Crafter2Craftsman – the new Crafter on tour visiting the craftsmen of Europe
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is sending the new Crafter on a trip across Europe: four months, 42,000 kilometres, 30 countries. Non-stop. Through a huge range of di erent road conditions and climate zones. The aim: to nd extraordinary craftsmen in each and every country and discover what drives them on to nd perfection.
The new Crafter has been tailored to the needs and requirements of diverse user groups like never before. The result: a commercial vehicle that is more practical, cost-e cient and innovative than ever – and thus equal to all the challenges of everyday life in the manual trades.
Carsten Sass, Head of Sales in Germany, said: "We developed the new Crafter
in close collaboration with its target groups and paid particular attention to quality. Our aim
now with Crafter2Craftsmen
is to show how reliable the
new Crafter is and that it ts in perfectly into the operations of even the most out-of-the-ordinary craftsman."
The tour, called 'Crafter2Craftsmen', starts in Hannover, the headquarters of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand. From here it's o to the Hannover co ee-making business of Andreas Berndt (56). He roasts single-origin co ee and co ee blends, paying special attention to careful processing. His work as a master roaster
lls him with pride, as is quickly evident. He learned his trade at roasting houses all over Europe.
In the main, Berndt does the roasting himself. However, his sons Fabian (27) and Fleming (23) also lend a hand in the family business.
The next two stops for the Crafter will be France and Spain. From there it’s on to nd some
of the most passionate and unorthodox craftsmen in Europe, Morocco and Iceland. A bagpipe maker in Scotland, windmill restorer in the Netherlands, the Royal Danish ower supplier
or a blacksmith making axes in Sweden: what unites them all
is a passion for perfection. And over the coming months, the new Crafter – covering a distance approximately equivalent to the Earth's circumference – will be going through this quality check from the outset.

The rise and rise of Lei Shing Hong
Global automotive retailing group, Lei Shing Hong,
acquired its rst Mercedes-Benz dealership 45-years ago, marking the beginning of a long and prosperous journey for Lei Shing Hong, now the world’s largest dealer group for Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles.
Today the automotive arm of Lei Shing Hong operates 143 Mercedes-Benz dealerships all over the globe. In fact you will nd dealerships owned by the business in Australia, China, Vietnam and Cambodia, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia and Hong Kong with the UK joining the list this year - and in 2015 a total of 159,464 vehicles were sold worldwide by the business.
In 2016 the business acquired 10 dealerships in the UK, located in the Birmingham and Manchester areas.
At each dealership Lei Shing Hong works in close partnership with the Mercedes-Benz dealers, from the friendly and knowledgeable sales executives to the expert Mercedes-Benz
trained technicians, thus ensuring all customers continue to receive the best possible service. This also means customers who may have visited these dealerships before will be sure to see the same familiar faces, and Lei Shing Hong never under-estimates the value of the experience of the team.
This commitment to providing the highest-level of customer service is central to the core values of Lei Shing Hong,
and the business prides itself on developing the successful customer relationships at all its dealerships.
The premium service is mirrored with the premium cars available to all customers. As
the world’s largest Mercedes- Benz retailer there is a level of dedication, knowledge and experience to providing everything required by a customer that is often unrivalled.
So while rst class customer service is an essential aspect of the consumer experience at all Lei Shing Hong dealerships, the
business also continually strives to build long-term value for all customers providing the best – and most suitable – products and o ers for everyone that walks through the door. This promise
of long-term value is held in high esteem by the whole business and extends to all employees,
a vital and central part of every dealership, as well as business partners, shareholders and the wider society.
Central to the operation of
all Lei Shing Hong dealerships, as well as all the wider business arms, is an ethos to ensure each is run in an environmentally and socially responsible manner in keeping with all other core values and goals.
While the Automobile Division is the single largest business
unit within the Lei Shing Hong Group, there are ve core businesses (held through wholly own subsidiaries incorporated
in Hong Kong). These span across a wide range of areas covering; the development and management of premium grade retail and commercial facilities; the provision of specialist nancial services in asset backed nance and investment and services; trade in commodities specialising in wood-based products, watch components, fertilizers; and Lei Shing Hong is the world’s largest dealer of Caterpillar hydraulic excavators.

