The new Volkswagen Crafter: designed with customers
The rst sketches of the new Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Crafter, which is due to be launched this autumn, have been revealed today. Clearly displaying Volkswagen’s design DNA and conceived as the ‘big brother’ of the T-series, the all-new Crafter promises innovation, plus a high level of functionality and quality.
The new Crafter is a completely new vehicle. Experts at Volkswagen Commercial vehicles have worked closely with current customers, frequently accompanying them during their daily routines, to explore their needs and nd out
their visions of what they wanted the new Crafter to be, allowing them to help shape the new generation.
This is now re ected in both the function and design: the approach, according to Albert- Johann Kirzinger, Head of Design at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWN), was thoroughly analytical: "In the commercial vehicle sector especially, design has got to work for lots of di erent customer groups."
At 0.33, the new Crafter has a best in class drag coe cient; and inside it combines great everyday practicality with
optimum cargo space. The new design language shown on the Crafter will continue across all new commercial vehicle derivatives and models.
Kirzinger adds: “Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' T-series, the 'Bulli', is e ectively being given a 'big brother' through the introduction of the new Crafter. With the Crafter, a level of surface quality, robustness and at the same time high qualitative value are achieved that have never before been available in this commercial vehicle class.”

Citroën’s Ready to Run programmes
win Trade Van Driver Best Conversion

Citroën enjoyed a successful start to the Commercial Vehicle Show yesterday, winning the Trade Van Driver Magazine
‘Best Conversion Range’ award 2016. Magazine Editor, Matthew Eisenegger, presented the award to Jeremy Smith in recognition
of the Citroën Relay Ready to Run and Ready to Run Specialist programmes.

Citroën’s recently-expanded Relay Ready to Run range of ready-bodied vehicles already included high-speci cation, competitively priced tippers, dropsides and Luton vans. Now it also o ers: a Plant & Go small plant carrier; a car transporterand
two new crew vans.
The Plant & Go small plant
carrier is an important addition to the Relay Ready to Run range. One of the major advantages of the carrier, for many eets, is that it eliminates the need for a trailer, which is often seen as a costly capital investment. The vehicle has the ability to transport one large, or two or more smaller items of plant.
The Type Approved Relay- based car transporter has been converted by KFS Special Vehicles and speci cally targets the vehicle logistics and dealer stock movement sectors. With a drop frame chassis design that is exclusive to KFS, the
car transporter has a 1,760kg kerb weight, achieved thanks to innovative engineering and extensive use of lightweight materials.
Finally, the Relay Ready to Run Enterprise Crew Van is available in L1H1 and L3H2 con gurations, powered by a 2.2-litre HDi engine (110hp and 130hp outputs respectively), which is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.
The success of Citroën’s Relay Ready to Run & Ready to Run Specialist programmes was, according to the judges, due to; “The diversity and capability of the products within the range. The Ready to Run range of tippers, dropsides and Luton vans – now joined by the car transporter, plant carrier and crew vans – formally embraces what the trade needs, all with the added bene t of being available ex-stock with the peace-of-mind provided by a full Citroën factory warranty on both chassis and conversion.”

New Citroën Dispatch makes world premiere at CV Show
The New Citroën Dispatch is set to become the ideal partner for UK professionals, with enhanced practicality, comfort and safety stemming from new design features, architecture and technologies.
The global public reveal of the New Citroën Dispatch will take place at 9.15am on the Citroën stand (Stand No. D40/Hall 5)

Citroën is to launch a new generation of the ever popular Dispatch LCV, featuring new technologies, design features and architecture, as well as functions that are new to the segment. The New Citroën Dispatch is the rst vehicle of its type to o er hands- free sliding side doors and a head- up display, as well as numerous
other technologies that make working lives easier and safer.
Designed with a wide range of professionals in mind (including tradespeople, construction workers, local authority employees and delivery and service professionals), the new vehicle
will be available in van, Combi and Crew Vanversions, as well as being speci ed in three lengths (XS: 4.60m, M: 4.95m and XL: 5.30m).
Further to the hands-free sliding doors and the colour head- up display, new features include Driver Attention Alert, Active Safety Brake, Citroën Connect Nav and Mirror Link systems, and a wide range of optional extras to suit every professional’s unique needs.
Launched in 1995, the original Citroën Dispatch sold 600,000 units. New Dispatch joins the Nemo, Berlingo and Relay as part of Citroën’s broad modern range of LCVs.
The New Citroën Dispatch
possesses owing, aggression- free styling that conveys a sense of assurance and robustness.
The front end consists of
a short, horizontally-styled bonnet underscored by broad, high-set headlights, denoting a commanding view of the road.
The brand signature is positioned as part of the grille, extending from both sides of the chevrons to the insides of the headlights. The front features
a broad reassuring bumper
with built-in black air intakes, emphasising the robust styling of the new model.
The styling can be further enhanced with a Look Pack. This option includes body-coloured front and rear bumpers, door handles, door mirrors and side mouldings, plus a front light signature with vertical LED daytime running lights and fog lamps.
From the side, with its wide sliding side doors, the New Dispatch promises a capacious interior and suggests the broad range of conversion possibilities available.
The New Citroën Dispatch
is built on a latest-generation modular platform (based the EMP2 platform), which has been designed speci cally for the new model. The platform has a reinforced structure with special new front and rear axles. It supports a payload of up to 1,400kg and can tow up to 2.5 tonnes.

