I am poem

I am stubborn and ambitious
I wonder if I am even close to being good enough to make the basketball team
I hear the ball dribbling down the court
I see myself being tall even though i’m not
I want to get a growth spurt and be a good height to play
I am stubborn and ambitious
I pretend to be okay at basketball because I'm so bad
I feel annoyed
I touch the net in my dreams
I worry i’ll be like this forever
I cry when I realize i’ll never be good enough
I am stubborn and ambitious
I understand that basketball isn’t a good choice but I can’t quit
I say maybe I have a small chance at basketball
I dream of myself being with a team
I try to put on my game face and play the game with power
I hope I'm tall and good by tryouts
I am stubborn and ambitious

Look in the mirror poem

I look in the mirror and what do I see?
A helpful, artistic, kind person looking back at me.
I’m really good at running
I love to ride bike
I spend lots of time running around outside
I can’t wait for the bus ride.
I could improve my basketball skills
And math is hard for me
But I know if I try, i’ll be the best I can be.

Opposite poem

I love when it’s foggy outside
I dislike when me and someone in the hallway collide
I have lots of cats
I want a dog who doesn’t eat cats and lies on fluffy mats
My friends say I am fun
My family says I am the annoying one
One day I will run seven miles
I will never have a job placing floor tiles
My favorite foods are potatoes and meats
I will never eat spicy chicken or beets
I feel sad when make mistakes
I feel happy when I eat blueberry pancakes
I feel safe when my cat is on my bed at rest
I feel scared when I take a math test

6

Acrostic poem

Lovely leaf colors in the autumn
Every leaf is unique in it’s own way

Even small plants have leaves
Someday I'll plant trees and have lots of wonderful leaves

Sensory poem

Calm is green.
It sounds like the leaves swaying in the breeze on a saturday morning.
It tastes like freshly picked apples in a woven basket.
It smells like a bush of roses.
Calm feels like soft grass underneath your feet.

14

C ouplets poem

One day I wanted to climb a tree
Because I really wanted to see
When I climbed right up a tall tree
I looked up and out and what did I see?
I saw the grass, birds, and sky
It was a pretty sight way up high

Limerick poem

There was a teacher named Mrs.Fall,
Who got out a recess kickball
She lets the kids use it,
But all they do is sit
Mrs.Fall just had to say,
“I brought the ball out for you all to play!”

17

Mystery poem

I went outside and what did I find?
A box to open. I hope no one will mind.
It was tied on top in a bow of blue.
I wondered if this box was for me or for you.
I look inside the box... just a little peek.
I find a water bottle that’s starting to leak!

18

“I have a dream” poem

I have a dream that there would be no more sadness in the world
Hatred wouldn’t exist
A single word wouldn’t blow up your world
Very large tears wouldn’t crawl down your face
Everyone would forget that sadness was a thing
A dog wouldn’t whine sadly at your doorstep
Dark stormy nights wouldn’t remind you of the sad times
Raindrops wouldn’t remind you of crying
Enter a new life.You won’t be sad
A broken cookie wouldn’t remind you of your broken heart
Millions of people would have been saved without sadness