Toyota starts production of new C-HR Crossover
Toyota has o cially launched production of the new C-HR, a model that promises a radical injection of style, handling
and driving pleasure into the medium-size crossover market.
C-HR also signals a
further strengthening of Toyota’s European and British manufacturing operations, being built in Turkey with hybrid engines supplied by the company’s Deeside engine plant in North Wales and transmissions from Poland. Toyota has invested an additional £7.1 million in Toyota Manufacturing UK’s operations to bring the hybrid engine into production.
C-HR’s dynamic quality is rooted in its use of a Toyota New Global Architecture- based platform, securing fundamental advantages such as a low centre of gravity and a highly rigid body construction.
The model is the rst outside Japan to be manufactured using TNGA, which is a central element in Toyota’s commitment to build ever-better cars
Speaking at the line-o ceremony today at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey’s Sakarya factory, Dr Johan van Zyl, President and CEO Toyota Motor Europe, said: “The Toyota C-HR is a hugely important product for the whole of Toyota. The crossover segment is growing fast and this is our very strong entry into the segment.”
C-HR is unique in its part
of the market by o ering customers the choice of a smooth and e cient hybrid powertrain and it joins the British-built Auris and the French manufactured Yaris as Toyota’s third European-manufactured hybrid vehicle. The importance of this was emphasised by Moritaka Yoshida, President of
Toyota Motor Corporation’s mid- size vehicle company: “Hybrid de nes Toyota. Since the rst Prius in 1997 we have steadily convinced more and more customers around the world that hybrid vehicles are one of the best solutions to today’s environmental issues. We have now sold more than 9.5 million hybrids globally,” he said.
The introduction of C-HR
will increase annual production capacity at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey to 280,000 vehicles, including the established Corolla and Verso models built there. Toyota has invested around €350 million (approx. £312.5 million) in the plant for the new model, taking total investment in TMMT to €1.7 billion (approx. £1.5 billion) since the start of operations in 1994. The workforce has been increased by an additional 2,000 people to accommodate C-HR.

Toyota safety makes sense for 2017 RAV4
Toyota is putting safety rst among the changes for the 2017 version of its RAV4 compact SUV, making Toyota Safety Sense standard on all versions of the compact SUV, excepting only the entry level Active model, where it is now o ered as an option (price £1,060).
This equips RAV4 with functions that reduce the risk of a collision and warn the driver of hazards: a Pre-Collision System with autonomous emergency braking; Adaptive Cruise Control; Lane Departure Alert; Automatic High Beam operation; and Road Sign Assist.
Together these provide a signi cantly higher level of protection, re ected in insurance ratings that are up to six groups lower than for previous RAV4 models without Toyota
Safety Sense, thus helping reduce ownership
costs.
The popularity of the Toyota Touch 2 with Go multimedia and navigation package has
led to it being made a standard feature of all RAV4 models, bar the Active version, including three years’ free map updates. Range-topping Excel models bene t from more sophisticated navigation functions, including voice recognition and 3D maps.
Business Edition, Business Edition Plus and Icon models further gain front and rear parking sensors and ambient footwell lighting (the latter also added to Excel speci cation).
For Excel grade there is a new black roo ining (changed to grey when a sunroof is speci ed) and
a memory function for power adjustment of the driver’s seat.
RAV4 Excel customers can raise the speci cation of the car even higher with a new Premium Pack. This introduces hands- free power tailgate operation with a “kick” sensor beneath the rear bumper, making it simple
to access the loadspace when carrying bags or large items. The pack also provides a blind spot monitor and Rear Cross Tra c Alert, plus a sun roof.
The revised RAV4 range provides extra choice with the 2.0-litre D-4D front-wheel drive powertrain being made available in Business Edition Plus trim.

Government ultra-low emission vehicle funding helps bring more Toyota Mirai to Britain's eet
Twenty new Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell cars are set to join public and private sector eets in the UK, after winning support in the UK Government’s latest funding announcements to boost the number of ultra-low emission vehicles on Britain’s roads.
Twelve new Mirai customers, including the Science Museum, Aberdeen City Council and Arval are among the eet operators that have been successful in a competition to share £2 million to invest in new hydrogen fuel cell cars and vans. The new vehicles should be in service by April next year.
Mirai, a mid-size four-door saloon, is powered by electricity generated on-board by a Toyota- developed hydrogen fuel cell and produces no harmful emissions when driven – in fact the only by- product is water.

