awarded on a competitive basis according to clinical and
academic potential for future excellence.
The Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery Program is dedicated to the selection and neurosurgical treatment of
patients with movement disorders, pain, epilepsy and psychiatric disorders. These areas provide a unique opportunity for
understanding brain function and development of new techniques and technologies.

The candidate will be involved in the following activities :
Clinical activities
Participation to multidisciplinary meetings on preoperative selection and assessment of the patients as well as
monthly video-conferences on case presentations
Participation to stereotactic and functional neurosurgical procedures (DBS, MCS, PNS, SCS, intrathecal
pumps) including microelectrode recordings and intraoperative micro-stimulation
Participation to the postoperative management and follow-up of the patients
Interaction with the other specialties (neurologists, neurophysiologists, neuropsychologists, psychiatrists and
basic scientists.in the daily activities related to stereotactic and functional neurosurgery
Research activities
Participation to research projects related to stereotactic and functional neurosurgery
Writing and publishing papers in peer reviewed journals
Attendance and presentation to national and international meetings and congresses
Interaction with the different partners involved in research projects
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of the fellowship, the Fellow should be able to:
Understand anatomic and physiologic substrates of movement disorders, pain, psychiatric disorders and
epilepsy
Select patients for surgery
Evaluate the benefits and risks of Deep Brain Stimulation, Motor Cortex Stimulation and Spinal Cord
Stimulation
Assess the role of microelectrode recording in movement disorder and pain surgery
Recognize the different patterns of neural activity in the basal ganglia/thalamus/cortex
Participate in clinical and research rounds
Formulate a research project
Write and publish research and or clinical manuscripts
Present scientific work at meetings.

Profile of the candidate
Previous training in general neurosurgery with interest in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery
Previous publication(s) as first author in peer reviewed journals or a PhD are appreciated
English language fluently spoken and well written
German language (preferable) or French language or Italian language
Retribution
Annual salary: CHF 50000 + ~15% of social retributions
