January 2020
Australian Market Update

Welcome to the latest market perspective and sourcing update from your Foodbuy
team. We hope you had a fantastic Christmas and New Year!
In this issue, we focus on updating our Foodbuy members on what’s happening in our
fruit and vegetable supply chain for the month of JANUARY 2020 across Australia.
As your procurement partner, we are pleased to provide these monthly insights and in
supporting you in delighting your customers, whilst delivering the best food at the best
cost.
Tomatoes are providing good value for this time of year.
COS lettuce is a best buy as we see good volumes from local farms.
Zucchini is a best buy out of Victoria and Queensland, along with Eggplant out of South
Australia.
Pineapples – usually dry conditions in North Queensland see very small volumes arriving
in the market and struggling to keep up with demand.
Stone Fruit – good volumes of peaches, apricots, plums and nectarines. Cherries
continue to improve in quality, however volumes are limited.
Mangoes – best buy is the R2E2 mango, which is eating fantastic.
Inconsistent supplies on spring onions, baby leeks and baby turnips.
Please be mindful, given the bushfires at the moment, there may be volatility in the fruit
and vegetable supply chain.

here.
Commodity Meter
A general overview of the top products
purchased for that state, detailing quality and
pricing flags for this month.

Relevant contacts for your Foodbuy Support
Services team, as well as each Preferred Supplier