is part of the UK Government’s commitment to a £600 million investment in ultra-low emission vehicles by 2020.
Paul Van der Burgh Toyota (GB) President and Managing Director, said: “We are proud to be at the forefront of bringing the bene ts of ultra-low emission transport to the UK and welcome the Government’s announcement of funding that will enable more of our customers to introduce Mirai to their eets. Toyota is committed to producing vehicles that provide
sustainable mobility, developing breakthrough technologies that have successfully brought hybrid and now fuel cell vehicles to the marketplace.”
Toyota is supporting the roll- out of hydrogen-fuelled vehicles in the UK with the provision of specialist service centres for Mirai at additional locations across the country.
From next week, centres in London, Swindon, She eld, Swansea and Aberdeen will
help extend the reach of the technology, in line with the national H2 infrastructure network plan.
This week ITM Power opened a new public hydrogen refuelling station at the Centre of Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence (CEME) in Rainham, east London, a site that also hosts a Toyota Technical Training Centre, providing specialist training in hydrogen fuel cell technology.
The station is the second in the UK to make hydrogen on-site from solar energy, captured using
an array of photovoltaic panels, and follows ITM Power’s opening of a wind-powered station in Rotherham. It is the sixth facility to be delivered by the European HyFive project, funded by the European Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCHJU)
and the O ce of Low emission Vehicles (OLEV).
Seven Toyota Mirai were among 11 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles that took part in a zero emissions rally to mark the opening of the refuelling station this week, producing nothing
but water in their journey to
the new facility, located close
to the A13 arterial route and
the new Thames Gateway development. They followed two rally routes – one a 186-mile journey from a wind hydrogen station in Rotherham, the other
a cross-London trip from ITM’s refuelling station in Teddington, passing through the capital’s Low Emission Zone. Both routes
were well within Mirai’s driving range of around 300 miles on a full tank of fuel.

Road safety charity calls on eets to tackle distracted driving
Brake, the road safety charity, is calling on eet operators to crackdown on mobile phone
use at the wheel, as fewer than half (37.9%) of respondents in
its annual Fleet Safety Survey have an organisation-wide policy banning all employees from using hands-free phones at the wheel.
This year’s Fleet Safety Survey, conducted with the support of Licence Bureau, covered the six keyareasoftheBrakePledge:
• Slow–withinspeedlimits
• Sober – free from alcohol or
drugs
• Sharp – not tired, ill or with poor
eyesight
• Silent – phone o and out of
reach
• Secure – belted up in a safe
vehicle
• Sustainable – only when you
have to
More than 200 eet operators completed this survey; the majority of respondents are from the UK, with responses also coming from eets based in Asia, Africa, North
America, mainland Europe, and Australasia. Respondents manage a total of more than 190,000 vehicles including mopeds, cars, vans, trucks, and buses, and more than 170,000 employees driving for work. The size of the eets varied: the smallest were single-vehicle operators; the largest had over 80,000 vehicles.
Other key survey ndings include:
• Fewerthanoneinten respondents (7.6%) prioritise environmental concerns when making vehicle purchasing and leasing decisions.
• Only three in ten (33%) require a full eyesight test for all new sta who driver for work, or proof they had one recently.
• Only in one ten (11.7%) have vehicle safety ratings as their top priority when making purchasing and leasing decisions.
• Only ve in ten respondents (53.2%) strongly agree that their organisation sees licence
checking as a priority.
• Three in ten respondents
(31.1%) don’t provide any training, even at a remedial level, on staying within legal speed limits.
The Pledge is also the theme of this year’s Road Safety Week, which takes place 21 – 27 November 2016. The complete Fleet Safety Survey report is available as a free resource for BrakeProfessionalmembers, and any organisations that register for Road Safety Week.
Ellie Pearson, professional engagement manager at Brake, says: “The Pledge covers key areas of managing occupational road risk, so this year’s eet safety survey gives a really great snapshot of the policies and procedures that eets have in place to manage these areas of risk. I’d urge eet operators to see how their company measure up compared to our survey respondents, and to identify the
areas of road risk management where they can improve their practices.”
Mike Reed, marketing director at Licence Bureau, says: “This year’s Brake Pledge is a great focal point for eet management. Especially when the ndings of the eet safety survey highlight many quali ed areas for improvement. Take your time read through it. See what you are missing and where you can make a di erence.”

