Theme: Ensuring Liberty, Justice and Equality for all!
Focuses: Gender Equality and Empowerment (SDG5) and Reduced Inequalities (SDG10) Building
Empowerment Session ONE: Listen Up! Turn Up the Volume Ruth
~Gender Equality: Calling Out Sexual Harassment Dr. Sharon Fletcher
Sexual harassment can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. “It violates basic Christian values of justice,
equality, respect, dignity, chastity, and peace. It goes against the call to practice kindness, gentleness,
faithfulness, mutual support, and to love one another as ourselves.” It’s crucial…be prepared, watch, look and
listen so you can be ready to call out sexual harassment if and when it occurs.
Empowerment Session TWO: Change the Channel Johnson
~Gender Equality: Promoting STEM Education Sister Robin Porter Smith
Hidden Figures, the movie based on the “incredible untold story” of three brilliant African-American female
mathematicians at NASA, included the conversation below:
Karl Zielinski: “Let me ask you, if you were a white male, would you like to be an engineer?”
Mary Jackson: “I wouldn’t have to. I’d already be one.”
Now, decades later, gender and race continue to limit the exposure of students to science, technology,
engineering and mathematics education. This workshop will provide an overview of STEM careers and
organizations available to assist youth in your church and community to walk in the footsteps of Dorothy
Vaughn, Mary Jackson and Katherine Johnson.
Empowerment Session THREE: Spread the Word Peale
~Reduced Inequalities: Shrinking the Wage Gap Dr. Vernessa Bowles
Women comprise almost half of the workforce, but earn less than men in nearly every occupation. In 2015,
female full-time employees made only 80 cents for every dollar earned by men, creating a wage gap of 20
percent. In an effort to eliminate discriminatory practices, the United Nations has launched the Equal Pay
International Coalition to promote equal work for equal pay. This issue is simply too important to be
ignored…join us in this session as we identify proactive ways to support pay equity.

Theme: “Together, We are Stronger!”
Biblical Foundation:
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up
his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two
lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail
against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
