Adjunct Certification Program
Reflection

Definition of a teacher is to employ methods that represent, the manner in which the
educator uses the material and resources available to produce or achieve desired educational
objectives and facilitate learning for all students whom you come in contact with.

As a teacher it is my responsibility to accommodate different learning styles. Getting clear
understanding of what the student’s goals are, helps me understand what my purpose is to each
individual student. Hearing the excitement in students’ voices about mastering skills that “made
a difference” in one’s life, or techniques that have transformed practices and perspectives is an
awesome feeling. I enjoy these as teaching successes, and make it my habit to reflect on their
origins, I can then recreate the conditions for their learning occurrence again, and again.

Taking the Adjunct Certification Program was very rewarding, I thought I was on the
right track in the way I instruct my class, but this program has taught me a lot of new and
exciting teaching techniques I should have been using in the class room. The value I have gained
from the program will last threw out my teaching career. Knowledgeable material was very
helpful in understanding the way different generations act in classroom settings. The Millennials
chapter was very new to me and learning about how they think was interesting. Like the readings
say, “Understanding the generation is the key to reaching and teaching them. “The insight I have
gained about the Bloom Taxonomy was very helpful in creating new exciting lesson plans for the
class. All of the different CATS, and how to use them within my lesson was rewarding, because I
was able to apply these lessons to my class. The students loved the new activity, and wanted
more. Incorporated into my class everyday are CATS, because this is a workforce program the

students love hands on assignments. Assessing skill in application and performance learned
through CATS, helps the students get a better understanding about the lesson. The technology is
used in many ways to engage the students in bored theory lessons and to give them a better
understanding of the material.

The Adjunct Certification Program gave me technology resources to use in the class
room, that is fun, exciting, and rewarding to the students I have already been using Pole
Everywhere to see what the students retained at the end of my lesson.

This program has made me a more effective teacher by showing me different teaching
strategies to reach all my students’ learning styles. I also learned better ways of engaging the
students, and keeping them focus on the lesson. I have learned the correct way to write a lesson
plan as it relates to Bloom Taxonomy activities and assessment. McKeachie’s Teaching Tips
readings was rewarding it taught me motivation, dealing with difficult students and what to do,
and grading is not the most important part. I was wrong. The three Ps are the most important,
Pre-Assessment, Participatory learning, and Post-Assessment in my opinion.

Overall this Adjunct Certification Program should be taken by any teacher, instructor, or
mentor who loves to teach and engage their students. I learned a lot of new teaching techniques,
and technology material to be used in and outside of the classroom, to help to students achieve
higher learning abilities. I will try to incorporate the five Rs in every lesson I teach, which is
Relevance, Rationale, Relaxed, Rapport, Research-based Methods; the five Rs are very
important tool in teaching, and engaging your students in 2017.
