INTRODUCTION

Who is Tun Hussein Onn

Tun Hussein bin Dato' Onn was the third Prime Minister of Malaysia, he
served as Prime Minister from 1976 to 1981. A much beloved and respected
politician, he was fondly called "Bapa Perpaduan". He was a gentle and
calm person who always emphasized on the welfare of his country and well-
being of the citizen.

Passionate about serving his country, he joined the military force soon
after leaving school and also served in the Middle East when the Second
World War broke out. Intelligent, brave and competent, he was appointed an
instructor at the Malayan Police Recruiting and Training Centre in
Rawalpindi after the war.

Eventually he returned to Malaysia and joined the Malaya Civil Service as
an assistant administrative officer. He became the Prime Minister of
Malaysia in 1976 and played a significant role in promoting unity among
the various communities in Malaysia

He was born in Johor Bahru and is the eldest son of Dato 'Onn Jaafar Background Detail
who
established the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) in Of Tun Hussein Onn
1946.
His mother, Datin Halimah Hussein. Name : Hussein Bin Onn Beginning in 1942, he was actively involved
in the wars in Egypt, Syria, Palestine, Iran
Date of birth : 12 Feb 1922 and Iraq. When World War II broke out in
the Asian region, he was stationed at the

Hussein Onn received his early education at Telok Kurau
School Singapore , now Telok Kurau Primary School and at English
College (now Sultan Abu Bakar College ), Johor Bahru . After his
schooling, Hussein Onn joined the Johor Army as a cadet in 1940. A year
later, he was sent to Sandhurst Military College , in Dehradun , India . After
commissioning, he joined the 19th Hyderabad Regiment (Indian Army) and
served in the Middle East during the war. After the war,
the British governmentappointed him as an instructor at the "Malayan
Police Recruitment and Training Center" in Rawalpindi .

CAREER

He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sri Gading from 1974 to 1981,
representing Barisan Nasional (BN) and United Malays National
Organisation (UMNO). He was granted the soubriquet "Bapa
Perpaduan" (Father of Unity).
