Telepon, (0341) 323214 E-mail: [email protected] Abstrak Di era globalisasi, teknologi memiliki peran penting dalam setiap sektor kehidupan manusia, termasuk dalam dunia pendidikan sehingga pembelajaran berbasis elektronik tidak asing lagi bagi siswa. Dari perkembangan zaman ini, guru harus mengikuti arus zaman yang semakin modern ini, yang harus beralih dari pembelajaran konvensional ke pembelajaran berbasis elektronik. Maka pada penelitian ini peneliti mengimplementasikan sebuah aplikasi yang sangat ramah kepada mahasiswa yaitu aplikasi Lingodeer. Aplikasi ini diterapkan untuk melatih bahasa Inggris siswa, lebih khusus untuk menambah kosa kata bahasa Inggris siswa, karena jika kita ingin mempelajari bahasa baru yang harus kita pelajari terlebih dahulu adalah kosakata dari bahasa tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kosakata siswa. Dengan menggunakan aplikasi Lingodeer di kelas VIII SMP Islam Malang. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain pre-experimental dengan one group pre-test and post-test. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa SMP Islam yang berjumlah 29 siswa. Sampel penelitian ini adalah kelas VIII yang terdiri dari 20 siswa. Peneliti ini menggunakan pilihan ganda sebagai instrumen penelitian. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian, diperoleh hasil bahwa penggunaan aplikasi Lingodeer efektif dalam meningkatkan kosa kata siswa. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan rata-rata skor post t-test. Skor rata-rata sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan (63,700) > (70,75) dengan nilai thitung lebih besar dari t-tabel 3,870 > 2,101. Peneliti berasumsi bahwa dengan menggunakan aplikasi Lingodeer dapat meningkatkan kosa kata siswa dan dapat menjadi teknik yang baik dalam mengajarkan kosa kata. Telepon, (0341) 323214 E-mail: [email protected] Abstract In the era globalization, technology has an important role in every sector of human life, including in the world of education so electronic based learning is no stranger to students. From the development of this era, teachers must follow the flow of this increasingly modern era, which must switch from conventional learning to electronic based learning. So in this study the researcher implemented an application that is very friendly to students, namely the Lingodeer application. This application is applied to train students’ English, more specifically to increase students’ English vocabulary, because if we want to learn new language what we have to learn first is the vocabulary of that language. This study aims to determine the increase in students' vocabulary. By using the Lingodeer application in the eighth grade of SMP Islam Malang. This study used a pre - experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. The population of this research is Islamic junior high school students which consist of 29 students. The sample of this research is class VIII which consists of 20 students. This researcher uses multiple choice as a research instrument. Based on the research findings, the results show that using the Lingodeer application is effective in increasing students' vocabulary. This is evidenced by the average post t- test score. The average score before and after treatment (63.700) > (70.75) with a t-test value greater than t-table 3,870 > 2,101. The researcher assumes that using the Lingodeer application can improve students' vocabulary and can be a good technique in teaching vocabulary. Keywords: Vocabulary, Lingodeer application

Perpustakaan Pusat IKIP Budi Utomo Malang Page 3 INTRIDUCTION Educating the nation's life is already a mission that must be realized, therefore this nation must create a quality education system, in order to compete in today's era of competition, where technology is developing so fast that the world of education continues to innovate, be productive and progressive towards better direction. The era of five point zero is a period of technological development that has given a complex influence, where digitalization has penetrated to civil society, with the meaning that the influence of digitalization also affects the world of education which triggers educational staff to develop following the flow of influence in educating the nation's life by continuing to make breakthroughs. or variations of teaching so that it is faster and easier to present teaching materials to students in the teaching and learning process. The use of innovative media is the right step in supporting learning activities, which can improve the quality of education in this nation. Sutirman (2013:15) says that the media is a component of learning resources or physical vehicles that contain instructional materials in the student environment that can stimulate students to learn. Therefore, teachers are guided to improve the quality of education, starting from improving the quality of learning in the classroom by using learning media as a support system in increasing student knowledge. The importance of the quantity of English is a special concern for teachers in improving students' English mastery. This problem then demands that teachers continue to innovate learning by presenting innovative media or learning models in order to have an interesting impact on students so that students are able to absorb subjects better. Meanwhile, we know that the importance of speaking English as referred to in the PERMEN No. 22 of 2006 concerning content standards which emphasizes that learning English in elementary schools is to develop limited verbal communication competence to accompany actions

As referred to in PERMEN No. 22 Year 2006, therefore students are required to master English and teachers are required to be more creative in providing knowledge of English to students in the teaching and learning process. Meanwhile, Zulfiqar (2011: 2), states that in learning English difficulties and obstacles sometimes occur. A common problem that often occurs is in terms of the alphabet, there are differences in writing and how to read a word based on the mention of the alphabet. The way of reading (spelling), the difference between writing and speaking in English is also one of the difficulties in learning English. In addition, some letters are sometimes not pronounced even though the letters are written down. Mastery of vocabulary is a special requirement in improving the quality of student learning, vocabulary is a learning component that must be mastered, the more students master the large number of vocabulary, the more flexible students' expressions will be in speaking The problem that occurs today is that students have difficulty in mastering English vocabulary. This is caused by the application of inadequate media in supporting the teaching and learning process of students. Vocabulary mastery is also a problem for eight grade students of SMP Islam Malang, therefore teachers of SMP Islam Malang are required to act innovatively, one of which is to use application-based learning media in the teaching and learning process in order to create effective and efficient learning. The application-based learning process in question is what the researchers want to do in this study, According to Azhar Arsyad (2006:29) based on technological developments, "learning media can be grouped into four groups, namely a). media resulting from print technology, b). media resulting from audio-visual technology, c). media resulting from computerbased technology, and d). media that is the result of a combination of print and computer technology.