Citroën’s double success at Vans A2Z Awards
Citroën retained the ‘One- Stop Shop’ title – and won the best ‘Diesel Eco Van’ prize – at the Vans A2Z Awards, held in Twickenham at the end of last week.
For the second year in a row, and against strong competition from across the industry, Citroën’s recently expanded ‘Relay Ready to Run’ and ‘Ready to Run Specialist Range’ programmes were voted the most comprehensive packages o ered by any UK manufacturer – securing the ‘One-Stop Shop’ title.
In the Diesel Eco Van of
the Year category, the Citroën Berlingo took the top honour. The judging panel praised the Berlingo for its impressive fuel economy, its emission-reducing technologies and Citroën’s e orts in providing greener motoring for eets through a variety of other cost-saving initiatives.
The availability, choice and quality of the ever-evolving
list of conversions included in Citroën’s specialist ready-bodied programmes impressed the Vans A2Z judges. The Relay Ready to Run range is currently being expanded – joining the established range of high-

Vans A2Z Editor, Neil McIntee, had rst-hand experience of the Berlingo’s eco credentials, having steered a Berlingo BlueHDi 100 S&S manual L2 750 LX to the top of its class in the Fleet World MPG Marathon last year. In the event, the Berlingo returned 68.64mpg – a gure that was almost 2% better than its o cial combined cycle fuel economy gure (67.30mpg). “The new Euro 6 BlueHDi 100 engine
has strong mid-range torque characteristics, which aids fuel economy and further improves the driving experience in real- world conditions,” said McIntee.
The Citroën Berlingo is unique in its sector, because customers have a full complement of powertrain options. As well
as the BlueHDi diesel engine variants, there is a Euro 6 petrol- powered version that can be converted to LPG and a full electric version of the van too. The Berlingo van’s other eco credentials includes micro-hybrid technology and its associated stop-start functionality. All of this played a key role in the Berlingo van achieving best-selling status in its sector last year with 16,210 units sold and a 19% sector market share.

Volkswagen celebrates sweet victory for Polo at Auto Express Awards 2016
he all-conquering Volkswagen Polo is once again Britain’s best supermini buy according to the experts at respected automotive consumer title Auto Express.
Britain’s biggest-selling weekly car magazine puts the Polo, Volkswagen’s second-best seller in the UK behind the Golf, top of the supermini stack for the second year running.
Announcing the Volkswagen’s victory in the 2016 Awards’ hotly contested supermini class Auto Express Editor-in-chief Steve Fowler said: “A 2015 facelift kept the Volkswagen Polo looking fresh and boosted its charm, and this year the German brand has added even more e cient engine options that see the supermini once again edge ahead of its rivals.
“The Polo now shares Volkswagen’s 1.0-litre three- cylinder petrol engine with
the smaller up! city car, but there’s also a more potent turbo version available. Even the lower-powered model is su cient, thrumming along at motorway speeds with plenty of re nement. However, if you need a bit more oomph, the punchy and e cient 1.2 TSI engine is the one to go for.
“Volkswagen released a sporty new R-Line model this year to address one of the Polo’s biggest downfalls, which ensured the supermini can no longer be accused of looking
a little safe or lacking style.
The R-Line bodykit and bigger wheels add some extra interest to the car’s solid surfaces and sharp creases. It looks like a smaller Golf – which is no bad thing – and that’s reinforced from the moment you shut the door with a solid thunk. The cabin is very well built and feels genuinely upmarket.”

Fiat Fiorino announced
The FIAT Professional Fiorino, the original small van that established a new commercial vehicle segment, has been refreshed for 2016 to consolidate its market position and o er even more to the professional user. The new Fiorino retains the compact dimensions that make it perfect for use in cities, agile in tra c and easy to park, without sacri cing any of its remarkable load capacity of up to 2.8 m3 or payload capacity of up to 660kg. The evolution of the FIAT Professional Fiorino introduces some modern design touches, inside and out, with new features that will propel
it to the top of its class in terms of performance, running costs, comfort and functionality.
In terms of style, the front bumper of the new FIAT Professional Fiorino has been completely refreshed in line with the sophisticated design language of the FIAT Professional range while retaining the high-mounted headlamps that are not only synonymous with the Fiorino's identity but also have a practical role in improving visibility and ensuring they are less susceptible to parking mishaps. New 15-
inch wheel covers and 15-inch, diamond nish, burnished alloy wheels completes the external revisions.
The new Fiorino retains its commodious, squared-o load compartment accessible thorough large rear doors that open to 180 degrees and have ergonomic vertical handles that are designed
to be approached from either side and opened with minimal e ort - very useful when the operator's arms are full! Functional options includes a folding, retractable passenger seat which can be used as a desk or folded at to carry objects of up to 2.5 metres in length.

