Years Blairhame’s Second Century

& TPS Strategic Vision

As our iconic campus, Blairhame, celebrates its 100th year (1915-2015), Tuxedo Park School works to preserve,
enrich and evolve the traditions, programs and setting that make this school unique. Our academic, cultural and
athletic facilities and technology must support and maximize growth and learning for our students and faculty.

In 2014, the Board of Trustees of Tuxedo Park School adopted a
series of strategic priorities to guide the school’s future success:

• Build upon our tradition of and commitment to academic excellence while embracing the components
of a 21st Century education, including STEAM initiatives and differentiated instruction guided by the
latest brain research.
• Recruit, reward and retain the best faculty and staff, and provide unparalleled professional development

opportunities.
• Preserve, enrich and evolve the campus as Blairhame enters its second century.
• Achieve long-term financial health and grow our endowment.

While we celebrate this Centennial year, we also look ahead to Blairhame’s second century. Our facilities are being
enhanced to support ongoing learning in a 21st Century environment, and we continue to foster strong interpersonal
relationships and encourage innovation from our students and faculty.

By integrating the content and skills of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics with humanities,
TPS aspires to foster innovation and promote real-world problem solving. Thanks to the generosity of the Lachman
family, and in recognition of Kathleen McNamara’s work at TPS, our campus is the home to the new KMAC Lab
Maker Space where students will incorporate computers, tablets, 3D-printers, design, editing and recording studios
and other high-tech and high-touch technology into their day-to-day learning.

TPS prepares students for the rigors of secondary school and college academics, and beyond; the critical thinking
skills they develop now through multimedia tools and methodologies will carry with them throughout their lives.

As we implement the strategic initiatives and strengthen our school,
we give thanks to those who have helped us to lead the way.

Letter from the former Head of School

Dear Friends,

What a year 2014-15 was for all of us at TPS! As my fourth and final year at
TPS closes, I want to take a moment to reflect on my time with you. While the
transition to my next chapter in California is bittersweet, I will watch TPS continue
its upward direction.

My four years at Tuxedo Park School were filled with friendships and relationships
that I will cherish. Our students continue to inspire me, and the administration,
faculty, and staff are among the very best I have seen in my 26 years in schools.
Together, we have raised the level of our excellent academic programs and raised the
profile of the school all while continuing to develop, articulate, and refine what we do.

As Blairhame enters its second century, the board-adopted strategic initiatives are
being implemented and hold great promise for the years ahead. TPS will expand and
enhance the curriculum, provide incomparable professional development opportunities, and preserve, enrich and
evolve its facilities, while continuing to plan and set a course for financial strength. Mr. Stansbery is inheriting an
already strong program that holds great promise for the years ahead.

Looking back at 2014-15, we had a very successful year. Thanks to outstanding volunteers, our Annual Fund reached
an unprecedented 99% Family participation, 100% Board participation, and 100% Faculty participation and Gatsby
at Blairhame was the most successful Benefit-Auction in TPS history. The Parents’ Association went above and
beyond this year and continued to impress us with their dedication and commitment to TPS, and our outstanding
Middle and Upper School students performed HONK! on the TPS stage. We celebrated the numerous regional and
national accolades received by so many of our students at our Class Day and Graduation Awards Ceremonies in June.

We graciously thank and recognize our donors; your generosity has helped us to provide an exceptional experience
for students and faculty, and makes TPS such a special place. Philanthropy has funded everything from programming,
to building maintenance and technology, to electricity, the ski program, and curricular innovations. In particular, the
Monderer Initiative for Professional Development, allowed us to offer our faculty unprecedented Professional
Development. And with the help of the Lachman family, we reinforced our commitment to differentiated education
with Dr. McCloskey’s 2-day visit to campus. We are all truly grateful for these opportunities to learn and do more to
maximize growth and learning for our students.

As the 2015-16 school year opens and Blairhame enters its second century under the capable leadership of Todd
Stansbery, the halls will be filled with joyful children, a purposeful and committed faculty and staff, and the energy
of so many great parent volunteers. TPS is a small school that has made a big difference for generations.

Though my time as Head of School has come to a close, I have begun a new relationship with TPS as an “alumni
parent.” I look forward to news and excitement for years to come with a continued sense of pride for TPS. For the
first time publicly, I loudly cheer – Go Gold!

