would now like to cancel it, please notify our Sales Officer, Mark Gomm, as below by 20 August.
BELOW: (BLN 1253.625) At the July 2016 annual 'Welland Steam Rally', the standard gauge brake van
rides (a fifth of a mile) were provided by Dubs' 0-4-0 crane tank No4101 from the Foxfield Railway.
NEXT PAGE TOP: On the narrow gauge was 2' gauge HOWARD (formerly PADDY) No6 from Statfold Barn.
BELOW: The standard gauge steam crane at Welland was giving lifting demonstrations. There was a
very successful Society visit to these three lines and a further temporary un-ballasted metre gauge
track on 25 Jul 2014 (the large group had only expected the Toad brake van trip over the full length of
the other standard gauge line!). The next Welland Steam Rally is 28 to 31 Jul 2017. (Pictures David Guy
BLN 1262.X.113, ABOVE E-BLN 1262, Guess the Location: Answer in e-BLN 1263 (if the Editor can
remember where the correct file is filed) no other clues this time. (Ian Mortimer).
X.XXX] …and Finally, 'it was a
long time ago': (e-BLN
12361.X108) At least that is
the Editor's excuse, despite the
fact that he organised both of
the trips he managed to mix
Brunthill up with Chilwell (only
the photographer spotted this,
not surprisingly, as they were
both very similar locations).
Therefore, the picture was
actually taken at MoD Central
Ordnance Depot, Chilwell
(Nottingham) on 7 Apr 1981!
The base was about to close;
21 participated and the charge, for the comprehensive tour was £1 per head. The day had started at
09.00 with footplate rides over the Spondon Power Station branch (overhead trolley wire powered)
before moving to Chilwell at 13.00. This was followed by a tour of MoD Ruddington Ordnance Supply
& Disposal Depot railway system (quite extensive). Surplus equipment was auctioned off at the site, a
small part of which is now Nottingham Transport Museum - Great Central Railway (Nottingham). The
fourth visit on 7 April 1981 was a comprehensive railtour of the former Nottingham Sugar Factory
railway at Colwick Industrial Estate. (Photo Ian Mortimer)