Instead of opting for classic shiny white wedding cars for their recent nuptials, one couple at the heart of Yorkshire’s farming community chose instead a eet of 11 rugged Isuzu D-Max pick- ups.
David Lee and his bride Esther tied the knot on Saturday 10 September in Croft-on-Tees, Yorkshire. The couple run a farm in Thirsk and David also operates a contract sheep pregnancy scanning service for other farmers in the region. Both David and Esther run Isuzu D-Max pick- ups, which is a rm favourite for farmers across the UK thanks
to its ability to cope with tough workloads and challenging rural terrain, while also being re ned and comfortable inside.
It was no surprise then that
on their wedding day, the groom chose to arrive at the church in style in his own Isuzu D-Max, while a whole eet of D-Max vehicles, all owned by family members and friends, gracefully delivered ushers and bridesmaids to the ceremony. After completing their nuptials, the newlyweds
were chau eured to the reception in Borrowby in Esther’s own comprehensively accessorised D-Max.
Even the local Isuzu dealership helped out, as Colin Huggins, sales manager at York Van Centre, an o cial Isuzu franchise dealer, explains. “We heard that Mr Lee and his bride, as well
as their family and friends, were using D-Max’s for their wedding day, and we were delighted to o er them our demonstrators
– in ‘Blade’ and ‘Huntsman’ speci cation – for transporting other members of the wedding party.
“The procession of gleaming, ribbon-adorned Isuzu pick-ups making their way through the Yorkshire countryside was an amazing sight, and I’m proud that we played a part in making the day extra special for the bride and groom.”
The Lees will have to be parted from their beloved and dependable D-Max pick-ups on their honeymoon, as there was no room for them on the ight to Kefalonia!

Mill: the largest Volvo dealer group in the UK
If you thought Volvo didn’t manage smaller eets, think again. Mill Business o ers a range of funding plans to help your cash ow from simple payment plans to complete package contract hire plans to t all needs.
Having provided Fleet Solutions to both small and national companies for over 20 years, Mill Business is proud to be the largest Volvo Dealer
Group in the UK.
If a car was a person, then
a Volvo would be a Geordie, pronounces Bill Ward, joint owner and managing director of the region’s Volvo dealership Mill Garages, of Newcastle.
“They are both strong, reliable, caring and Nordic. The Volvo is a great car for the North East.”
Mill Garages was started by George Rawlings just after
the Second World War on Newcastle Road, Sunderland, close to the site of a windmill.
Its relationship with Volvo stretches back almost 20 years and now has operations in Newcastle, where the head o ce is based, Hexham, Sunderland, Stockton and Harrogate.
“We have to empower people. Give people opportunities to shine. Some people surround themselves with poor sta to protect their positions. It is important to surround yourself with good people. It’s good to identify your successor. That is a sign of con dence.”
The qualities Ward looks for are resilience, enthusiasm and determination. In his salesman he looks for people who believe in Volvo.
“You have to believe in a product to be able to sell it. You have to be able to give a little bit more. Here at Mill we aim to give a bit more.”
It appears the days when
the brand was seen as middle aged and boring are long gone, with the age pro le of its owners plummeting.
Mills’ ability to sell Volvos into their home market is double that of other regional UK dealers.
And as the region has become a more fashionable and cosmopolitan place in which
to live in recent years, perhaps his assertion that Geordies are Volvos and vice versa does not, on closer examination, appear so fanciful.

The new Ford Kuga enables

Braced for the next storm: new side wind stabilisation tech steadies Ford Transits whatever the weather
As winter storms hit, strong gusting winds provide an additional challenge to motorists, particularly those driving high- sided vehicles.
That’s why all new Ford Transit and Transit Custom commercial vehicles are tted as standard with a new technology that helps drivers stay in lane when their van is hit by a sudden crosswind or the turbulence created by a large truck.
Side Wind Stabilisation is
an advanced feature that was developed by Ford engineers, and works by carefully applying the brakes on one side of the vehicle to reduce the e ect of a side wind gust on the vehicle’s path.
“No-one likes that feeling when your vehicle gets caught by a
wind gust, or you are passing close to a fast-moving truck,” said Marc Suermann, chassis controls supervisor, Ford of Europe. “This new technology will help make driving less stressful for Transit drivers, particularly on those dark and stormy winter days.”
At vehicle speeds over 50mph, the Side Wind Stabilisation system monitors stability
sensors 100 times per second.
If a sudden gust is detected, the feature can become active within less than 200 milliseconds – the time it takes a sprinter to react to the starting pistol.
Ford engineers tested the new system at a special test track which uses six powerful fans to generate crosswinds
of up to 50mph, as well as on public roads in areas which are
notorious for strong winds on the coast.
The Side Wind Stabilisation technology is o ered on Ford’s latest Transit and Transit Custom models that feature the state- of-the-art Ford EcoBlue diesel engine, delivering signi cant cost of ownership and performance bene ts, with fuel e ciency improved by up to 13% and low- end torque by 20%.
Advanced new driver assistance features for both models also include the Pre- Collision Assist emergency braking system – the rst in the segment to feature Pedestrian Detection technology – that reduces the severity of some frontal collisions involving vehicles and pedestrians, or helps drivers avoid some impacts altogether.

