4 Cornerstones of an Effective Laundry Room Design

Published by  HPG Consulting at  September 10, 2019

Doing laundry can be a tedious and tiring task, especially in the absence of the
right appliances and tools. An effective laundry room design should make the
room more organized and ease the tasks involved in laundry management. Many
laundry management plans leave out important factors such as waterproo ng

the ooring, interruptions in water supply, needed storage spaces, and proper
ventilation. Overlooking such factors decreases the overall ef ciency of the
laundry room and the business pays for it in the long run. To help ensure that you
never nd yourself in such a position, in this blog post, we present the four
cornerstones of effective laundry room design. Read on.

1. Tailored Cabinetry

Be it storing laundry supplies, such as detergents, stain removers, iron and oor
cleaner, or keeping dirty clothes, the need for storage space is always there.
Using custom cabinets optimizes the storage spaces in a laundry room. Wall
mounted cabinets or standing cabinets are used to store equipment and clothes,
giving your room a clean and sharp look. Before washing, clothes need to be
sorted into different bins, depending upon their ber material and color shade.
For this purpose, sorting bins or shelves could be used, leaving counter space
clean and empty for other procedures.

2. Organized Appliances

Simply stacking appliances such as washers and dryers will not help you make
room functional. Appliances are positioned in the room according to their usage,
ease of access, and necessary supplies. Some washers are placed under the
storage spaces, so cabinet spaces are custom made depending upon the
dimensions of the washer. Different types of washers such as top and front load
washers, are available on the market these days. You can choose from various
options according to your needs and budget.

3. Optimal Work Space

Work space and oor space plays an important role in improving ef ciency of the
laundry room. During washing, different detergent and solvents are required, and
accessing cabinets each time will be tiring and time consuming. To ease up this,
counter spaces should be included in laundry room design as much as possible,
so that you can place the supplies on top of that and use that for space ironing
clothes too. For improving oor space, appliances should be placed in such a way
that opened washer door or storage bins do not hinder your movement in the
area.

4. Power Outlets and Fixtures

Washing, bleaching, drying or ironing, almost every operation in the laundry
room is powered by electricity. To make appliances operational, multiple power
sources are required. There may be a situation where you need to place the iron
board at a different position in the room, at that time you’ll require the nearest
power outlet to iron clothes. Fixtures like hot and cold water mixer, corner sink,
drying hangers and wall mounted baskets, improves functionality as well as
provides aesthetic look to the space.