Fondly,

Kathleen McNamara, P ‘15

Message from the President
of the Board of Trustees

TPS’ historic campus, Blairhame, celebrates 100 years this year (1915-2015)! As we
prepare and look ahead to Blairhame’s second century, we reflect on the 2014-15 school
year as historic in its own right.

Extraordinary student success was celebrated within our school community, as well as
regionally and nationally by organizations like NAIS and other prestigious educational
institutions. We saw unprecedented support for the school and its mission – through
generous participation in our annual fund campaign (99% family participation!), the
Blairhame Restoration fund, and a highly-successful Annual Benefit Auction. These,
among numerous other achievements, reaffirm the strength of our program and the
dedication of our community.

Along with amazing success, we also experienced some disappointment. Kathleen
McNamara stepped down after serving four years as Head of School. During her tenure,
Kathleen accomplished many great things for our school including the development of a
strategic vision to guide TPS in the near future. This “roadmap” provides for curricular growth, professional development,
building enhancements, and new ways of approaching the education of our students.

The Trustees and I appreciate Kathleen’s leadership; her passion for excellence and vision for an academic and character
development program delivered the very best experience for all TPS students, and pushed the board, faculty and students
to new heights. She left TPS stronger than when she found it and we are most grateful.

While sad to bid Kathleen farewell, we are excited to welcome our new Head of School, Todd Stansbery. Todd joins
us from the Swain School where he was Head of School for nine years. He brings a wealth of experience in curricular
innovation, faculty development, philanthropy and strong strategic and financial acumen. We are also fortunate
to have Todd’s family join our community: his daughter, Peggy, an 8th grader at TPS, his son, Peter, a freshman at
Skidmore College, and his wife, Nancy, Senior Advancement Officer for the NY metropolitan region for Dickinson
College. Todd came to us through a robust search process led by Trustees Suzanne Donaghy and Frank Peverly, and
a dedicated committee of faculty, administration, and board members. I appreciate the effort of everyone who
partook in the search process; you have played an important role in framing the future success of TPS.

In closing, I extend a special thanks to the Board of Trustees for their dedication and effort on behalf of TPS. I also share
my gratitude for the support and commitment from every member of our school and extended community. We have
much to look forward to in the years ahead as we work together to preserve, enrich and evolve Tuxedo Park School.

ANNUAL FUND

& SPECIAL GIFTS

2014-15 was an outstanding year for TPS! Thank you to everyone for your
generosity. With unprecedented 99% participation among the current
families, and 100% of board and faculty giving to the Annual Fund, we
set a new bar for giving. A special thanks to our co-chairs, Linda and
Saurabh Agarwal, and Amra Sabic-El-Rayess, PhD and Tamer El-Rayess,
as well as our Faculty partners, Kate Vignola and Chuck Fontana, and
Alumni Council Chairs, Liz Gunnison ‘98 and Andrea Holiat ‘98 for their
strong leadership and commitment to Tuxedo Park School.

Giving to the Annual Fund has a tremendous impact on every student at
our school. The Annual Fund provides essential operating support for the
school; from heat and snow plowing, to school events, technology and the arts – TPS couldn’t do it without you!

TPS has greatly impacted families for generations. As parents of current TPS students and alumni, we feel
fortunate that our children have the privilege to attend TPS, where they have developed a passion for learning,
competency in academic disciplines, appreciation for the arts, and respect for the unique gifts of every person
they encounter.

We believe we speak for each of the students at TPS when we say ‘thank you’ for your ongoing support. We hope
we can count on you in 2015-16!

Thank you,

Beth Stradar and Carlos Santiago

Spotlight on Nina Allbert

Sometimes a person makes an impact on a community
because he or she has been a member of the community
for a long period of time. Sometimes, she makes an
impact because she raised the level of play, brought the
program to a new level, and became a game changer.
Mrs. Allbert has been at TPS for just five years, but as
she retires from education, she leaves the TPS music
program better than she found it. During her tenure
as the Music Department Coordinator at TPS, our
students have won choral competitions, represented
TPS at national music festivals and, this year, sung with

the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Though she was only with TPS for five years, her impact
has been transformational. Thanks, Mrs. Allbert, for
building a music program that will live on, at a very
high caliber, for years to come.