The method of this study used preexperimental (one group pre-test posttest) research design. This design presented as follows: Where: X1: Pre-Test T : Treatment X2: Post-Test Treatment The VIII class is 20 students, this who is taught using Lingodeer application as media step in teaching vocabulary process in the class as follow: 1. Pre-test At the first meeting, the researcher explained the aims and objectives of the study and introduced the application of Lingodeer to the class. And then the researcher gave a pretest to find out their initial knowledge. 2. Teaching English vocabulary using the Lingodeer application as a learning medium. 3. Post-test At the end of the meeting, the researcher gave a post-test to determine the students' skills in the vocabulary learning process using Lingodeer application. The Defenittion of Lingodeer Application Olena O.Pavlenko et.al (2019) lingodeer is a foreign language learning application, with a choice of foreign languages accompanied by several levels that can be used to measure understanding and mastery of the foreign language being studied. For elementary level students, this application is very suitable to help understand the vocabulary of foreign languages such as English. The application started in September 2017 with an initial emphasis on East Asian languages but has since grown to include courses in multiple languages. According to Lingodeer, this Language learning application has garnered more than "10

Also, it seems that the lingodeer app has won the 2019 Google Play Editors' Choice Award and the Android Excellence Award. Wang Zhulong, a computer scientist and language instructor, who created the Lingodeer app. He previously built the popular Mandarin startup application, Chinese Skill, which raised $5 million. While Lingodeer isn't particularly unique (it's quite similar to Duolingo, Babbel, and Rosetta Stone), it stands out for its simplicity, comprehensive explanations, and straightforward functionality. In its use, Lingodeer emphasizes basic vocabulary, supported by interesting features provided such as animations and audio by native speakers that help users such as students to correct the level of correctness in pronouncing vocabulary, and repetition to ensure that users get the necessary repetition before continuing too fast. According to the International Journal of English Linguistic (2018) lingodeer is a free online language learning site, has a mission to help users learn languages while using their learning exercises to translate the web Language is learned through translation with, according to the developer, lingodeer application is as effective as any of the leading language learning software. For translating the web, machine translation is not quite good and, relying solely on professional translators, too expensive. lingodeer, we were told, offers a third way, with translation as a by-product of the language learner. Translation which, if as promised is almost as cheap as done by machine and almost as good when done by professionals Launched in June 2017. Lingodeer has developed at the time of writing 300,000 active language learners ready for the task. This research independently assesses the extent to which lingodeer, its current stage of development, meets these expectations. You could say this application is a game, but certainly not an entertainment game in general, games on lingodeer are closely related to education, especially in learning foreign languages. This application combines audio, visual elements as well as questions about the grammar of a language in a very fun way.

The table showed the significantly different of mean score of pretest and post-test. Before the treatment, the researcher conducted pre-test, the mean score was 1,179. After the treatment, the mean score was 1,412. It means that the progress happened after the Lingodeer application applied in teaching vocabulary. Hypothesis Testing In order to know whether the vocabulary ability in difference between the pre-test and post-test at the level of significance 0.05 with degrees of freedom (df) = n-2 (18), where n = number of subject (20 students). The value of t-table was 2,101. The t-test for independent sample was applied. The following table showed the results of ttest calculation:

It means that there was significant difference in students’ vocabulary ability between before and after treatment using Lingodeer application. Vocabulary achievement to the null hypothesis (Ho) stated that teaching vocabulary by Lingodeer application was not effective to improve students’ vocabulary and alternative hypothesis was rejected. (Ha) stated that teaching vocabulary by Lingodeer application was effective to improve the students’ vocabulary was accepted. Since the Lingodeer application was effective to improve students’ vocabulary, so the hypothesis proved in this research was alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. At the output, the significance value is 0.001 < 0.05. It can be said that there is an increase in the mean learning outcomes of students in the pre-test and post-test in the class using Lingodeer application. CONCLUSION The researcher found that applying Lingodeer application in the class, students’ vocabulary at the eighth grade of SMP Islam Malang could be improved. The researcher analyzed the data obtained from the students with one class of pre-test and post-test. The result proved that this method was effective to improve students’ vocabulary. The result of t-test showed that t-test value was higher than t-table value (3,847 >2.101). Therefore, it could be concluded that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It could be concluded that the use of Lingodeer application in improving vocabulary at the eighth grade of SMP Islam Malang was effective to improve students’ vocabulary.

Thus there is a significant influence. The use of the Lingodeer application is effective for increasing the vocabulary of class eighth students of SMP Islam Malang. SUGGESTION Based on the conclusion that had been written, the researcher would like to recommend some suggestion as follows: 1. English Teacher a. The teacher should know the students‟ difficulties in vocabulary b. The teacher should use Lingodeer application as interesting technique in teaching vocabulary. c. The teacher should be creative to create a new media and new method in teaching English. 2. For researcher a. The researcher should be more creative in creating media to teach and improve students’ vocabulary b. The researcher should be able to take the benefit of this research such as using this final project as a reference to do the research on vocabulary. c. The researcher should be able to develop the use of Lingodeer application in teaching English. In this research has not perfect yet, it is suggested for the future researchers to conduct further researchers in the same field, especially on using Lingodeer application technique in teaching vocabulary.