Fiat Professional Fiorino triumphs in MPG marathon
The all-new Fiat Professional Fiorino has underscored its nancial appeal to UK eets and business users with an impressive triumph on its MPG Marathon debut.
The stylish newcomer
is the latest version of the original small van which established a new commercial vehicle segment. It topped a ercely contested eld for fuel economy to win the annual economy driving challenge’s van category.
Driven by former eet manager Doug Powell with co-driver Tony Waddington, the Fiorino excelled for
fuel economy, returning
an overall 72.08 mpg –
nearly 18 mpg more than
its nearest competitor and
an improvement of 12.28

“We are absolutely delighted to see the new Fiat Professional Fiorino perform so well in the MPG Marathon and especially to see it lead the pack so convincingly in terms of fuel economy,” says Alejandro Noriega, Country Manager, Fiat Professional.

Legendary Ducato celebrates its 35th birthday
Sold in more than 80 countries worldwide and with an incredible 10,000 variants, the legendary Fiat Ducato is celebrating its 35th birthday.
The ever-popular van,
which has become as iconic
as a camper as it has as a commercial vehicle, marked the milestone this week.
Since the rst Ducato rolled o the production line at Val
di Sangro’s SEVEL (Società Europea Veicoli Leggeri)
factory in October 1981, it has consistently been a market leader in versatility, engine power and low running costs.
Today, the sixth-generation Ducato is produced in three countries (Mexico, Brazil and Italy), with a better payload than ever (2,100kg) and even the option of air suspension.
O ering a range of diesel engines and with second- generation MultiJet technology, it sets the bar in terms of e ciency and low maintenance costs.
Other milestones reached over the years include the introduction of Steyr-Puch all-wheel drive
in 1989, the all-electric Ducato Elettra launched in the early 1990s and winning International Van of the Year in 1994.
Its third-generation variant became a game changer when, for the rst time in the sector, the gear lever was incorporated into the central console, facilitating access to the cab from both doors and from the cab to the loading compartment.
In the early 2000s it led the way for alternative fuels in Europe with its petrol/methane engine, while the fth-generation Ducato, launched in 2006, was the rst front-wheel-drive van to o er a volume of 17 cubic metres.
The popularity of the Ducato shows no sign of stopping with more than ve million sales since its launch. Sold in more than 80 countries worldwide, including North America since 2013 by RAM under the name of PROMASTER, the Ducato is now produced in three countries (Mexico, Brazil and Italy) and is a truly global vehicle and a leader in the light commercial vehicles sector.

The JCT600 story – a family
business at heart
Last year was hugely signifcant as we marked our 70th anniversary.
Our story began in 1946 when Edward Tordo and two other partners established Tordo Motors Ltd. Following the death of his father, Jack Tordo bought all the shares and built a new showroom next to the original garage. Having bought a Mercedes 600 bearing the registration plate ‘JCT600’ – Jack’s initials and the car model – he was inspired to create the brand we know today.
Find out more
about JCT600’s history by viewing our videos with Chairman Jack Tordo
From those humble beginnings, JCT600 has grown into one of the UK’s largest and most respected motor retailers, representing 18 of the worlds most iconic
brands across 50 locations throughout Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and the North East.
People are the key to our success. With around 2,000 colleagues and four generations of the Tordo
family among these, JCT600 remains a proud family business. Yet despite our stature, with annual
turnover in excess of £1bn, our vision remains the same as it’s always been – we don’t want to be the
biggest, we just want to be the best!
We are enormously proud of the support we o er to our annual nominated charity and the
numerous others close to our colleagues’ hearts. We are honoured to support our local communities through various sponsorship
programmes, both large and small, and actively promote Environmental Awareness through a
range of initiatives and investment.

