guest services.

Every industry in today’s time needs technological advancement and assimilation to survive and progress.
Efficient use of energy, resources, and time is crucial for the smooth operation of an organisation. But along
with that, proper planning and management are just as important. The hotel industry uses various kinds of
facilities in their functions and related planning is also required like kitchen planning, waste management,
laundry planning, food service planning, and other technical aspects of hotel management. All these
processes require specific technology for their operations to provide choice guest service. Here we are having
a look at how to use technology in guest services.
The Role of Technology in Hotel Facility Management
Technology has become one of the most important tools for building hotel facilities for a better experience for
guests. Guest services in the hotels require special attention for management and day to day operations,
which also requires the proper functioning of the IT network of the hotel.
To have a complete understanding of the technology that is being used in hotel facility management, we must
go a few steps further. The technology works on two main aspects i.e. order management and time
management. These are the most popular technologies in the hotel industry which includes software,
systems, and services that allow the hotel facility managers to have full control over their business.
Room-service, bar-service, the self-service machines are operated through a flexible network. Today, hotels
face tremendous challenges when it comes to energy efficiency. However, these challenges have been faced
by hotels for a long time. Refrigerators are essential equipment and any measure that can cut down on the
electricity required to run a room temperature appliance, improves its use and effectiveness.
Guest services are a significant part of the hospitality industry. It is required that the hotels in order to
enhance their guest service strategy, are well-prepared with the needed technological infrastructure. The
hotel industry requires services that would help in the implementation of technology in the management and
running of the facility.

Enabling technology for guest services
Device management software simplifies the guest’s experience by offering hotel staff an opportunity to
access a myriad of information for cleaning, housekeeping, housekeeping machine and other processes.
Intelligent tools help hotel staff to manage energy and the environment at the hotel. This will help to reduce
the wastage of resources, make management effective and will have an indirect effect on the overall well-
being of the environment.
Vast and multifunctional areas of hotel facilities need lighting management and control to reduce operational
costs and increase profits. There is an investment in equipment and the efficient operation of these types of
equipment is dependent on the space available, the number of rooms in a hotel, and the time of the guest
arrival. The lighting control system can be of two types, there is on-site control where it is installed in the
rooms, and there is a remote system for which wiring and the controller are installed in an area not covered
by the rooms. The on-site control system must be easy to operate as the control panel and the alarm panel
are in each room. Many hotels are considering using information and communication technology (ICT) in hotel
facilities such as guest services as it is an essential part of hotel operations and features such as cameras in
key-fobs, mails sent to guests and making them aware of their arrival, cleaning and housekeeping staffs
using computers to handle and answer guest queries etc. The hotel industry has various ICTs like
smartphones, laptops, desktops, laptops, tablets, IPs, sensors, alarm systems, voice response systems, etc.
Facilities management companies now use various methods for improving the management and quality of
customer service. Hotel facilities management companies use devices such as webcams, web conferencing,
infrared inbuilt cameras, and infrared (IR) spectrometers to enhance the skills of restaurant workers. The
device cameras which provides IR information are used for security purpose. Another common usage of this
device is for quality assurance or enhancement of a few employees. It enhances the appearance of
employees by using facial recognition. This device also measures the potential of a worker who may have a
case of dishonesty. The device also gives scores for various metrics which help hotel management to assess
their skills and their efficiency.
As technology advancements every day, it is possible to take hotel facility management services to a whole
new level. The best thing about the technology of today is that it is so much easier and quicker for both, the
hotels and their customers. To understand more about how we can use the technology in hotel facility
management, we have to look at how it can improve customer service. Efficient food ordering and planning
food services are the main part of the hotel service industry. With the evolution of technology, more than 60%
of food services will be supported by technology in the near future. With the advent of online ordering,
brands are looking for efficient and reliable ways to manage a restaurant business.
As established, any industry needs technological advancement to survive and keep growing and the
hospitality industry is no different. New technology keeps developing which makes facility management
easier and guest experience better.