The comprehensive line-up of engines - all Euro 6 - can satisfy all needs. The range features two turbo-diesel 1.3 MultiJet II engines with outputs of 80 and 95hp as well as a 77hp 1.4-litre naturally-aspirated petrol unit.
Both diesel engines are o er strong performance and cost- e ectiveness, both in terms of fuel-e ciency and maintenance, while the new EcoJet version employs additional fuel-saving technologies such as a Start & Stop system, a "smart" alternator and a variable displacement oil pump. Paired with a Comfort- Matic robotised transmission
– the only vehicle in the segment to o er such a transmission -
the FIAT Professional Fiorino EcoJet is capable of 74.3 MPG (3.8L/100km) on the combined cycle with emissions of 100 grams of CO2 per kilometre, meaning a fuel saving of up to 14 percent compared to the manual transmission without EcoJet. The new FIAT Professional Fiorino o ers all the safety systems of its predecessor, including standard ABS with EBD, ESC complete with ASR, HBA, and Hill Holder with parking sensors and front passenger and side airbags available as options.

The combined e ect of Arctic Trucks’ specialised suspension and larger tyres is a ride height 125mm higher than that of
the equivalent standard Isuzu D-Max. With the increased ground clearance comes greater approach, departure and break-over angles. The
– just as its D-Max stablemates can – as well as traverse more extreme topography than ever before. Meanwhile, passengers remain as well catered for as ever in the re ned and well-appointed premium interior.

Isuzu o ers the largest range of automatic pick-up models
on the market and buyers of
the double-cab AT35 can also specify auto transmission. The ve-speed automatic features sequential manual shift control so that drivers can take direct control of gear selection for a more engaging experience – or allow the transmission to operate fully automatically to suit their mood and the terrain.
AT35 sits 55mm higher than a standard double-cab D-Max, making for six degrees’ extra approach angle gain, and an added 10 degrees ramp angle exibility. Furthermore, drivers and passengers bene t from improved all-round visibility, a great advantage for identifying the safest route to an ultimate destination, whether that’s across ice elds in Norway or icy moors of North Yorkshire.
The AT35 can haul more than a tonne of on-board cargo and up to 3.5 tonnes in a braked trailer (where the terrain allows)

The double-cab model also includes full leather upholstery for an even more luxurious interior, as well as automatic climate control air-conditioning. This is controlled by a large, circular Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) selector located on the cabin’s centre console, which allows occupants to control temperature and fan settings with a single dial. The system automatically maintains the set temperature for optimal passenger comfort.

Record-breaking Sprinter wins ‘Fleet Van of the Year’ for ninth time at Motor Transport Awards
The superb Sprinter has scooped the highly-prized ‘Fleet Van of the Year’ accolade at the Motor Transport Awards for the ninth year – smashing its own record in the number of times this honour has been claimed by Mercedes-Benz Vans.
The Sprinter emerged victorious with its latest makeover giving the van a fresh new look, improved driving capability and
a host of new safety features.
The Motor Transport jury of eet van operators felt the all-round package from Mercedes-Benz
– reliability, performance and operational e ciency – gave it the edge over its rivals. “We have a very demanding operation, which puts the focus on reliability and durability,” one judge commented. “The Sprinters we run make a signi cant contribution to our operation. When something does go wrong, which isn’t very often, the Mercedes network is quick
to react and get us back on the road.”
“That three-pointed star
on the grille counts for a lot,” another judge commented. “We know what we’re going to get, a reliable, consistent performer.”
Motor Transport Editor Steve Hobson added: “The Sprinter is
a worthy winner of the title Fleet Van of the Year. It continues to set new standards for driver safety and comfort as well as being a reliable, economical and hard- working vehicle.”
Transport Awards took place last night at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane in London, with Kevin Ferris, Head of Strategic Planning at Mercedes-Benz Vans collecting the accolade.

Since the ‘Fleet Van of the Year’ category was introduced at the Motor Transport Awards 14 years ago, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has lifted the trophy in 2013, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2004 and 2003.
The new Sprinter was the world’s rst van to meet the future Euro VI emissions standard,
and also introduced standard- t Crosswind Assist to the industry. The large van is available in a choice of three wheelbases, four lengths, and three loading space heights, as well as a 4x4 variant, o ering a payload to 2,532 kg and volume to 17 m3.The rst version of Sprinter was presented almost 21 years ago and since 2000, a driver airbag has been standard, with Adaptive ESP® new in 2006.
