RC DOLORES THEME SONG
Lyrics and texts by RTN Tex Lapuz
We’re the young men from Dolores.
We’re Rotarians straight and true.

Dedicated to the service;
Among ourselves and others too.
While we pledge our helping hands;

For a cause and noble stand.
Let Dolores roll its wheel;
With objectives to fulfill.

We are ready to help the needy.
For love of GOD and humanity.

Serve the country;
Serve the community;
And work in love and unity.
While we strive to do our best;
To fulfill the 4-way test,
That in spirit will be blessed;
ROTARY CLUB OF DOLORES!
THE MAN WHO LOST MONDAY
He played at his work on Rotary Day,
And thought, in the end, that it would pay.
He sharpened his pencil, and answered the phone.
He scolded a clerk, and felt quite alone,
Because, in his secret thoughts, he knew
Nothing was gained in that hour or two,
THE DAY THAT HE LOST MONDAY
He ate his lunch, but ate alone;
He lost a thought that would have grown.
To high resolves and nobles deeds,
That would help to meet the wide world’s needs,
And a visitors whom, to life’s long end,
He would have been glad to call a friend,
ON THE DAY THAT HE LOST MONDAY
When you are absent on a ROTARY DAY,
There are two loses, forever and aye:
You lost the time with friendly men,
You can never retrieve again;
And they lose you and your friendly smile.
No think and see if that’s worthwhile,
BEFORE YOU LOSE A MONDAY

SPEECH GOV BOBOY VALLES

“Contemporary society has some very wrong-headed ideas about what constitutes
success. Popular thinking holds that a person who went to Harvard is smarter and better
than someone who attended Ohio State; that a father who stays at home with his kids
is contributing less to society than a man who works at a Fortune 500 company; that
a woman with 200 Instagram followers must be less valuable than a woman with two
million.” This old fashioned definition of success enslave most of us. We work hard to
earn money and respect. We work hard to buy properties and prestige. According to Ms.
Smith, this is elitist.
I heard a story many times over, of a man who earned much in his life time and finally
died leaving the treasures to his beautiful wife. The wife later married the driver. So what
did the driver said afterwards, “I did not know that my boss was working for me”. Sya
ang nagmana.
Listen to this. According to Ms. Smith: “being a successful person isn’t about career
achievement or having the most toys. It’s about being a good, wise, and generous hu-
man being. Cultivating these qualities, the research showed, brings people a deep and
enduring sense of fulfillment, which in turn helps them to face setbacks with resilience
and meet death with peace. These are the criteria that we should be using to gauge our
own success in life and the success of others, especially our children.”
You see, in this study, being true Rotarian alone is already a success. Being generous and
being conscientious of the success of others is all that matters especially our children.
Furthermore, the study concludes that being successful can be redefined. Many of our
dreams will not come true. Does it mean that we are failure? It is not the definition of
failure either. Success and happiness come when we do quietly our work and making
sure that someone will mind them after we left this world. This is the key to leading and
meaningful life, according to Ms. Smith.
In our club, we do quitely our work and make sure that after we have served our office,
someone will take over our position and not cling to it. (Level 5 leadership according
to Jim Collins, Good to Great) This is the meaning of success. As I overstressed already,
invite the young, because they will make this Great Organization going for the next 100
years of doing good in the world. Rotarize our children and friends by our inspiring life.
This is the meaning of greatness and not the awards and laurels we get. As a Rotarian,
we are already there and prepared to embrace a very successful and meaningful life. Go
and make the difference.
Thank you, good evening and enjoy the rest of the evening.”

JOKES

“In a small town in America, a person decided to open up his bar business,

which was right opposite to a church. The church & its congregation started
a campaign to block the bar from opening with petitions and prayed daily
against his business.
Work progressed. However, when it was almost complete and was about to
open a few days later, a strong lightning struck the bar and it was burnt to the
ground.
The church folk were rather smug in their outlook after that, till The bar own-
er sued the church authorities for $2million on the grounds that the church
through its congregation & prayers was ultimately responsible For the demise
of his bar shop, either through direct or indirect actions or means.
In its reply to the court, the church vehemently denied all responsibility or any
connection that their prayers were reasons to the bar shop’s demise. In sup-
port of their claim they referred to the Benson study at Harvard that inter-ces-
sionary prayer had no impact!
As the case made its way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork and
at the hearing and commented: ‘I don’t know how I am going to decide this
case, but it appears from the paperwork, we have a bar owner who believes

”in the power of prayer and we have an entire church and its devotees that

doesn’t.