Built at the Douai plant in
Northern France alongside Talisman and Espace, All-New Scénic and Grand Scénic uses the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s versatile new Common Module Family (CMF) architecture, which is used on the All-New Mégane, Kadjar, Espace and Talisman.
The platform allows a wide range of cars of di erent sizes to be created using a variety of modules consisting of out-of-view parts, and is based around ve available modules: cockpit, engine bay, front underbody, rear underbody and electronic architecture.
At launch there is a choice
of ve engines on o er – two Energy TCe turbocharged petrol options with capacities and power outputs of 1.2-litre/115hp (manual only) and 1.2-litre/130hp (manual only). The turbodiesel alternatives are a 1.5-litre dCi 110 unit (manual or EDC), a 1.6-litre dCi 130 engine (manual only) or a 1.5-litre dCi 160 engine (EDC only).
From Spring 2017, Renault’s innovative Hybrid Assist engine electri cation technology will be available with the model’s popular dCi 110 diesel unit and mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The electric motor is powered by a 48-volt battery which takes over some of the work of the internal combustion engine to provide low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions without compromising the driving enjoyment and performance delivered by the dCi 110 engine. During deceleration, the Motor Generation Unit recovers energy for use by
the vehicle’s electrical system and for storing in the system’s independent battery. It also serves as a 10kW motor which
functions in association with the internal combustion engine when the driver re-accelerates. Hybrid Assist allows fuel consumption and CO2 emissions to be reduced by approximately 8 to 10 per cent in comparison with the standard dCi 110 engine. The Hybrid Assist versions of All-New Scénic and Grand Scénic will have class-leading emissions
of 92 g/km of CO2 and NEDC (combined) economy of 80.7mpg.
An E cient Dual Clutch (EDC) six-speed automatic gearbox is available with the dCi 110 and dCi 160 engines. The dCi 110 EDC Automatic provides emissions
as low as 104 g/km of CO2, compared to 100 g/km of CO2 for the manual version. The dCi 160 EDC Automatic o ers 118 g/ km of CO2.
Thanks to the engine’s Stop&Start system, which is standard on all models, the availability of a double-clutch EDC transmission, an ECO driving mode which optimises
the engine’s performance when cruising and the Renault Driving eco2 feature to help owners adopt a more economical driving style and standard brake energy recovery, the ve engines and two transmissions from launch o er fuel economy of up to 72.4mpg (NEDC Combined), with CO2 emissions as low as 100g/km.
All versions are covered by Renault’s four year warranty. The car is protected for four years
or 100,000 miles ( rst two years have no mileage limit). There is also a three-year paint warranty and 12 years’ cover against corrosion. Servicing is required once a year or every 18,000 miles.

Honda models outperform industry RV forecasts
2017 British- built Civic Type R shortlisted for What Car? award
The British-built Honda Civic Type R has been shortlisted
for the coveted What Car? reader award and is among the most eagerly anticipated car launches of 2017.
Made in Swindon and expected in showrooms in the latter half of 2017, the next generation Civic Type R comes hot on the heels of the current car, which was launched in summer 2015. Debuted as a prototype at the Paris Motor Show back in September, the mass production version is expected to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March next year.
With over 10,000 readers expected to vote on a list of 2017 car launches compiled by the experts at What Car?, the competition is erce as the award is a valuable indication of sentiment towards cars being brought to market in the next year.
Honda last won the award in 2015 when the HR-V claimed a massive 25% of the 10,000 votes, and came a close second in 2016 with the NSX.
Two of Honda’s newest and most popular models – the stylish Jazz city car and acclaimed HR-V crossover – have outperformed all forecasts to achieve market- leading residual value levels, according to the latest gures from RV setters CAP.
The gures from CAP’s ‘Black Book’ show the Honda HR-V Diesel will hold an impressive 77% of its value after twelve months/20,000 miles – up to 15% more than the Nissan Qashqai and even further ahead of other crossover competitors.
And while the Jazz may be compact, its RVs are anything but. CAP’s data shows the model retains an incredible 12% more than the Ford Fiesta.
In addition, the latest generation of the Jazz is performing signi cantly better than its predecessor, with RVs for year-old models some 16% higher.
The results underline the quality and appeal of both
the Jazz and HR-V and are underpinned by Honda’s legendary reputation for reliability.
What’s more, they demonstrate the continual progress that’s been made by the brand in improving residual values across the board.
Phil Webb, Head of Cars at Honda (UK), said: “As a brand Honda has been working very hard in close co-operation
with the industry to improve residual values for all our models. Unlike rivals, we do not force registrations through heavily discounted channels and this is paying dividends.
“The RVs being achieved by the Jazz and HR-V equal those
of premium brand models and
far exceed even our own original forecasts. We now expect to see similarly impressive residual value gures for the all-new 2017 Civic.”