In recognition of Nina Allbert’s influence on the music program at TPS, and in celebration of her
retirement from education, Head of School, Kathleen McNamara named the choral award in her
honor. Now and Forever, each year on class day, deserving students will be recognized with the
Nina Allbert Choral Music Award.

Spring
Musical

TPS students made magic in their
production of George Stiles’ and
Andrew Drew’s Honk! Jr. Whether
rehearsing with friends, playing a
duck, a cat or a turkey onstage,
or managing backstage, students
immersed themselves in their roles,
reminding us that doing your best
and caring for each other is what life is
all about! Our thanks to parent and faculty volunteers for turning a gymnasium into a
barnyard set and to our students for their love of performance!

Benefit

This year’s Benefit-Auction, Gatsby at Blairhame,
was a tremendous success!
We celebrated Blairhame’s centennial year,
and hosted the event on campus. It offered
us an opportunity to socialize, have fun, and
come together as a community to make a real
difference in our children’s experience.
TPS is more than just a school … and Blairhame
is more than just a building. This is a place where
all of our children are cherished for who they
are; it’s a place where faculty inspire, nurture
and celebrate each child while preparing
them for a changing world. As parents, alumni
and friends, we, too, have special parts to play.
Thank you for choosing and supporting TPS.
Grossing over $435,000 for TPS, the night
was a tremendous success. We couldn’t have done it without your
support.
We extend sincere thanks to each of the donors and volunteers. Your time, talent, and
treasure made the evening truly extraordinary.
Sincerely,
Courtney Vasseghi and Lisa Ullman, Co-Chairs

Distinguished Faculty Award

Tuxedo Park School celebrates teachers, past and present, with the Distinguished
Faculty Award. This award was established in 2014 to recognize the many
contributions of faculty to the students of Tuxedo Park School.

On June 16, Head of School, Kathleen McNamara, presented this year’s Award to
Mr. John Ham, a master teacher, who has worked in education for 54 years and has
been a member of the TPS faculty for the past 17 years.

We look forward to celebrating next year’s honoree. Nominations for the next
recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Award are now being considered. If a
beloved TPS teacher has made an impact on your life, please contact Fiona Duffy
at [email protected].

John Ham – 2015 Honoree

John Ham’s first job after graduating from Washington and Lee University
took him to Wall Street where he soon realized that a career in academia
would be more intellectually appealing.

Mr. Ham began his career in education in 1961 at Grace Church School in
Manhattan. He taught History, Geography, and English and coached the
soccer, basketball, and baseball teams.

In 1964, Mr. Ham accepted a position at the Rippowam Cisqua School
in Bedford, NY teaching Geography, History, and Math, and coaching
basketball, softball and football - the latter of which he enjoyed most.
Mr. Ham was appointed Director of Secondary School Placement, though
he continued to coach and teach Honors Algebra.

In 1993, John was offered a position as an Assistant Professor of
American History, Western Civilization, Political Science and Economics
at St. Mary’s College in North Carolina.

In 1998, Mr. Ham left higher education to bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to the TPS campus as the
Director of Admissions and as the 9th Grade History teacher.

In 2010, a collaboration with Mr. Heard manifested into to the China culture and history curriculum, and the annual
Freshman trip to China. The study of Chinese history, traditions, and customs culminate in a trip to China which Mr.
Ham leads every March. His knowledge of history, politics and the world enrich this experience for TPS students.

His 9th grade History classes are legendary in alumni circles, and current students continue to benefit from TPS’ own
master teacher.

He is beloved and respected by his colleagues at Tuxedo Park School, which he has called home for over 17 years,
and is loved by his students, past and present, as well as members of the Tuxedo Park community.

Alumni Moms Lunch

The Pink House was once again a beautiful venue
for the annual TPS Alumni Moms Lunch. Parents
from all eras gathered as friends eager to reconnect
with each other and with TPS. This year we bid
farewell to Kathleen as Head of School and we
welcomed her to our Alumni Moms group.

After some talk of all the great things that are
happening at TPS, and after some good hearted
Green and Gold repartee, we left eager to see each
other soon!

Special thanks to Jen and Pat Jenkins, current
TPS parents, and their restaurant, Dottie
Audrey’s, for the delicious lunch.
