblers (please consider joining them in return and notify any additions/
alterations!). Normally £19.99 plus P&P; UNTIL 30 June for BLS members it is only £15 post free
(UK addresses only). Quote: 'KT8'email: [email protected] or 01256 302699. Everyone
should have one and will find it useful and interesting; you could even start ticking the routes off…!