exceptional value for money. The Caddy Black Edition

New Volkswagen Transporter
A BlueMotion version of the sixth-generation Transporter panel van is now available to order from Volkswagen Van Centres, adding impressive economy to the multi-award- winning van’s already long list of credentials.
The most frugal edition of the T6 short wheelbase panel van has at its heart the proven 2.0-litre TDI 102 PS Euro 6 common rail diesel engine. Even in standard Startline form with ve-speed manual gearbox, this van returned impressive economy and CO2 gures: 47.9 mpg and 153 g/ km. The BlueMotion model
is capable of returning 51.4 mpg on the combined cycle (a seven per cent improvement) and CO2 emissions reduced to 145 g/km.
In order to achieve these improvements, the new BlueMotion Transporter adds aerodynamically improved wheel spoilers and lowered suspension, modi ed gear ratios, low friction tyres, cruise control and a speed limiter
(to 62 mph) to the standard BlueMotion Technology modi cations which come as standard on all T6 models. These include Stop/Start and battery regeneration systems.

Game-changing Ford Ecoblue Diesel stars at Hannover
The advanced all-new Ford EcoBlue diesel engine takes centre stage at the 2016 IAA Hannover Commercial Vehicle Show, delivering improved cost of ownership and performance in Ford’s latest Transit and Transit Custom models.
The Ford EcoBlue engine powers every vehicle displayed on Ford’s Hannover stand, and provides commercial vehicle operators with fuel e ciency improved by up to 13 per cent compared with the outgoing 2.2-litre TDCi engine, with
CO2 emissions from 157g/
km, and delivers signi cant improvements in low-rpm torque for enhanced driveability.
“Ford’s EcoBlue engine is
a real diesel game changer, combining reduced cost of ownership with outstanding performance and cleaner emissions,” said Bernhard Mattes, Chairman, Ford of Germany. “As our sales growth shows, Ford already o ers
the most advanced line-up of commercial vehicles in Europe, and the all-new Ford EcoBlue engine takes it to a new level.”
All-new Ford EcoBlue diesel – cheaper to run, better to drive
The all-new 2.0-litre
Ford EcoBlue diesel uses a completely new architecture engineered to provide the next- generation of clean, e cient and re ned engines for future Ford
cars and commercial vehicles. The 2.0-litre engine has
been developed with the
latest turbocharging, fuel injection, combustion system, structural design and low- friction technologies to deliver signi cant improvements in fuel e ciency, performance and operating re nement, while delivering the outstanding durability and low cost-of- ownership demanded for a Transit power unit.
Available now in the latest Transit and Transit Custom models, the 2.0-litre Ford EcoBlue engine is o ered in 105PS, 130PS and 170PS power ratings, each of which o ers increased power and torque compared with the outgoing 2.2-litre engine. Improved low-end pulling
power – with 20 per cent more torque at 1,250rpm – delivers more exible and responsive performance in everyday driving.
Lower running costs are
supported by signi cantly improved fuel e ciency.
Transit van models equipped with optional Auto-Start-Stop achieve CO2 emissionsfrom 174g/km and average fuel consumption from 42.8mpg – a 10 per cent reduction over the equivalent outgoing model.
Transit Custom vehicles tted with optional Auto-Start-Stop deliver CO2 emissionsfrom 157g/km with average fuel consumption from 46.3mpg
– 13 per cent down from the equivalent outgoing model.
Ford anticipates a fuel cost saving of up to £1,250 over 80,000 miles for the operator of a new 105PS Transit Custom van compared with the previous 100PS model.
Scheduled maintenance costs are also reduced,
with the extended variable service intervals of up to two years/36,000 miles o ering up to an additional 6,000 miles between services on both Transit and Transit Custom models, intervals that are not exceeded by any competitor.
The Ford EcoBlue diesel engine has been engineered
to meet Ford’s rigorous commercial vehicle durability standards, powering Transit vehicles through the equivalent of 3.4 million miles of punishing durability testing, including 250,000 miles of testing at
the hands of real-world Transit customers.
